Some routers and modems don't handle large amounts of network traffic in a small amount of time. If you have com_fixedTic set to 1 the game will run as fast as it absolutely can, and suddenly your router will be overloaded with network data.
To make sure that this doesn't happen, do the following:
From the main menu:
Open the console by pressing Ctrl+Alt+~
Enter the following: "seta com_fixedTic 0" without the quotation marks and press Enter
Press Escape to close the console
The server browser should now update fully, without causing your network connection to drop or misbehave."
