I don't want to open a new thread, so I going to use this one.
5% to 8% (depending on the study) of the men and 0.5% of the women of the world are born colorblind.
A lots of players have encountered problem in Quake4 to distinguish between own m8s and the enemy.
Wonder if SplashD are going to avoid this big issue [8% of the gamers is a big number] As a side effect of this the team killing could be huge.

You must be blind if you wouldn't be able to see the difference between Strogg and GDF. Ive read that the strogg are like 1.5x the size of a human.

Good post xrat3d.
I am sure they are thinking about this problem. And they are still in beta so they are probably still tweaking this. I had an uncle who was colourblind (red/green) and he couln't pick smultron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodland_Strawberry), a kind of wild wood strawberries (that almost every person in Scandinavia picks at least once during childhood). The objects (berries and leaves) blended and it was not possible for him to see them from a distance of 1 meter or more.

End of anecdote.

Go SD!

God damn, thats a high percentage for men. Mind you my lecturers colour blind. :p

Its not a bad idea. But as GENETX said the shape of the Strogg and GDF are vastly different as are the vehicle designs so it shouldn't be to hard from going to shapes instead of colour, may take some getting use to but yeah.

Be interesting to hear from someone who is colour blind.. how they prevent TKing ... BF2 would of sucked (and does) :p

And yes, Splash Damage rocks the jocks of many

Also, I read a while ago that the Strogg move in a scary predator style, and the GDF move like you would expect a real soldier to move (Carefully and controlled). This should make it better than just colours, as it all adds up.

actally every colorblind doesn't play games, most of them dont( i guess) but OT: yeh, SD rocks, time passes fast and i can remember like january was yesterday but now its the second week of may and the game is very near, just hoping it will be 160% what i expected(and it is).

I personally know that it was a large number who settled for Q3 where you could use forced colors and skins instead for playing Q4 CTF [when it was released for the first time].
I am one of them.

Most non-colorblind people will never play ET:QW either.

If 8% of the male population is color blind, then it can quite safely be assumed that 8% of the players in any specific game are also color blind - unless the use of color in the game makes it unplayable for this group.

The group certainly is bigger than the number of people in e.g. Italy who will only buy the game if there is a localized version (which there will be afaik), so yes, this is something that should be considered.

I'm one of the 8% by the way (red/green deficiency). Separating friend and foe has never been a big problem in RtCW or ET, but I do think I have a harder time spotting distant, stationary players (depending on the background) than other people since my vision depends more on movement.

Hitsounds are a big help when I apply my "shoot everything that moves" tactic. ;)

They said you can change the colour of your teammate/enemy names. Default is green/red, as we all know.

does the size difference in strogg make them an easier target?

which means that for proper balance the game should be run in stopwatch mode

Not really. If player models are of different size then that's the way the game is being balanced for campaign mode. Remember that other things are asymmetric as well (e.g. weapons/vehicles).

(Of course it can be argued that SW is the only game mode that has "proper" balance, but then size doesn't matter. ;) )
