What makes this game so amazing is the fact that there will deployables giving real support to troops in battle like a real one. It's not like BF2 where they are stuck on the ground at the same place all the time. They can be hacked, destroyed, moved. It makes this game so amazing, I can't wait to play around with the Hammer Missle Launcher, it looks like it's going to be fun!!! ;)

Yeah. I agree. I love the fact that artillery has an RTS element to it now.

Yah, the deployables are definitely something I'm looking forward too. I always enjoyed playing the Engineer class in TFC and Q3F so I could deploy my sentry gun in strategic locations. To me it's a lot of fun trying to find the best place the place the sentry gun and rack up the kills. :)

i will have just as much fun searching them out and messing with them as a covert ops :-)

I am in the same boat with you guys. I am a BF2142 player, and I think this is going to slaughter it. No disrespect to BF I love it. Anyway, this is going to be a sweet as hell to play Enemy Territory.:D

Deployables remind me alot of Tribes, one of my favorite games ever. The placing of turrets and mines became an art form and a mini-game in itself. They definately add to game play and can make a map feel different each time you play it.

Couldn't agree more. Going from what we've seen in the videos it'll add a lot to the game.

Really adds a dimension to clan matches, being able to deploy them in different locations will make for some interesting strats for clans, me thinks

While I agree, I have a feeling that there will just be limited area available to deploy resources. I hope I am wrong but from the training videos it looks like it is still limited.

Again, I hope I am wrong.

It will be a whole new type of gameplay. I can't wait to see how it works out.

same with you guys i love the idea of deployables. Going to be a sick game i can't wait for it.

I would think it's not that bad would it be limited to certain area's. Just think of what could happen if you place an anti-personnel turret next an enemy spawn. End result is probably getting +20 n00bs killed.

Yes, deployables will be a major factor in this game. I wonder if there will be a restriction/limit to the amount of each type of deployable available per team.

Say for example, if every member of the team chose to place one huge artillery each.. that's a lot of artilleries.. :) I guess that is solved, as people said before, by the fact that there probably won't be enough room for them all.

Kamikazee

Also, can't deployables only be placed by select classes?

In UT Fortress, turrets could only be placed by one class if I'm not mistaken.

engineer, fieldopts and covert ops can only deploy deployables, and the strogg ones too.

ChrisJSY
05-04-2007, 12:44 PM
I'm really stuck between Fieldops and Engineer, I know I can play both but in a clan/specialising in something I myself need to decide.

In one hand you have a someone that can build/repair and make turrets for anti personal/rocket and...vehicles.

I need to know what rockets it can shoot down, player, arty? and vehicles, does it include air? ;o Mines.

Then you have FOps that can call in the Artly, missles and hammer.

Offence/Defence kinda thingy going on..

But in Wolf/bf2/2142/tfc I played medic all the time but it really seems boring now , aaahh! :)

I hope that the deplayables won't be too good. It would ruin he game if you could put an anti personnel gun on one side of a bridge and there was no way for infantry to get through. But if they are balanced I think I will enjoy them very much.

It will bring up clan matches to whole new level.

I hope we don't end up with half the team sitting in artillery turrets.
What would be cool is if you could immediately see what kit everyone was using, and decide what to use based on that.
Also, I won't be happy if there is a constant stream of mortar shells raining down on my tank. That would be annoying.

Excellent post, I agree 100%. Cool that you can even man the deployable and fire it yourself or have it on auto!! sweet.

I am sure that the number of deployables set by either side will be limited in number and location, similiar to wolf ET when there were too many airstrikes called at the same time you had to wait.

I can't wait either. I really want to play as Medic to see what they mean by being able to call in supplies. Because by supplies i imagine ammo but the field ops already takes care of that so i don't know if it mean health. You know like if i cant get to a buddy quick enough i send that to them. That would be cool.

Deployables will be intresting to see how its going to be used, and how effective it is.

What I like about the deployables its like Tribes And Tribes2. Which will turn me back into a turret farmer. ( Defense Player ). I love playing Defense. So ill be playing on the Strogg Side and will be play'n the Constructor Class.

Can wait to kick some GDF ASS!! muhahahaha :D

This sort of gameplay element is the exact same reason why W:ET is still as awesome as every - there is so much variety in the game, so how could you ever get bored? All those classes, vehicles, weapons, strategies and now deployables... I cant wait

They removed the possiblity to guide the turrets manually. They said it would unbalance the game too much or something similar. I can't remember where I read it though.

Actually they changed that. You can't do that anymore. Sorry but i guess it was for the better. I think they chnged it because the closed beta testers found a way to exploit it and it doesnt make sence that a soldier in 60 years will have to do this manually. Lol we already got computers doing that why wouldn't they have even more advanced computers in 60 years?

There is a tiny tiny problem with being able to deploy your own weapons, Over time people will see potential spots where it's most effective thus making it a Hot spot for deploying turrets 'n such.

It would be almost as bad as an already deployed Turret like BF2 for example.

But that may take months ;)

But it can happen.

Zarkow
05-05-2007, 01:50 AM
Well, as soon as those hotspots appear, the other sides art-deployables will have auto-places to shoot at when no other targets of opportunity appear...

I'm more consearned with 'pixelaiming'-related problems here, i.e. setting up deployables and shooting at pos you know is a god location, even though it's far away and you cannot see it. However, here ET:QW, as I understand it, have solved it by removing ability to manually fire the deployables and you have to call down fire, i.e. have to see your target-locations.

Mr_Meow
05-05-2007, 01:54 AM
That's true, There probably be ways to counter these placements.

But it still wont stop people abusing these possitions in future time, And going by most games i've played it doesnt take long for people to find things to gain an advantage and use it as much as possible.

I hope the Dev's have got a secret weapon to counter that :)

its all good i cant wait to see how the auto turrets will work its kind of annoying sitting around in a turret.

the endless possiblity for tactics is frying my brain....
i think the best tactics will always be common sense and teamwork.

Mr_Meow

Let's hope people use Teamwork on huge Public servers instead of trying to act like the brave "John Rambo" :P

Indeed I think the deployables will be a fun factor of this title. I hope they are not to strong yet strong enough. Pretty sure this will be one of the many balancing issues being looked during testing. Indeed these all should prove interesting and fun to learn how to deploy as well as combat.

The deployables seem kind of intimidating. I hope I can get a handle on them.

Ghost_Operative
05-05-2007, 03:26 AM
i think deployables are great, they finally give covert ops something to do lol...its going to suck tho if you blow it up/hack it and they repair/replace it right away :-/, kinda like BF2...you blow it up, they drop supply crate

Rofl, killed by falling metal from the sky.

A damn shame the turrets is going to be auto, but i guess its for the best.

lol i remember a dude randomly died infront of me in BF2. it was hilarious. just a engineer running down the street then... bam a box falls on his head and squashes him, i cant wait to try to do that to ppl in this game

You can man the turrets from both GDF and Strogg, or set them to auto.

No, it's auto, they took the manual away cause of balance issues, it's written a few post up.

Thank god you have to drop them close to your current position. Wouldn't like to get an anti-personell turret droped on me as a turret bomb from a guy two miles away.

It should be interesting to see the stratagys used for these, possilby artillary being the main way to destroy them so fields ops might be in a league of their own.

im sure i read somewhere thast deployables can only be deployed in a area under your control, so say after you have taken an objective you will have a radious in which to deploy it.

Noo! Dont be silly!

We need our deployable weapons so we can run around like headless chicken while our computer operated weapons can do our job! :)
