Did you know that having x amount of icons on your desktop actually eats your systems resources.

Personally i would have no icons on the desktop and instead use the quick launch bar.

I would prefer that you guys post thumbnails that link to the full image. You can also use the file attachment option for this kind of stuff. This will automatically generate and display a thumbnail linking to the full image, as demonstrated here with my extremely sexy desktop.

We do have filesize limit in place for this, which is currently 200KB for jpg and png files.
