I'm interested to know what type of maps you would like and hope that map makers create for this game.
For example would you want a run down city scape with lots of street fighting. Or something involving a pyramid, a jungle fight or even a battle through a theme park, maybe an attack on a castle or down a snowy mountain.
I'm thinking more of the theme and not layout and objective, though an objective could tie in with the theme.
I'm sure there are some great ideas around. With any luck someone might take the idea and create a map, and you have the map you want.
I don't expect map makers to divulge thier ideas but players who would like thier ideas picked up.
C'mon let's get those creative juices flowing.

Well, I usually like urban city maps a lot, but they're generally very hard to make. Also, a dense city environment might not work all too well with ET:QW, since it's got vehicles and all. Flying around would be kinda hard.
cs_backalley is one of my favourite CS maps.

I would like an open map with a small town in it, wich gives alot of infantry fighting, outside the battle rages on with Air units, tanks, APCs, ect. Gives a nice feeling to the map.

I dislike spam maps that are infantry focused. I have no doubt they will be in there just like BF2 and BF2142 but if I want to play a small map infantry focused then I'll go to the best game that does that in cs:s or something like that. I want open maps, lots of alternate routes and vehicles. I don't demand vehicle spam maps but I want a nice balance of foot and vehicle work.
I really hope there will be maps from W:ET, adapted for ET:QW playstyle.

I would like to see some close quarters infantry maps. I enjoy vehicles and spread out combat but some F.E.A.R style close quarters would just be awesome.

I dislike spam maps that are infantry focused. I have no doubt they will be in there just like BF2 and BF2142 but if I want to play a small map infantry focused then I'll go to the best game that does that in cs:s or something like that. I want open maps, lots of alternate routes and vehicles. I don't demand vehicle spam maps but I want a nice balance of foot and vehicle work.
I'm affraid for you that ET:QW is much more infantry based, and I hope infantry combat in ET:QW wuill be better than that of CSS..
/me wants supply ET:QW style, larger bunkers and world but same structure

Really good idea Mr Wazz, I like that idea of a town under siege, maybe surrounded. Maybe even many different spawn

Here are my idea's of a map:
-Castle Assault
-Giant Warehouse with plenty of boxes, machinery ect
-Inside a school (cafeteria, Gym with big mattresses set up ect)
-Inside a big house. (we aren't very small though, Same size as normal humans in normal house)
-Underground tunnels
-Streets (just streets, a few buildings and all that but nothing to go inside of)
-Sewer system (Dark, a few lights, water running between side passages ect)
-High mountains (Mt Everest, Mt Fuji)
-5 Islands separated by water but attached by bridges. (1 objective per island)
-2 Big separate islands by water With just Attack Choppers on them. (Just for chopper fighting)
-A dense rain forest like The Amazon
-A town that was under siege being taken back by GDF (Burning Buildings, fires scattered around, busted buildings and cars. ect)
Thats all i can think of now. You can use any of those, you have my permission.

Baserace would be good if some so-called admins did not set timer to ridiculous values. 30 minutes and carry on, damn it!!!
I would like to see maps based on existing terrain and landmarks.... lets say a strogg assault on something like the pentagon.. or central london...

Omfg a D-day map is a MUST! No team game should be without it. Stroggs will attack and GDF should defend.
i guess at the beginning there will be lots of open area maps, with close places for infantery only. Surely, vehicles (or part of them) same as deployables will be removed from some competitions' config and prolly after having a look towards the de infantery combat, there will be more urban style maps.
As u could see in W:ET, at the beginning the maps were all open areas like radar, fueldump, oasis and less smth like goldrush, but not at all like the classic 3on3 maps (base,ice,b4...). In other hand this is kinda obvious at the beginning, because i supose they'll want to let the ppl test all game features in the 1st maps, vehicles,deployables, and the open combat stuff..

Hum, i guess i have to much imagination ^^
Kind of expanding onto the small town inside of an open area idea I would really like a longish map that was narrow with a road that leads from one end to another with various outposts along the way with varying sizes. of course the road could fork here and there and maybe there could be a lake or river cutting it laterally.
Another one that might be neat would be a spiraling mountain with one team obviously at the base and trying to work it's way up. Or maybe since defense is generally easier the offensive team could start at the top and work its way down to even out the playing field. There might be way too much grenade spam with this sort of map though. =S
I'm looking forward to some of the maps that have underground areas or building assaults, though, as I've been playing too much bf lately and I miss indoor fighting scenarios. Titan mode is a poor poor substitute.

Strange no ones considerd water maps.
For instance a tanker, oil rig. Fly troops in and then close combat fighting.
A beach head map sounds nice, but if the attackers were GDF then they could use the boats to storm the beach.
Nice ideas JiggaJigga, very diverse. An island map sounds cool.
Maybe even a combination of these ideas.
A beach head attack on an island and then move through the jungle to
attack ancient temple.

At the moment I'm thinking about large industrial complex and vast forest of spruce and pine trees and also lots of small lakes and concrete bunkers.

just NO open maps like battlefield where you spend more time walking across a practical grass field then gaming, that sucked really bad.
In fact, just don't do anything like battlefield and this game will be a success :P

Haha i agree with you, just it always seems to be the pinnacle game for making perfect examples of what not to do in games, other then online multiplayer.

Battle in gigantic spaceship which has lost control and is flying towards the earth, infantry only, GDF need to enable self destruct by hacking into the computer in the mainstream room, entering a code into the bridge and engineering computers, and get into escape pods. too much startrek like :(

Maybe as a gdf first line of defence.
Strogg dock too attack inside. Would make for some interesting
design. Maybe some Q4 mappers could make a good one like this.

I was wondering about forest maps, but I noticed that
the nearer we get to release that screenshots seem to
show less and less trees. Early shots would show dense forested
areas. Have the trees had to go to save on performance and
how much of an impact do they make.

I like a lot of the ideas mentioned, I really like the idea of a battle on a Strogg ship in space, perhaps the battle starts on the ground, and the GDF must hack Strogg teleporters, or somehow hijack strogg transport in order to board the ship.
Some kind of swamp enviroment, perhaps a strogg attack on a hidden GDF complex, swampy swampy.

Driving into the shores of the islands and clearing out the strogg on each one.

In contrast to the synthetic world of both Man and Strogg, i'd like to see some Forest maps, or like Blodtang mention a Swamp. No glacial maps though, 2142 provided enough glacial maps to last a lifetime.
While i dont mind vehicle maps, i prefer to play infantry based maps. Maybe some maps that are focused mostly inside complex'. Or maps that focus around ruins, which leaves for plenty of creativity in the use of vantage points and ambushes.

Open map with fox holes on an open hill'ish map for the GDF, defending a bunker that must be blown up by the strogg. a small forest to cover the Strogg spawns down the hill. (Got the idea from the first CoD:OU American Singleplayer map)

Just one idea for now, for any community map-makers. This would be some variation or creatively designed map involving this basic theme:
GDF Naval Yard (or Seaport):
GDF are protecting some sort of cargo-based ship or perhaps a naval yard with a capital ship docked there (aircraft carrier, likely for best effect). The Strogg would be coming down from the borderlands (they could be forest, foothills of a mountain, through a valley) to complete their objectives.
The layout would offer a mix of limited ground armor, plenty of air units (if its an aircraft carrier -- and Strogg would have matching aerial unit spawns), moderate naval/amphibious units, and a focus on infantry when the ship is breached. Eventually the outside battle carries onwards inside the ship, while Strogg may wish to continually hound the topside runway of the carrier to keep GDF's air support grounded.
Objectives of which (for Strogg; GDF would have to counter this with parallel story structure, in tune to defensive measures):
1) Jam a borderlands' telecommunications dish.
"Strogg must take appropriate countermeasures against the GDF communications network and disable any chance for the GDF to alert reinforcements of any nearby fleets."
2) Breach the front naval yard gates.
"Strogg must push closer to the naval yard's defenses and deploy a forward choke point to make a push into the ship."
3) Disable the boat's nuclear reactor core.
This capital ship serves as GDF aerial dominance in the region and must not be allowed to escape and conduct a future attack on the Markon's advancing forces -- the ship must not be allowed to retreat, disable its locomotion"
4) Implant a Strogg virus into the boat's targeting, defense and navigation computers.
"The ship's natural defenses are far and numerous, to minimize Strogg casualities in disabling the ship, loopholes in the computer mainframe should be utilized. GDF's defenses are susceptible to superior computer-related vunerabilities - infect their navigation and defense grids to sway favor to the Strogg."
5) Capture the main control room at the helm of the ship.
The regional overlord of the Strogg will wish to board the ship to survey the prized capture. Capture the high-command of the ship in the control room and await further orders. Without their leadership, GDF will be crippled allowing for Strogg commanders to take this region from their power."

Seconded! Balanced, fun, and NEW maps with 15 min timelimits. Not just remakes of old nameyourfavoritegame maps. I love custom maps, but they have to be balanced to be fun. If SD is considering adding good customs to RANKED servers, I hope they post some advice/guidelines about how to approach making balanced maps soon after releasing the SDK. I'd like to see the custom quality bar high right out of the gate..

Yes I would definitely love to see some sort of space w/ capital ship map, like Unstoppable suggested. Tho I don't know would it look good in this setting since the textures and models don't really fit well into a space setting.
Also, we definitely need a D-day type map! A massive Strogg invasion that GDF have to defend from -> pwnage

Considering MP Beach is the greatest map ever, I hope some awesome map maker comes along and does a nice conversion to make it QWs friendly.

We could never get rid of beach, but we would probably have to make it a tad bit larger to have room for the vehicles. Maybe even "future" up the beach itself.

Definitely. As long as it worked and looked somewhat like classic Beach, I think a lot of people would get a kick out of it. A war room would be a must.

I want some huge maps like Daybreak or Egypt withs tons of objectives. In ET they were full of spam/snipers, but they would be perfect in etqw.

Well... You are not allowed to port an official map without explicit permission from Activision.
Also think of how the map would work with ET:QW gameplay mechanics, a lot of things have changed since RtCW.

- A little map in a city with high houses and windows
- A normal map in the desert with a heavy sand storm

I was thinking about an abondoned harbor/docks/industrial complex map ...by moonlight :)
(first i tought about the final objective to be a big boot too ..but that may include a lot of custom modeling,i see others may do this already )
So i would make it some abandoned small industrial complex with some sort off half dried out dock splitting the complex in 2 :
-some water to deep to walk and some not, some sandbanks etc,maybe some landvehicle traversable dried out area
-steep dock wall, and some ramps here and there that'll let you acces the dock easy
-around the dock lot's of metal constructions like a crane,some metal walkways up in the air,silos with ladders,containers,hangars,buildings ...
Strogg would be attacking a secret gdf transmission base or something,outsides it looks abondoned,insides it's a base.The poor gdf tought they'd draw no attention in this remote complex looking innocent from a mile away.But he who looks close sees:
-huge and high metal fences scattered trough and around complex,electrified with 25v..to scare large animals like bears and hurt strogg(they can't stand bumpin into voltages wich make them go gaga...hence some bords hanging around the fence,beware off strogg,image off strogg soldier on a leash..gdf humor)
-gen building creating disturbing magn field for strogg
-some buildings are defense bunkers
....Strogg build quick camp outside.GDF base is inside large hanger wich hides vehicles.First objectives could be:
-strogg invade complex perimeter, soldier blews up some fences and cov ops disables the field generator after ...
-further capture some forward spawn inside docks
-move to insides and disable transmitter
...Setting,maybe Canada, maybe an old timber harbor,woodworks mill complex.
First halve could be a bit more open:
-slightly bushy with some slight hills and rocks
-a central acces road (lit well by moonlight)
-alternate pads (more in the shades )
Second halve more tight around the docks:
-with scattered out extra lights and some dark spots for tactical use
-final indoors objective
In a way this map could be comparable to a town siege that starts around town outskirts and moves into town like mentioned before
(if it would be to hard at night,we'll then just cloudy daytime or evening,or full moon bright night)

here's my "Rail Dump" idea.
It's a duel Objective - for now.
Green Circle = GDF Base
Red Circle = Strogg Base
Orange Circles = Capturable Spawn
Generator (can be destroyed) - Once the GDF repair the Generator it becomes the GDF forward spawn. If the generator is destroyed the forward spawn becomes inactive for GDF.
GDF -
Repair Generator to move train & close security doors at Fuel Depot.
Move Train to Fuel Depot & Transfer fuel to tanker on train. (doors will automagically open once train is en route)
Stop Strogg from destroying Fuel Deopt
Strogg -
Stop GDF from building Generator or Destroy Generator (security doors will open)
Stop GDF from moving Train
Destroy Fuel Depot

An old idea I had that was duel objective was a twist on baserace.
Where you would steal parts from the other teams area to build a huge, and I mean really big gun.
Once it was contructed, press a button possibly halfway across the map to the right, so as to give the losing team a last chance to recover.
Gun fires, big explosion, opposing teams base is flattened, end game.

There's so much you could do with a base race type map, especially if you have transportation.

I liked mp_beach (of course) but also mp_assault from RTCW... I loved playing that map in clan wars. I'll try to make a QW version (not a direct port) of mp_assault, or make a somewhat similar map if nobody else does.

Haha mp_beach would be awesome, especially with the ability to use platypuses and APCs to assault.

I'm certain we'll see a beach assault map simular to rtcw's one..but with qw measures..gdf attacking(they have the boats and apc's) some strogg fort along coast :)
some nice other ideas i read here :)
-mountan siege..concur your way upwards a mountan,maybe a huge bridge spanning a deep cliff in the middle

(rtcw tram could be fun too..with an old skilift in a mountan pass ,makes me think of 'where eagles dare' movie)

Another idea I had for a map a while back was a NYC map. Grid style with multiple objectives that take you around a city.
For example. You start on the streets, move to the subway system (metro) then emerge in another area of the city. It would be rather complex and Id guess the minimun time for that type of map would be 45 minutes.
GDF need to attack (strogg defend), then strogg attack (GDF defends) etc etc. If the objective is not completed then it's over. Not exactly duel obj. Kinda like Temple.

I hope there are maps made that don't just move a -> b -> c but keep alive all the map area and move back on themselves. Makes for a much more interesting scenario.

Its like, if you don't hack the computer in X minutes. The door shuts, you need to retreat, then go to next obj and try again.
The scripting to it is gonna be a PITA.

I'd like to see re-capturable objectives...
IE: Generator gets destroyed....
If enemy team has engy's to repair it then it becomes the first objective again.

Yeah, I like recapturable objectives too (and recapturable spawns but it seems they aren't available in ETQW). I'm definitely going to use them in my maps.

Can you have 2 capturable objectives in the same area? e.g. if 1 is active the other is deemed inactive and if the inactive becomes active, a script will deactivet the other.
I hope thats not too confusing.

A map with a bunch of ramps and fun things to drive Huskies and other vehicles off of. It could also have a place to race cars and stuff. And also a huge freakin' cliff you can just drive off of for fun and die.
Then we can bring TJ back into ET with some Trickjumping maps, like from Original Maps (I have a few TJ's I have found in Sewer) and it would be great - no adren needed! You always have infinite sprint!

Working map title: Retaliation
Story: Searching for new ways to get rid of Stroggs, the GDF started research on biological warfare. Because of the makeup of the Stroggs, it became apparent there wasn't much of anything that could be done in that regard. That was until researchers found, quite by accident, an activated gene in a very low percentage of the population that was wrecking havoc in the assimilation process, ie: making very weak stroyent. Further studies need to be done to alter said gene so Earth stroyent would be unusable for Stroggs, rendering the invasion unwanted.
Of course, this also could mean the retaliation from Stroggos and provoque the mass murdering of Earth population. Still, the GDF pursues the research hoping it would lead to even more devastating results or new discoveries.
Following the initial discovery, GDF made exhaustive tests of the population to find those with the gene. Those found were moved in an underground facility and are to be protected at all costs.
Through unknown means, Stroggs got wind of those plans and are now in the GDF's research facility's backyard, planning a raid to destroy the research and the human population harbored in the underground bunker.
GDF Main Objectives: Protect the research data and the human population hidden in the facility.
GDF Secondary Objectives: TBD
Stroggs Main Objectives: Destroy the research data and gene carriers at all costs.
Stroggs Secondary Objectives: TBD
