First of all you need to read:
http://4newbies.planetwolfenstein.gamespy.com/ETQW/
and/or the Advanced Player Guide which is found under start - ID_games...... etc (in Windows)

Then play vs computer with zero players on both sides, and do the objectives all by yourself (remember there are 12 maps, but start out with e.g. those 3 in the North American campaign).

Finally read these forums (search etc.) and play online, and learn by experience.

:)

One other thing, during playing against computer, setup and learn your keyboard setup. You need to use many keys, and may change some of the default setups.

Use "m" to cicle through missions available to you and try to complete them. Don't be afraid to use the tools (deploy, hack, repair, whatever) you carry - ETQW is not only about shooting people.

Go get in the BumbleBee as fast as you can, and kill as many Strogg with it. You'll own everything alive, it's true!

Except if you fly like Voltage...whats your in game name again, Voltage?

Other thing to do is watch videos of other people playing and see what they do that is successful.

For example here is how the Bumblebee can be used effectively:
