Will we be able to add a tag or prefix to our username? I wanted to know before I pre-registered mine. If not, I will add my clan tag to the name I register.

Thanks

I was wondering this myself...

I would imagine there will be a clan prefix text box on the sign in screen.

I would think so, be kind of silly not to include that because they know this will be a team based game. Thats why they're having/had a clan based beta.

yah, i do agree with deepsix, if this game is all about teamplay and such.. it would be a poor job not to have such an ability in the game..

I have always been of the opinion that Tribes 2 had the best built-in community feature set of any game I have ever played.

If you never played Tribes, every player had their own unique player account. Because this account was unique to each player, it made a lot of really cool features possible. For instance, probably my favorite feature was the clan stuff. When you wanted to join a clan or a clan wanted you to join, you would actually receive an invite to join the clan. Once accepted, your user account was added to the clan's account and you were, therefore, an official member of that clan. This helped because, since every account was unique, you didn't have a lot of morons "name stealing" or pretending to be in a clan just by putting a tag in front of their name. With the Tribes tags, it was a bright yellow tag in front of a player's name which could only be edited by the leaders of the clan.

It was a really really well designed community feature set that had a lot more cool features that I won't get into, and from what I saw, worked really well. I am very hopeful that ETQW will have at least something close to what Tribes 2 had, since it was such a cool community, partly due to the features built right into the game.

I think you should pay extra for clan tags

:D

btw, I agree, these smileys aren't up to the usual high standards

I haven't personally seen this as a big issue in W:ET.

I haven't really either, but IMHO its always nice to have things like clan tags actually mean something, as opposed to just a few characters that anyone can randomly post in front of their name. Gives it a more "official" feel, I guess.

I agree. Just about anyone is capable of putting some letters or symbols infront of their names to make themselves look cool. This way, people would know that you're from your clan, and it's not just a bunch of letters there to make your name look better.

Who are you to say what I can have in my username?

I preordered to register my name and it was already taken.

And it's not like I have a common name :S

I never said anything about limiting what someone can or cannot have in their username. I just think that a clan tag should be more than just an arbritrary set of characters that anyone can put in front of their name, that's all. That's just my opinion though. We'll all just have to wait and see how SD handles it come release day.

That sucks. Sorry mate, I feel for you.

Say you don't but you do =]

If you want a reputation from your clan tag play wars & earn it, easy enough - but it'll only ever be an arbitrary set of characters.

As far as the username thing is concerned, no, I really don't mind whatever people want to have in it.

As for the arbitrariness of a clan tag, yeah, I guess you are right, they will pretty much always be arbitrary, but I do plan on competing with a clan for ETQW...that is, just as soon as I find a good, competetive clan to join. :p

Original on PQW.net (http://www.planetquakewars.net/content.php?content.49)

PQW.net: The stuff with the registration of the Nicknames is not really clear for me. how does it work exactly? How does it work for clanplayers which are switching between different clans?

Locki: You can create a Clan where you can invite other players to join you. You as the owner of the Clan can promote or kick peoples, you can set-up the Clantag. This menas that you registered username is independent from your clantag. when you join a clan you will be directly linked with your clantag. The good thing is that you always can be sure that a guy which is called Locki is me! :-P No other player can choose this name to fake.

that's what we know so far.

Will we be able to change the colours of our pre-selected name too?

The same system is used in Quake 4 multiplayer (except you can change your name as many times as you want), and it works really well. On the scoreboard, one of the columns is for name, and there is another column for clan tag. You can change the color of both your name and clan tag in Q4 but I am not sure how it will work in ETQW, obviously :D Can't wait to find out though!

Awesome.. Now all you got to do is figure out how to let us implement custom textures onto our names and clan tags.... :D Just kidding of course. Great to hear name color made it into ETQW!

I heard that there is clan support built in, so I'm guessing they'd go the way of a tag prefix amended to your normal nick

They'd better! Pink looks so much better on my name than any other color... for some reason.

And I do hope they implement some kind of clan system like that... Because tha'd be cool, lol.

I lead a clan of over 500 members, competing in perhaps 15-20 competitions. We have been using the same tag for over 5 years now. I'm quite concerned that someone else (from another part of the world, completely innocently) will register that tag before I do.

Tag "registration" seems to invite the sort of issues that spring up around domain name conflicts.

Well, let's say the clan wants to be named "nick.clan" or "nick|clan" - how would this work? Impossible without making a new account? Why not just have a login name and a display name. You can change the display name whenever you want, but you can't "fakenick" because if people look you up they will get your login name.
