View Full Version : Directing AVT fire.

Has anyone parked a vehicle somewhere, let's say on outskirts, you park a titan near an avt, but just behind a hill so that part of the vehicle can be "seen" by the avt, but part of it is protected by the hill, then the AVT fires at your parked titan, but hitting the hill instead, thus diverting attention away from the MCP?
I tried that for a while, but it didn't really work because my tank got destroyed.
So you could actually drive your MCP through working strogg AVTs as long as you have vehicles parked in such a way so that the AVT could see it and start firing at it, but it is behind some cover so that the missle can't really hit it.

works only against really dumb teams :D and really dumb teams dont have avts :D

true, but I said that you can do my strategy and still get the MCP to the outpost WITH working AVTs sitting right beside the MCP. The AVTs would just be firing in some random location because a different vehicle is like hiding behind a hill, or spamming decoys just to redirect its fire.

easy way to change target of an avt. You need a opressor sheilding the view point so avt cannot see the problematic vehicle anymore and only shoot angle outside sheild. Obviously don't shield in front of avt or it wont have any angle left, keep it far enought but not too much.

An AVT is the least of your concerns if the strogg brings out the cyclops from main. A decent player can keep the cyclops alive for a long time while keeping the mcp disabled indefinitely. (takes like 3 engys to negate the damage of a sieged cyclops on mcp)

If they are dumb enough to keep repairing like lemmings instead of dealing with the threats first. But then again there are lots of players like that on these forums.

Yeah, I redirected fire from an AVT by parking my titan behind a hill just enough so that the AVT could see it but not hit it. I threw some grenades at that AVT, and some dumb constructors repaired it and actually wasted time vs something like destroying my titan.

It takes like 2 shots to disable an AVT, I think you were the one wasting your time and your team's Titan.

Yeah, true, but think about it. If I disable it, they could have just deployed a new one, or fixed it.
If I wasted a titan, WHICH NO ONE USED, to redirect fire of an AVT, then the constructor can't really do anything about it, except by wasting his time destroying the titan, enough time for the MCP to go through.
This brings me to a another tip. Please, there are vehicles in your old spawn. You can spawn there to use them. Don't be afraid to do so.
Since almost all the people on the GDF team on that one server I was on doing that redirect AVT fire trick, no one set foot in a titan, or near the place where a titan spawns, so that would be a free tank for me because I was the only one who spawns there.

airstrikes baby! airstrikes!
yah there are certain places i have found, you can sit and still hit avts, but those places are usually based on where the avt is and what kinda time i have to fire on it. more often this technq is for enemy tanks, or a cyclops, that is not aware of my location, and also....sitting around in the tank hitting the avts is sometimes wasteful and not the best task to be working on, considering your f ops should be hitting them hard as well as your soldiers, and letting the tank and the gunner clear everything else that is around your obj/mcp

Seems like a lot of trouble if there's more than one AVT. In theory, the concept would work well with an Anansi since AVTs really are just too slow to take one down.
Personally, I get a nice Plasma Mortar for that part of the job as Strogg.
AVT diverting is a great move though. During the bridge phase of Valley I just drive the Titan a little into the canyon on the right side. If the strogg get an AVT the rockets just hit the bridge and I've got the whole right side covered for long enough.

Sure, but what the rocket artillerie? Or emp grenades in combination with airstrikes, rockets in dumb modes, exploding 3rd eye cams etc.?
The Cyclops slow movement alone makes him very vulnerable for airstrikes, especially if he is in siege mode and has to stand up first.
Think that... if AVT's or APT's are giving headaches just call a rocket-soldier... sometimes i just reswapn as one and destroy the turrets... the same with cyclops... although usually a good anansi player can take care of cyclops... and if it's good enough turrets too... cover ops can disable them easily if you give them enough cover... and a cover ops and a soldier team for disabling turrets should be awesome... although i haven't seen any... :S.

Doing this is a great tactic but you don't need a Titan, which as people have said, can probably be put to better use (like blasting the turrets). Try it with a Husky or Dillo. ;)
