View Full Version : Curious Question
This may have been asked or even answered elsewhere, but as I dont know, why not ask!!
In ET and numerous games these days, the buddylist, or squad is something you can add people to in game, like in ET you can setup your own fireteam, whilst I am aware ETQW will have the fireteam setup or something like it, what I want to know is, in the fireteam will it show the location of your team or fireteam members, if so, in what format?
In RtCW it would tell you where the person is "east city entrance" that type of thing, in ET it said "e2 r4" or something like that.
I always found the location specifics in ET to hard to bother with and wonder if ETQW will have a better way of showing you where your team mate is.
Sorry it took so long to get to that point, I am old

Hey evil,
Definitely agree with you re: location names > map coordinates.
For what it's worth, ET Pro allows you to show locations instead of coordinates, so that feature is definitely woth having a play with - b_locationMode 1

I'm sure I read somewhere that it displays location, their class and possibly other info.

I always use the W:ET command map to find out where my fireteam members are. IIRC I also use the etpro location mode :).

I recall one of SD members saying that full location names took too much room caused too much clutter. But stuff like B3 is overkill, it doesn't tell you anything unless you like to memorise segments of each map. B3-like locations force you to look at command map, so what's the point of location strings if you have to look at map anyway ?

Problem was in W:ET coordinates only told you x and y location. What was missing was the z axis. Many times you'd find yourself in the right spot but the person you want is either above or below you. IF QW has all 3 axis coordinates then I dont have a problem with it... however without a Z axis I'd be better off with location names... at least that way I can learn what the location is the longer I play the map. Thus the reason ETpro added what RTCW already had. I blame the Mortar for lack of location names in vanilla W:ET :P
Yeah add the Z-axis too. Just confuse me further and make it so I definetly wont use it. Tbh the ET system is so bad it's not even funny. In all previous id games you both learned the location names quickly and it was a great way to use those names for communication with your clan mates during matches.
I do tend to agree that map location names are easier, you can learn the map that way and you can communicate this position over venty to team mates easier than you can by saying g4h2.

Although it wouldn't be the "right" thing to do, you could take a glance at the leaked screenshots to see what the sort of display is atm

I guess not, most of them had the player names and probably their location washed out.

We have location names. We, as with everyone else, realised that co-ordinates are not very intuitive, so we've gone back to locations, with some improvements! ;)
