View Full Version : How to get easy kills on Valley (GDF)

If you want to get easy/quick kills, simply follow this set of instructions for the Valley map.
Start as a sniper and get into a Husky. Get into the CLOSEST Husky! After that, head upwards and out of the gate. When you get to the Platypus, make sure thes not a Tormentor around, or you will have to start this all over. OK, once you get in the Platypus, keep moving forward and head under the bridge. As soon as you go uder it, hard right! Get out of your vehicle and head up the slope. You should be in the area where you drive the MCP. Move up ahead to the tunnel, then this is where you should stop, right at the entrance. Check behind youto make sure that there is nobody behind you, and then get ready for the hard part! There should be many small tanish walls. You should see Strogg spawning up ahead, so stay about 2 walls behind where they are spawning. Get you Sniper Rifle out, and fire away! If a Strogg comes near you, get out your (Pistol/Mini-Machine Gun) and when they come up to you, kill em!
You will get many kills you aim for the head, as any Anti-Personals will be aiming towards your allies. Again, aim for the head, or at least hit em as many times as fast as you can. You can use other classes, though I strongly suggest using sniper, as whenever I use it, they never turn around. I haven't tested it in any other class yet, but I'll tell you when I test um and what the outcome is. Good luck, and post your feedback!:oppressor:

Yes, dont deploy a Radar because without Radar your team will be stuck longer on this objective (if you're especially lucky they'll even never complete it) so you can use your zomgowndplace for a longer time.
Additionally, since your team is stuck on the other side and doesnt have the Anansi for mobility, they cant even teamkill you in spite.
Mission accomplished! Both sides horribly annoyed (your own side more than the enemy - that gets you extra good snipah grades).
Of course once the Strogg stop taking the side exit and take the front exit you wont see any anymore but who wants to bother with such little details...

Good tactic, would suppress and allow another team member to build the bridge.
But I see 2 spots where you could improve it.
Like above - DEPLOY a radar. This is a team game and will help your team to get some XP.
Drop the mini radar at the mouth of the tunnel, to help when MCP reached that point, will also let you see your surrounding area.

OK, thanks, I'll test that out :)
Also, you can't deploy a radar at the foot of the tunel becuase it's in enemy territory, right?

That just means that you deploy a radar BEFORE you cross into enemy territory.
I dont see this working the whole round though. After the first few kills they usually will try to kill the sniper. Since you are in enemy territory, they will probably grab a vehicle or spawn behind you to kill you.

Acctualy, if you are playing vs a computer, they will not attack you unless you move forward to much. There wouldn't be anybodybehind you, as if the start at the Strogg base, somebody will take the Tormentor, and then they will eventualy take some land vehicle and gi twoards then place with the Sheild Generator, and over to the fight. I've tried it, I got many kills, AND made it to the good sniper point up on the hill.

Bleh, that's primitive and not so mean at all. You can do better.
Deploy radar, take Husky, Armadillo, or Platypus and reach the tunnel exit. I mean the place where "The MCP has left the tunnel !" message is played. Climb the rock until you stand on concrete where Strogg Icarus loves to camp and spam. There should be a tree near you.
Now the tricky part - look up and climb the mountain until you reach the top ! When you can no longer go forward, back up a little bit, switch to pistol for faster movement, sprint and jump. Aim a little to the right and jump again. Long story short, there are TWO ways to reach the top of the mountain as GDF, one path everyone knows about and the other from Outpost side. Desecrators sometimes use it to reach the top of the mountain. As infantry, it's harder, but possible.
Backstab any infiltrators or opressors you find, and enjoy the view ! Nobody expects GDF there, and so soon ! Shoot constructor in back of his head. Throw grenades or airstrikes at turrets (because of great position you can easily hit 3+ turrets, depends how many are deployed). Snipe Icarus in the back as they leave the tunnel. Snipe the strogg approaching construction zone.
When you pull it off (fairly easy) it's devastating ! It really cripples the defending team, because everyone except those in the tunnel are in your field of view, and you have high ground. Notes:
1) With good GDF team you may find the bridge is already constructed when you climb the mountain
2) Once bridge is constructed, you're very close to tunnel spawn exit. Slide down the mountain or jump and use parachute. Unless enemy thought about it earlier, you'll reach the spawn before constructors have time to plant mines.
3) The top of the mountain is also a good position for a field op or soldier with GPMG .
----------------------
Another very cool sniping spot is on the roof of Outpost building. You can reach it via ladder on balcony. Unfortunately, climbing the ladder takes long time and exposes you to enemy fire. This is where disguise comes in handy. Opressor and Infiltrator disguises are very good for this.
From the roof you can snipe enemies coming from both spawns. You can also shoot constructors in the back as they try to place or repair turrets. Just keep an eye (ear) on Icarus and occasional sniper.

In my experience there are always a few Stogg at the back of the tunnel during the bridge building phase, some placing turrets, radars, some bringing up vehicles from the Strogg base spawn. In a good game on a descent server it's not likely you'd be able to hang back there very long before you took a plasma round to the back of your head.
File this under yet another horrible "Sniper tactic".
Be sure not throw smoke over objective, or deploy radar, or provide sniper support because then you will get less kills.

Hmm, it's kinda hard to sneak pass 12 stroggs. And once you sniped the same person twice in a row, he'll be sure to hunt you down.

As said above, this will only work against noobs. Any half decent Strogg team will have some people spawning back to deploy radar/turrets, bring back vehicles or plant mines at the forward spawn.

Just wait until your covert ops avatar becomes roadkill after I'm done with you.
This comes to the point about radar. If you have deployed a radar first, you would have seen this huge black thing with a glowing orange thing in front. And sniping people from behind is the lamest thing as long as they have defensive deployables. I would say throwing smoke is 100 times better than sniping and becoming roadkill.

You wouldn't be roadkill becuase your behind a wall, on the side of the road.

Let's face it. There's an economy at play here. To make the ET franchise successful, the game has to appeal to all types of players. There are the pilots, the strategy nuts, the snipers, the deathmatch shootouters, and the teamwork folks. We've got to endure those unlike ourselves or we'll be playing with ourselves.
So perhaps we can coach snipers to help our own agenda. In this spawn snipe strategy, I would ask that if you see strogg deploying turrets in the backfield, don't try to kill them. Instead, rack up XP by hacking them in advance of the MCP arrival. Heck, use your third-eye camera to disable them pending repair. If it weren't for AVP turrets, the MCP would cruise past the tunnel. Nothing else can reliably stop it.

Are you IN the tunnel? Which wall are you talking about. Usually the hog comes in from the strogg side of the tunnel, not the bridge side. So if you aren't protected, you might as well get hogged, or even hog hyperblastered.

You want feedback? Here's feedback. This is what I read when I saw you opening post
If you want to get easy/quick kills and disregard your team-members and the objective to win, simply follow this set of instructions for the Valley map.
Start as a sniper and get into a Husky.
Radar? Who needs radar, forget about it, it's only THE most important thing you could do as a Covert Ops, sorry, NOT Covert Ops, you have special dispensation from the Pope and you do not have to DO YOUR JOB.
Get into the CLOSEST Husky.
Don't even think about the fact that another teammate could make better use of it, I mean it's for you yeah? Only you for you are the l33t3st sniprrr in town, you ROCK and you know it!
After that, head upwards and out of the gate . When you get to the Platypus, make sure thes not a Tormentor around, or you will have to start this all over. OK, once you get in the Platypus, keep moving forward and head under the bridge. As soon as you go uder it, hard right!
Get out of your vehicle, you don't need it anymore, it's has got you to where you want to be, no-one else really needed it did they, like for getting to the bridge and complketing objectives, you know boring stuff like winning the map
and head up the slope. You should be in the area where you drive the MCP. Move up ahead to the tunnel, then this is where you should stop, right at the entrance. Check behind youto make sure that there is nobody behind you, and then get ready for the hard part!
Woo hooo! You are standing behind the enemy who are spawning, with an incredibly accurate weapon and targeting players with a hitbox the size of a football pitch.
Yep, that's it, that's how to be really useful Covert Ops
You will get many kills you aim for the head, as any Anti-Personals will be aiming towards your allies. Again, aim for the head, or at least hit em as many times as fast as you can. You can use other classes, though I strongly suggest using sniper, as whenever I use it, they never turn around. Good strategy - only if youre into massive botkills.
Any average human player with a radar would find and kill you within 2 min.
Does anyone here need more strategies for sniping bots ?
I hope not.

I see three reasons for that:
1) Practice for beginners.
2) Internet is down, or the connection sux atm
3) You discovered something new while playing online and want to practise it now

Hey, I have a tutorial to snipe people: spawn, run, find a camp-snipe point, use a snipe rifle and snipe.

Ah, yes, like others have said. DO NOT DEPLOY A RADAR.

Whats your problem with Snipers/Covert Ops?
The main problem people have is that 'snipers' often go and find a remote spot to camp in and take pot-shots at the enemy. This is all well and good, but there's so much more to being a covert ops; hacking objectives, infiltrating behind enemy lines and sabotaging deployables, providing covering fire and smoke cover for team-mates, and so on... many don't even bother to deploy a radar, something that most people will agree is critical in this game (I know I feel extremely disadvantaged when I don't know where the enemy are).
All of this is very frustrating to the rest of the team, as they may as well be playing with one less team member. I personally don't have a problem with people sniping, I do it myself often, but a good covert ops knows when to snipe (i.e. when it benefits the team) and when to help out in other ways.

TBH the reason i hate snipers is because they in no way help there team most of the time.....and the team with the must snipers usually loses.
i like knifing them in the back :D. this is 1 of the reasons stroggs win most games because i tend to be more gdf snipers than strogg.

I think everyone should calm down. His advice is not good and shows a lack of understanding the point of the game but as it turned out, he is just a newbie (giving advice for playing against bots).
Mastergamer, the reactions are because of two things - first, not deploying radar. Understand that people are "traumatized" with radarless picknick snipers. You'll learn why once you start using radar.
The other thing is that the game isnt about collecting kills (although it is a byproduct) or "not dying" but about getting the objectives done. Many snipahs do not play the game in this way, their primary motivation is to not die. This makes them useless and severely handicaps their team. They are like a player in a football match who doesnt care about shooting goals or not getting goals in, but just about dribbling with the ball until he loses it. Obviously, the players in his team wouldnt appreciate his presence and it's the same here with the picknick snipahs. Even worse, unless on the football field we cannot throw him out of our team or refuse to ever play with him again - and unless in football (where everyone understands the point of the game), here are many of those morons around.
Second, snipahs do nothing but hunt infantry. Considering this one-sidedness their kills per time rate is poor. The only thing they have going for them is kill/death-ratio which is completely irrelevant for the game. Some are good at hunting infantry and they have a good kill/time ratio but as i said, most do not. Most are useless.
If you absolutely want to play as a snipah you might want to keep some things in mind in order to be of use to your team and not behave like the football player who just runs off with the ball and keeps it for himself as long as possible
- deploy a radar and keep it deployed (redeploy if destroyed/disabled), and make sure that it's radius covers the objective (if possible); if your team gets one objective done, move the radar forward for the new objective; slightly advanced, dont put it where engineers like putting their turrets but slightly behind.
- dont only snipe for easy kills but do counter sniping; few snipahs do this as it means that they might die which is the single thing they want to avoid at all costs.
- if the objective is indoors, your 3rd eye camera can act as a radar; deploy it close to the objective somewhere where it is unlikely to be seen or hit by a grenade.
- keep in mind your other tools; EMP grenades can disable turrets or vehicles for a while which will help your team; sometimes (most of the time?) it is beneficial to move closer to the action and use your grenades; you can also hack deployables to disable them for a full minute which is nice (most snipahs dont do this because they might be shot during hacking).
- if the main objective is a CovOp's one (hack), do it.
just pick a trojan/titan/armadillo go to the strogg spawnpoint in the tunnel and camp there, its way easier

I have never once given my opinion of this guide .. good or bad

I merely have a hatred of snipers , I also firmly believe that if you play on a public server using those tactics of yours you will instantly become very unpopular with a huge army of players.

The main problem with all of these "tactics" is that there is nothing wrong with the "stay close to your team and defend your engies" tactic.
-If you have a radar up you know exactly when and where the enemy is coming.
-You're close enough to throw smoke at the objective, even though it isn't extremely helpful.
-It's a lot easier to kill the Icarus spammers when you are near them.
-You can snipe inside the tunnel.
-And finally, in the time it takes you to get on the hill or behind the enemy you should already have built the bridge and captured the spawn point.
