View Full Version : Self-Arming Juggle Mines

Since I've only gotten self-arming mines a couple of times, I haven't yet had a chance to try this...

Theoretically, would it be possible to "juggle" a mine up into the air and hit a flyer with it? Would the self-arming mine detonate on contact with the aircraft and blow it up?

I understand that you would have to be directly under an aircraft that was hovering (or be a really good shot) in order for this to work, but is it possible?

I suspect the mines actually don't start self arming until they touch the ground ... otherwise it is a damn fine nutty plan :]

just try with manually arming mines at a vehicle and let the enemy drive it, see if it explodes or not, bingo.

They blow up when someone gets in. At least that's what happened the last time I did it. Obviously, they would also detonate when someone came close to them.

they dont blow up if someone gets in the other side. i tried it with a hog once. i stuck a pile of mines on the nose of the hog, and had a friend hop in and drive it around.. he did with no problem, because he got in the hog from the back. so yeah, the idea might work, the mine would stick.. but it wouldnt blow up until it got close enough to an enemy OUTSIDE the vehicle, possibly including the pilot exiting the vehicle.

This is what I've found to be the case as well...too bad. I figured that what with them being proximity mines that they would blow up whenever an enemy was in the proximity. I think they do have to be moving around in the proximity though.:(

It is actually quite fun to purposefully mine vehicles in an enemy spawn. Nothing is funnier when someone runs for the husky only to have it blow up and take the player with it.

I tried to put a mine on a enemy vehicle once but it said "this belongs to the enemy".

Also with proxymines you have to be facing the business end to trigger them, so that's probably why they didn't blow up when you stuck them on the front and the player got in from behind. They will probably blow up if he drives up close to another enemy though :) (or when any other explosion triggers them). I don't have the chance to do it often but I like to throw mines under enemy vehicles, they will blow up when someone gets in or comes close enough.

Hmm thats odd. I was placing the mines on the vehicles that had spawned but were not used yet. It might be that you cannot place mines on vehicles once someone uses them because it has moved.

MCP is a mine magnet too. Nothing like a GDF engie with his tool in his hand and explosive on the ride.

This happens when the tool (pliers or Strogg-thing) isn't centered directly on the mine. The games mis-interprets your action and thinks that you're trying to repair the enemy vehicle/deployable and helpfully informs you that it belongs to the enemy. Planting mines on enemy equipment is allowed and possible.

Also, "I require a BEER!"

you can have mines go off when you plant them on the nose of your plane, then get close to another plane. Its pretty amusing to watch you both go down. I often do this during warmup or when seeding a server.

It's more the player misinterpretting his own action than the game. If the player's aiming at an enemy vehicle and not at his own mine, then he's not trying to arm it :P

Yeah that's probably what happened. I just tried it offline and could put mines on any enemy vehicle but it will give you that warning at first if you're real quick with the arming tool - ie it takes a second for the game to realize there's a mine there and you're not trying to repair an enemy vehicle.
