ha Fileplanet does suck on this one i mean charging $40 for a chance to play QW today i think i brought 2142 for about that. I know you get the account for the year but it is obvious they are pushing it for those desperite for some QW. This is the same thing as getting 0% fixed APR on a credit card for new subscribers. It's called a sign on bonus or incentive. They're trying to get more people to sign up for their service and they cut a deal with the publisher to offer something that people want (read: not NEED) and as payment for dishing out the files for them, they're getting a cut out of the deal.

It's business. You're only getting raped if you're dumb enough to sign up solely for the purpose of getting the beta. They're not selling you a beta they're offering a perk for signing up for their service. If you don't want it, you can still get a key regardless. So it doesn't violate consumer rights at all.

besides, this distribution method is a very good solution. if they would give it out for free, you'd just become a random number and you might get on the beta or not. with the fileplanet subscription you get a real chance to get on the beta, i. e. if you want it, you get it. if you don't like that, queue up like the rest of the world and wait for the free keys.

how many download for the beta atm. I know it's not exact as many have downloaded without a key but I'd imagine maybe 1/2 would be those with a key.

I paid the $8 for the month, and I'll pay $8 for any other betas that I want to play. I really have bigger things to worry about in my life than losing $8 for something I will hopefully get more than 5 hours play from, I really don't see how it's a big deal, stop complaining about something so little, if you have a problem, do no pay for it, and boycott the game, fileplanet and anything else you wish. All this shit is going to happen if you like it or not, and these threads are tiring, just give it a rest.

Well this is our chance for those who feel aggrieved with FP and their current method to let SD know. there are justified concerns regarding the concept of using a beta to drive customers into FP fangs.
it is NOT about that you have to pay money, it is about business ethics and the way a company treats its customers.
for example, to ignore the people who pre-ordered the game and to choose not to dignify those customers behaviour is based on voracity - they prefer to make some extra money with a third party company who has nothing to do with the game itself.

it's a question of principles, ethics and if you sell your own customers to some other companys for money.

the good thing is, it really doesn't matter how the guys who programmed a game are considered - i'll play good games, no matter wether they are programmed by osama bin laden himself or the orphanarium down the street.

First thing I did when seeing that was cancelling my Fileplanet subscription.
What kind of customer care is it to pull new customers in with an offer like that and let long-time subscribers rot?

Funny thing is: they're totally achieving their goal. The beta client is available on bittorrent already and I think when the keys become available, quite many won't even have to use FP's servers or bandwidth anymore, which makes them double (or triple or even worse) winners of this situation.

I asked the Fileplanet support it was kinda lame i just renewed my annual subscription by upgrading to a bi-annual one, and then a couple of days later learning of this offer.

The kind man offered me a key in return for it, that atleast is something :)

i see absolutely no reason for criticism. and i've already learned: nothing in life is for free, not even death as that costs life. if you want something, you need to do something to get it. as i said before: the fileplanet thing is the ideal way to really get into the beta, i. e. if you want it, you get it. no need to queue up in line or refresh a webpage a gazillion times in order to get the subscription page before everyone else gets it.

i admit that i had my concerns at first, but now i think that the way this is currently handled is the ideal solution.

haha, you wanna know what the funny part of all of this is? Its the BF fan boys. They complain about the fast game speed that Wolf had carried and are disappointed that they can't go rambo and do everything on their own.
