everything you add has the possibility of being buggy so saying you are 99% done then adding the final 1% could move you back to 90% in terms of being close enough for a deadline

This post actually made me lol a bit (a really silent and weak lol but anyway). Any kind of percentage can never be more than a wild guess. It would be like one of the coder fix bug #396 and stands up and says "yeah!! where now on 91 per cent!". It's just silly and perhaps a general idea at best.

It is what it is gents. Frankly the development team can take as long as they need to make sure we all get shipped a quality title. Pressure from investors, media, and the community is the last thing they need. I can't tell you how many AAA titles were ruined because the dev crew gave into such pressure. I'm not alone in hoping this title is everything we all feel it will be. With FPS gaming and clan/squad based titles being rather lack this one is huge for many teams like my own. It will be done when its done and leave it at that. Until then I will continue checking my email every 10 minutes lmao. :)

He means Battlefield. "Can i play this game with good visuals". That depends how good is good to you. One thing is almost for sure that you will not be able to play Quake Wars with most settings on high.

You should be fine playing at pretty decent eye candy with that setup though.

If you read the articles and threads carefully, you'll see that TTimo cannot guarantee to release the Linux version at the same time of the windows version. He would just sit in the way if the people at SD still need to fix some things in the windows client shortly before going gold, thus minimizing the chance of a simultaneous release.
It should be ready a few weeks/days before or after the regular release.

Now I finally understand why the companys never announce specific release dates, since the majority of the people isn't thankful enough that something is about to come AT ALL and besides has no patience.

Don't need to explain to me the purpose of a beta if IGN networks is contracted by ID software to distribute the client.

However since IGN Networks failed to notice consumers of a service which had been offered in Mid April, I highly doubt they are being given information. The dates revealed to us are fabricated and based off of what they see in their previews.

well i got a feeling that since today (or yesterday) was one month according to gamestop, and still no word on a demo, that by the 20th this month is nothing is out, it probably will be held back

but even that, alot of companies release a demo during or after a game release, so we will just have to wait and see

come on guys some one must have some news on when the beta will start as they said they are going to inform the community, my clan mad4gaming has already registered the 10 keys that were given to us by one of my clan members that has already beta tested the first beta! and still no news we have all had 2 emails and thats your lot! still awaiting the email with the download link will we ever get it or are we awaiting in vain, with the game so close to release! why did they ask to do a public (closed) beta test? so close to the release of the game? is there a problem? with my clan no being 200+ members in a variety of games most of them are asking the questions that nobody seems to have answers for.

We all are sad about waiting such a long - really long time.
I remember a posting in the SD Forum where people talked about a closed beta provided by fileplanet... and the release of a public beta some weeks ago - we still wait for this public beta.

Oh not to forget - i spend 47 Euros for an empty package with some dogtags and two artwork cards - dont know what i should do with them -. Its a really poor way to pre-sale a game and mybe i have to pay some bucks more to get the released game - told by an info on the package...

P.S. i dont have an own server company but i already payed the developers for an unfinished game with currently no demo released - but i believe in SD that it would be a great game so dont blame us and let us see what we have payed for...

Locki: Actually we have a Light Server Build which does not require all of the Megatexture Files. This is the minimum you need to run the server. You will need to have a special CD-Key to run it, but its free. Game shop dates are almost never right. They make an educated guess as to when the game might come out because it's harder to convince people to preorder something when the release date is nebulous or nonexistent.

Once the game goes gold, there will be a press release and all the game shops will update their ship dates accordingly.

I will be very surprised if the game is not in stores before Quakecon in August. Other than that, I don't have a guess. Roughly July-ish, then.

That reasoning is a bit spurious. The game is in permanent delay status because it is nowhere even close to the initial release period listed in the first demo video.

This game will never be 'un-delayed.' Rather, it will be 'released after an extensive delay,' in my opinion.

How people find this tolerable and even feel comfort because the game will supposedly be less buggy and so much better, is beyond me.

We may only have a two week wanring as Quake4 went gold two weeks before it shipped. The Devs said the demo would be out a couple of weeks before the game ships. It's possible the demo will be released the same day they announce they've gone gold.

I suspect that right now they are utilizing the elite clans they brought into the beta to have them play against each to tweak gameplay with no serious technical issues to deal with. There have been hints in the interviews that this game will ship before quakecon. Not many games ship in the summer so I think June 4 to July 4 is the window.

I hope SD, ID and Activision make big bucks if this game matches the hype.

Hey,..., The biggest German Media seller (Media Markt) sells the preorder packs with the comment (Mid June).

My Next sentence is just a thought: I can't imagine that they delay the game much from that date just for ecconomic factors. They definitly can (should) not release the game in August (temprature high) so earliest would be september / october..but the resellers would (in my opinion) not do such marketing efforts in wild guesses...surely its easy to put it on your webshop...but mediamarkt released a whole flyer ad just about the game which costs some xxxxxx thousand Euros.

Why all this thoughts about if it will be a "public" beta or not. I say not as the game is teambased and already in clantesting so there is actually no need for a public beta - that stage is already passed.
The demo is ofc - as someone said - gonna be released a couple of weeks before the game itself. If the demo is good enough it will only increase the QW hype aswell as sales.
I have no doubt the game itself will be good enough since its already mentioned as "Enemy-Territory 2". And ET is by far the best team based mp game in history. That kind of gameplay with a mothern engine aswell as leet gfx will most likely decrease my suntan to minimum this summer as the game will be released.
I say demo in June and by that time the game will be done and they start shipping it to stores world wide.

From a marketing point of view, the idea of keeping everyone waiting is generating a huge amount of free publicity.
Like many other clans, we were given 10 Beta keys, and told we MAY be selected. Instantly, all those clans are deciding who should get them and 10 players from each clan are now checking e-mail and websites daily.
They launched the official forum, leaked details that some clans ( e.g Dignitas) are already involved in the Beta, released box artwork and screenshots. The speculation is massive.

From SD / ID point of view this is a powerful marketing tool, but unfortunately for us we are like small children in the back of a car on a hot day saying "are we there yet"

There will be plenty of other promising games at the end of 07 (dx10 games), which ET:QW can't afford to compete with. Specially with simular games already out(bf2, bf2142) and the masses wont know the difference between those games but will oviously know the difference between Crysis and ET:QW.

Big marketing mistake was taking their sweet time on making ET:QW and not releasing the game by this Spring, where there was no games to over shadow it.

But I can imagine them making alot more money on the console versions of the game. But then again, MGS4, GTA 4 and halo 3...nevermind

I have pre ordered my game and was too late for the beta test, no demo in sight either which is poor and dissapointing TBH.

Everyone slags of BF2142, albeit it istill has its bugs, at least I have got my copy and its playable and also the pre order of NS came out on time, wish the same could be siad for this game.

If nothing much happens with this soon I'll be cancelling my pre order as am fed up waiting and will just go for MOH Airborne instead.

It is what it is gents. Frankly the development team can take as long as they need to make sure we all get shipped a quality title. Pressure from investors, media, and the community is the last thing they need. I can't tell you how many AAA titles were ruined because the dev crew gave into such pressure. I'm not alone in hoping this title is everything we all feel it will be. With FPS gaming and clan/squad based titles being rather lack this one is huge for many teams like my own. It will be done when its done and leave it at that. Until then I will continue checking my email every 10 minutes lmao. :)

can't get why they just don't give us a date. doesn't matter if later then june, as long as we know when to expect it for real. the long waiting is making people unpatience and many are rethinking of whether they really are going to wait on a game that seems to never get released.

i'd prefer a released game with some small bugs that can be fixed in a patch, rather then having to wait, wait, wait and once more wait. on something that will need patching no matter how complete they think it is when eventually released ^_*

You can take your sweet time on everything. That's right.

Doctors, lawyers, engineers, especially doctors have a certain time limit to finish the job. Also medical researchers. Not only do they have to get things done right for a cure, they have to get things done right FAST.

I'm generally slow at doing stuff, so maybe being a game developer isn't such a bad idea, me being slow and all, and also game devs can take their time on pretty much anything.

This game does not and has never had an official release date. So people who claim that it is "late" in some fashion need to reevaluate their position. Id has a history of games that are "done when they are done". They also have a history of creating the best and most influential fps's over the last decade.

It sucks to be told to wait again and again for a product you really really want to support, but you have to keep the end goal in sight. I know that the length of et:qw's development cycle is neccesary, simply because Sd/Id/Atvi want us to play this game. They are not keeping it from you out of spite and I seriously doubt that they are keeping it from you because of the console version.

So, like is has been said time and time again; Patience, the game will be done when it's done.

All I know is that, game development is the only occupation that requires a type of science degree, and is an occupation that lets you take your sweet time, compared to other occupations that require science degrees and getting it done right and getting it done fast is better than getting it done wrong and getting it done slow.

Occupation that require arts degrees on the other hand, lets you take your sweet time becuase you are basically writing a novel, making a movie, or making a tv show.

All I know is that, construction projects is put in set completion date, that is not available to the public, but only known to construction workers.

Finding cures for disease does not have a due date. They are silent, and that silence actually means when it's done.

Game development can be both, and I would have to say that Splash Damage is going to the medical disease cure way compared to the construction way.

If EA were to be construction engineers, or medical researchers on finding cures, their "product" would be out fast, but their "product" would fail. For example, if EA were to construct a bridge, the bridge would already crumble on the first day.

But your point applies to all games - not just ET:QW
It is simply the nature of the Games Industry and although it is frustrating, you learn to expect delays and scant information.

A closed Beta test, is designed to identify flaws / glitches / bugs and subsequently fix them. If I were a publisher / developer, with a game at the Beta test stage, I wouldnt be able to give you a release date either because I would not be able to predict how many faults would be found and how long it would take to fix them. It would be a guess at best and all I could really say would be "its ready when its ready".

German Media Market is not affiliated with id, Splash Damage or Activision and have no more idea when the game comes out than my grandmother, who coincidentally also has no idea when it comes out.

I'll see if I can get her to pick out a random date and we can pretend that's when the game comes out and argue about it.

No date counts unless it comes directly from id, SD or Activision. When the game goes gold, there will be a press release that will confirm when exactly the thing ships. Neither Gamestop, Amazon, Wal-Mart or McDonald's knows at this time.

Sure they want as less bugs as possible but to upset the community with only the words "when its done" isnt the right way IMO. (its reserved for DN4EVER ;) )

And again - its a unbounded cheek to pre-release a game and than maybe release it more than two month after pre-sale. Its a free credit from the people who want to support SD/Activision and speed up the release even motivate the SD crew with a high sales quantity.

German Media Market is not affiliated with id, Splash Damage or Activision and have no more idea when the game comes out than my grandmother, who coincidentally also has no idea when it comes out.


I dont think so... They have to be affiliated with at least Activision (maybe just Activision Germany) to presale the game...

After such a long time the publisher wants to see the first income for such a great project... Pre-Sale is the best way to get this money but in IMO the have to be honest to the credit grantors and tell them at least the quarter and the year when it is released.

fragship is correct, if it hadn't been put out for pre release sales with a promise of delivery by who ever ages ago, and i mean like 8months or so i wouldn't be pissed off surely you guys have some responsibility over your products and the vendors of it. now im sat her skint thinking about just getting my money back. i want to play this game and in all honesty with online games + the benefit of patches and or a system where you can have large scale beta testing with updates like steam does would be more productive. the game must be near to completion its been flogged to death on the event's and gaming conventions.

I dont get how they have pre-orders, promo codes to reserve your name, and when u ask for a release date, They say " it will be released when its done. Thats a fair answer but..

why don't you wait until the game is gold untill you unleash your marketing schemes. Then you won't have thousands of ppl asking when is the game going to be released, becuase they pre-ordered this game almost a year ago..and i thought EA was bad.

Gamestop sold preorders and used to give a date for Duke Nukem Forever. Seriously, they don't have a clue. They're just guessing.

This is not entirely true. I worked at Gamestop for a year when I was younger, and also opened a small ma-and-pa gameshop in Huntington village, NY.

What we get is dates from the distributor. We log-in to the site, go to the section we want (pc software) and see whats available, order what we need, etc. You can also opt to be in on a mailing list that sends you new dates, when games become available for pre-order, etc. I had a date for Halo 2 long before it released, and then was updated when the date was solid so that I could pre-order my copies.

So, really, the gamestores are not guessing at when they are getting a game in. They are basing it off of the dates the distributor is giving, and often get the games days before they release to the public. I had a case of 20 copies of Halo 2 (on Xbox) the Friday before it was released. Needless to say, I had a lot of friends that weekend :P.

So the dates might be being guessed by the distributors, but the gamestore owners are basing our release dates on what we "thought" was "solid data" coming from said distributors. ;)

I just know that if we are at 14th may and we don´t have ANY SOLID NEWS of demos or progress of this game, i can only think that this won´t be released in june 07.

Cause june is too close, we should at least receive any news, i also hate that "done, when it´s done iada iada..."

So much delays and little news...i am quite sure that must be something really wrong with this game...(hope not)
