see fps: com_showfps 1
unlock fps: com_unlockfps 1( I think ).

Try listcvars *fps*
That should show all the cvars that contains 'fps'.

If com_unlockfps is 1, and com_unlock_maxfps is also 60 or above, then your PC is simply not good enough for the beta to hit higher. The game seems to try and snap to multiples of 30 for the purposes of even divisions between game ticks.

If you can't hit 60 in the beta, don't worry too much yet. There ARE performance increases in the works-- this isn't like a Google Beta where the term beta means "just about finished"

My mistake. com_unlock_maxfps xx where xx is a number that you wish to cap it to.

Setting it to 1 will cap it to 1FPS. Updated.

Your 8800GTX definitely should be able to be pegged at 60. You may have something else besides the beta going on with your PC. Check drivers, etc etc.

we need a sticky thread by a mod on all the fixs.. cause when it comes to tech support, threads will be spamed for answers then become 3 pages long (to where no ones going to bother with the search thing to have to look though 3 pages of flame/BS/spam just to find a answer)

the sticky should also be locked and updated at least hourly

sponge may have some hints here. i think com_unlockfps and com_unlock_maxfps should stay at they given initial value (1 and 60) but what about com_unlock_timingmethod? the explanation is to vague to conclude anything from. hopefully someone can help us out here...

update from cvar.html

com_unlock_avgFrames | average out render times over n frames for extra renders management
type: int

com_unlock_maxFPS | maximum FPS unlock will try to reach (only works in timing methods 1 & 2) - zero = no limit
type: int

com_unlock_safetyMargin | percentage safety margin under which not to trigger an extra render
type: float

com_unlock_timingMethod | method of timing interpolated/extrapolated frames: 0 = whenever they fit; 1 = on boundaries of framerate multiples of 30; 2 = like 1, but using total previous everything time to estimate, not just render time
type: int

com_unlockFPS | allow renderer to go faster than game ticks
type: bool
default: 1 (true)

Generally, when you don't know what it is, it's best not to muck with it. In this case, the timingMethod command is OK by default.

You may choose to cap to a higher FPS (the magic FPS numbers 43, 76, 125, 333, etc DO NOT MATTER in ET:QW) say your refresh rate. If you have a crappy computer like mine, you may choose to disable the framerate uncapping entirely.

My fps varies a fair bit with this game. From 150 to 60's.

I have:
8800gtx
E6700 cpu
2 gig of ram

Anyone who has other questions or comments as it relates to the above commands, Fearog posted a nice guide:
