Drop down your console (CTRL + ALT + ~) and type in this command:

setMachineSpec 0

which will lower the game to minimum graphics (which still looks pretty damned good, might I add!) YMMV, but I can go from 15->35FPS, hitting 60FPS indoors on a 1.8GHz e4300, and a cheapo ATI X800 GTO.

As far as I know the first time you use this you need to do it before loading a map, otherwise you'll have to restart the game after using the command to get it working fully.

As a slight addendum to that, you will also notice a slight FPS boost, but for the full effect you need to reboot the game. vid_restart doesn't cut it.

15 fps on a x800gto + e4300 haha. interesting.

That's unlucky, I'm hoping I can achieve max fps with everything low!

How do you think my rig will perform? I see people with good hardware having frame rate issues.

AMD X2 5200+
2GB Corsair XMS2 800mhz (4.4.4.12)
150GB 10,000rpm HDD (Raptor)
eVGA Geforce 8800GTX Superclocked
SB Audigy 4 7.1

I don't have SLI, and my proc. is 2.6Ghz, so I hope this should be sufficient to achieve at least 60fps with v-sync on. (My monitor is set for 60hz)

Thanks for any input.

PS: I get 10,000+ in 3DMark 2006 with all settings at default, and no v-sync, but hate the screen tearing so I always play with vertical sync on.

That system should be able to run the game on high graphics with good FPS, however remember its still in beta fase so there might be hardware issues.

Thanks. I can't wait to jump in. This game looks off the hook.

Although the whole "NVidia the way it's meant to be played" is a load of horse plop, experience shows that generally "the" card to get if you want to play ET:QW is the 8800GTS and 8800GTX.

A decent C2D and 8800 GTS or higher = instant 60+FPS. No, I'm not being paid by Intel nor NVidia, although I'm expediting my video card upgrade to an 8800GTS in the next couple of weeks.

I got 8800GTX
E6700
2gig dominator ram

im get around 130 to 60 fps on high settings. TBH i expected better with all that megatexture hype

i think ur 60fps has to do with this rounding thing people have been mentioning.

not sure if that is valid though...

That's weird. When I go indoors my frame rate goes from 140 to like 20...

I have an 8800GTX, Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz, 2GB DDR2-1066.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hello,
I got the disconnection icon on the upper right corner every time i try to connect a server.
I tried the setMachineSpec 0 command on the console...
here's the result :
Warning:renderProg 'trivialrgbskinningmatrixwithtexturematrix' is defaulted
Warning:renderProg 'trivialrgbhardskinningmatrixwithtexturematrix' is defaulted

Any odd ?

If you're building specifically for ET:QW.

Look at getting the E6600 Core2 Duo processor. 2GB PC2-6400 RAM. 8800GTS or higher.

i want to use setMachineSpec 0 to get 90 or more fps but it looks like the command sets com_unlockFPS to 0 internally and so i am locked to 30FPS any solution?

Yeah I'm aware of this, it wont affect you in anyway.

For completeness, changing the machinespec at run time should not cause you any problems, during gameplay it will change the render programs being used and various other setups in the map itself.

The reason for reloading is that setMachineSpec changes your texture size references, these are not reloaded at this point.

Ok if your ctrl+alt+~ is like mine (as my above post) you need to press ctrl+alt+` which on my keyboard is the top right key next to the number one!

Works for me!

seta com_allowconsole = opens console from tilde key, key that is located above tab and below esc. After that write, seta com_showfps 1 for fps counter.

Ok my machine is 3.2ghz 2gig of ram and a Nvidia Gforce Turbocache 6200SE, I get about 15-35 fps but at certain point in the game it drops to 5-8 mainly outside in wide areas.

I have to say this game is very very very good and if its a case of needing to go out and purchase a new machine to get a decent game out of it for me its worth it.

That being said if I can be tight and not have to cough up the cash it would be good, any suggestions greatley appreciated.

Above poster. Your vid card is the problem. You could get bye with that rig with a 6800GT or better. If you don't want to put more money into your present rig .you'll have to pony up,and build a new one.

This is a terrible low end card. Even a cheap mid range 7 series (7600 or better) card will be vastly better.

If your CPU is P4 3.2, thats a bit on the low side to, but combined with a decent video card should give you playable performance.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.5GHz

Memory: 1536MB RAM

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE
Display Memory: 256.0 MB

Sound: SB Live! Audio [D000]

Old lol.

I can get, pretty much 30 fps everywhere. FPS drops hard, in the server list mousing over servers (0 fps), loading the map the first time (0 fps), and in close combat/large fights (6-10 fps). From range i can get 15-30 (all i want in most games anyway) and indoors its pretty good. Ill prolly be getting a upgrade for this game eventually, not sure if ill buy it at launch though.

Been tweaking my settings, but turning texture graphics up or down seems to make no diffrence (other than making it look horrible, or very good) along with most other settings, my cpu i would guess. If it wasnt for fps dying up close in fights the game would run and look great.

I actually yanked a decent video card out of my mates machine last night and tried it on mine and it runs lovely!

Guess i'm going shopping today!

GeForce 7900GTX in SLI
C2D E6700 2.26
2 Gig

All on high aside from AA which is on x2.

Constant 60 but can drop a little at some points for no apparent reason. It is a beta however so i'll let it slide for now.

i don't really understand why some of you guys are getting such low fps my pc is pretty low spec (ati x600, P4 3.0ghz) but i still get constant 30fps and can get up to 55fps if i unlock the fps but i prefer a smooth frame rate.

I am playing in 640x400 tho maybe you guys should try a lower res doesnt look all that bad if u have the right cfg settings.

seta machinespec 0
seta com_unlock_timingMethod 2
seta com_unlockfps 1
seta com_unlock_maxfps 30 // change this to what ever you want your fps to max at.
seta r_shadows 0
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR"
seta r_megafadetime "500"
seta g_showPlayerShadow 0
seta com_showFPS 1

try these settings if you have a low spec pc gives a good fps but still looks pretty nice. make sure you save your old cfg somewhere incase you don't like these and want to change back.
