I agree on number 6. I was hoping it would be more "war" like.

For an answer to question 6 i think you need to wait longer, atm people are mostly messing around trying things out

1. Bunnyhopping, as in jumping around to increase speed is effective in certain cases, but for the most part it's not ET style strafe jumping down hills.
2. Ramp jumping is in. There are several spots on sewer where such a technique would be useful, to try and get past the enemy quicker, or to get higher ground. Some of these jumps are intentional. There are no game-ending jumps ala jumping over the wall and destryoing the Fuel Dump in 2 minutes.
3. Learn to rampjump, sprint with any one handed weapon to get a little boost.
4. There is not much teamplay yet as no one knows what they're doing.
5. There are plenty of smaller vehicles for transporation etc that you don't need to rely on other people driving if you don't want.
6. I'm not sure what you mean, can you be more specific? Objectives take place in one specific zone, fights are relatively quick, and are a test of both aiming skills, and movement skills, as strafing is important, along with jumping in very limited situations. It is like Quake or ET or Tribes, rather than Red Orchestra or CoD2 or CS:S.

I. What are the rewards for Battle Sense and Vehicles skills ? Can you say a bit about skill/xp rewards in general ?
II. Does GPMG/Hyperblaster slow you down ? It's not strictly better than assault rifle, right ?
III. How does strogg weapon overheating work/look like ? Can you see/hear it when another player's weapon overheats ?
IV. Why wasn't everyone playing Medic ? (videos and screenshots)
V. How strong are the deployables (turrets) ?
VI. How much ammo do you have, comparing to W:ET ? More ? Less ?
VII. Are landmines good for anything ? (They're visible now blah blah)

Now please remember, they are holding this beta for a reason, and as said by Badman, it does not reflect the released game at all, the beta will. It is still in production if they are still holding a beta. Rumor be told that they are using this as a way to patch up weapon aiming and a few other things.

Remember in ET when you performed a running jump on a diagonal platform? It could boost your jump if done right.

1. It's only objective, you won't get much XP.
2. Big two handed weapons slow you down more than normal two handed weapons. When you pull out a pistol or something, you go the same speed as everyone else with a pistol out.
3. It overheats when you fire it too much? Don't know what else to say
4. Dunno.
5. It's all a matter of opinion there
6. A bit more compared to ET.
7. Yes. Try 'em out and see.

Is it possible to get xp for doing a mission even if you didn't select it with 'm' key ? Would I have to press M to start getting xp for defending objective ?
mortis
06-19-2007, 06:45 PM
You get regular XP for doing things. You get bonus XP if you accept a specific mission and complete it.
For example:
You press M and are assigned the task of building the EMP disruptor. On the way you fix a tank and a turret, getting normal XP for those. On arrival you successfully build the EMP device getting 10XP for that objective plus 2 bonus XP for completing your mission. Had you not pressed M, you would not have received the extra 2 XP.
(The actual XP numbers are guesses by the way. And XP is not 1:1 with its value in W:ET, although the overall system is similar.)

In other words... If I do an objective without accepting a mission, and someone else does the same thing after accepting mission.... do we both get the same xp ?
mortis
06-19-2007, 07:04 PM
No.
Example: Two Mg nests need to be built. You take a mission to build one, but I just build one as I'm passing by. We both get 3XP for building each nest, but you get 2 bonus XP for completing your mission.
You are rewarded for "following orders" essentially. Acceptance of missions is optional, and they change as the map progresses. Sometimes there isn't a mission available.

When you hit m, it expands into a list showing everything, and you just scroll through it.

As long as I'm doing the right thing, why should it matter that I didn't press the 'm' key ? What are the benefits (for team) of me doing the objective after accepting a mission versus doing the objective without accepting a mission ?

You just get a little extra something for following orders. While being wrapped up in the thing helping yourself, you are also benefiting your team.

It's a learning tool mostly. I don't use it that much. If you're new to the game and/or love teh XP, its another fun thing to do to pass the time. It shows you where to go and tells you what to do.

Basically in the same way as W:ET does it. If you get TKed, you are given the option to complain (F1). Someone who receives too many complaints (the exact number is a server-side cvar) gets kicked from the server.

be good if it also showed how many other team members accepted the different missions. That way, if we see a mission that nobody is trying for, then we could do that, spread our forces a little better

A. Is it possible to use stealth, or do the red triangle indicators give you away too easily ?
B. Is it just me, or vehicle drivers never take gunners with them ? Has anyone tried letting teammate to his vehicle ? How about a video with 2 person vehicle ?
C. Can you actually disable the 'Grenaade !' shout ? I don't mean client side. I don't want to warn my opponents each time I throw a grenade. I always enjoyed handgrenades being one of stealthiest weapons.

I pick people up all the time. The tank by the way is exceptionally good with a gunner. You can absolutely pummel the enemy.

Can you tell us a bit more about the xp system?
Can you name all the xp awards you've earned so far? What do they do?
Also, what kinds of different stats can you upgrade with xp? In ET there was light weapons, battle sense and the class related skill - what do you have in QW?
What is your impression: does the xp leveling come harder or easier than ET?
b0rsuk

Flesh: I've seen one Inflitrator xp reward give Silent Footsteps, and ... suddenly I stopped hearing footsteps.
It also looks like one of Battle Sense rewards is still +15 hp. Some Soldiers have 120 hp, others have 135.
I have a question: how good are sniper rifle and railgun in close combat ? You can use W:ET k43/Garand for comparison. From videos it looks like accursed assault rifle/lacerator are quite good at close combat. These weapons may even be strictly better than their ordinary versions.
mortis
06-20-2007, 07:11 PM
They always seem to do good damage, but they're not spectacular in close combat. The are meant for distance combat, naturally. The perform decently, overall.
found this:
Campaign length rewards
Experience Points
Experience points are awarded for successful actions (such as using a tool, a vehicle, hitting a target, staying alive during combat, supplying a team-mate with health or ammunition).
Skill Categories
Points are stored in one of eight categories, dependent on which action leads to the award.
The categories are:
1. GDF Engineer and Strogg Constructor
2. GDF Soldier and Strogg Aggressor
3. GDF Medic and Strogg Technician
4. GDF Field Ops and Strogg Oppressor
5. GDF Covert Ops and Strogg Infiltrator
6. Light Weapons
7. Vehicles
8. Battlesense
Rewards are achieved as a specific category of XP reaches predefined levels. The amount of XP required at each level increases exponentially.
NOTE: For un-lockable rewards you may have to select your upgrade and will not get it until your next respawn.
The Battlesense category rewards players for staying alive and engaging in combat; if the player is still alive at the end of the time period, the player may be awarded experience points in the Battlesense category. If the player dies, this counter is reset, and he must again wait for the set time period after his spawn to receive points. However, the player's combat status is *not* cleared when he dies (only once a bonus is given).
Category Stars
A variety of in-game actions may lead to the accrual of XP, and this XP is stored in different categories. As such, a more simple method for representing campaign-length proficiency is needed for the average player, and perhaps more importantly, to identify when they will achieve their next reward.
Skill Stars achieve this goal by identifying when a player has reached a preset value of XP in a skill category. The amount of XP required to ‘level up’ in each category increases exponentially with each level:
For Classes and Vehicles:
* 1 star = 15 XP
* 2 stars = 30 XP
* 3 stars = 60 XP
* 4 stars = 120 XP
For Battlesense and Light Weapons:
* 1 star = 10 XP
* 2 stars = 20 XP
* 3 stars = 40 XP
* 4 stars = 80 XP
Furthermore, since the rewards for the class-specific categories (Engineer or Medic for example) are only of relevance when playing that specific class, only four categories are ever really relevant to play; a player playing Engineer, need only be concerned with his current levels in Engineer, Light Weapons, Vehicles and Battlsense

I saw this in some video, I'm not sure but I think you can lean at shoot at the same time. btw do you have the link to that video you mentioned (infiltrator getting silent footsetps award)?

The enemy indicators are only supposed to appear if the enemy is within a certain distance, and is visible enough.
I don't know what kind of "stealth" you're talking about-- if you're moving along a wall, covered by it, they won't show.
Personally, the most stealth i'll do is covert ops in a uniform. Anything else is a bit silly for the pace of the game.

1. Is it true that Obliterator uses ordinary ammo rather than stroyent ? Does it mean Agressor is stuck with Lightning Pistol forever once Obliterator runs out ?
2. Is Smoke Grenade still in the game ? I don't see it in screenshots, in videos. No one on forums mentions them.
3. How does Pistol/Blaster feel ? Squirrels report blaster has unlimited ammo but overheats after 16 shots (versus 10 ammo clip of Pistol). How does Pistol compare to Blaster ?
4. How does Machine Pistol compare to Ligtning Pistol and Akimbo Pistols ? Is Silenced Machine Pistol a valuable reward ? Just how silent it is ?
5. Do you get XP for the same things as you would in W:ET ? Are there any improvements like reviving engineer gives you more xp if he's needed to complete an objective ? Do you get more XP for killing a Covert Op if he's the class which can complete current objective ?
Do you get xp just for killing or also for damage ? Do you get xp for destroying empty vehicles ?
6. Do Husky and Ikarus have countermeasures ? Considering how hard (supposedly) they are to lock on, it would make them much more annoying... especially Ikarus.

6. As ive seen from some video's i havent realy seen some intense shootouts, how does SD's method to keep players fighting at one place at a time work?
haven't seen this one properply answered yet...
they do it by having these objectives
now you wonder how does that focus it ...
well take BF(dont flame): You capture flags all over the maps in any order... meaning everyone is hanging around different flags so the fights are smaller
with ET:QW using objectives most of the defending and attacking team are somewhere near that objective instead of spread over the entire map... therefore you get a focused battlezone around the area of the objective... that way all you gotta do is walk near the objective for some action:D
