Where is the console?
Ctrl + Alt + ~ will activate the console. Once there, if you wish, "seta com_allowconsole 1" will enable the normal method of opening the console via the tilde. The seta specifies that it should be saved into your config.
My FPS appears to be capped at 30, how can I fix this?
Quick answer: ensure com_unlockfps is set to 1, and com_unlock_maxfps is set to 60 or higher.
Fearog of SD has written up a post about the relevant commands that can be read here (http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2042).
The game crashed and now my gamma is broken, WTF is up with that?
An annoying side effect of most id engines. This can be fixed by relaunching the game with this commandline: +set r_brightness 1 +set r_gamma 1 +crash
which will load up ET:QW, set the gamma, and then, well, crash.
Are there any additional tweaks for FPS?
See this post (http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?p=44681) for "setMachineSpec 0", which will set the graphics to low, and exec a config which contains some commands suitable for low end PCs.
Additionally, r_shadows 0 will provide a significant boost indoors. Due to the nature of the ET:QW engine, this will provide a minimal boost to shadows being cast by the sun.
I have a (really expensive NV card), but I only get (really low) FPS, what's the deal?
NVidia drivers appear to have a problem with Multi Display Performance Mode. This can be resolved by setting it to Single Display Performance Mode. More details can be found here (http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2095)

Hello, The install went well, But when I click on the icon to start game, the screen goes black and then to "not responding". I have disabled the pop up, and turned off user controls on Vista. My other friends that have Vista have no problems. so i believe its a setting on my computer somewhere.any help would be nice, thanks

Instead of reloading the game to fix your gamma you can also use the Gammafix tool;

One thing I did for performance vs quality is after setting machinespec to low I disabled mipmaps of any kind and set filtering to GL_LINEAR. I then turned on detail textures and set the megatexture fade time to 500 instead of 1500 (otherwise it's noticable). I also disabled shadows to get a more steady fps. This gave me a good overall appearance (except some sparklies in the distance) and a much smoother framerate.
If you don't at least change the filtering everything will be very very muddy and horrible to look at, and it makes it hard to recognize things by sight because of the lack of detail.

As far as I understand, this can only be fixed properly by NVidia.

I dont know if this is the right thread to put this in but i didnt want to start a new one for just this. Its not a FPS problem again :P
But when i first installed i had realy low FPS, no higher then 10. My comp is plenty powerfull enough and i lowered the settings to try to help. But the thing that did it in the end was turning off McCaffey firewall. Im now running up to 60 fps. Hope that helps if anyone is haveing the same problem.

If you get various errors like when trying to run ETQW beta and your system specs are at least suitable for minimum requirements, you might consider installing this (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displaylang=en) runtime library.

Ok, now I know this is likely to be attacked as perhaps the worst question ever posted, but here I go: I would like to play the beta....where can I download it???
I looked all over the site, and clicked on the link that says "Play Now, Beta released" (paraphrased), but I got nowhere with it.
Thanks for the help (and even the coming sarcasm:O)

Ok, so I think I got it. I found by a google search that I needed BitTorrent (or something like it) so I am now downloading the beta setup file through BitTorrent. It's gonna take 1.5 hours, so I hope this works.
So assuming im on the right path now, please just disregard my posts...but if i'm still way off then please help :O)

maybe you recoginzed that little button besides your 1st post: EDIT
no need to make a new post for every sentence you write.
maybe read the forum rules first.
and yeah, beta keys were already given out by fileplanet, some websites had competitions, some were given away for free on the etqw#irc, some were for winning, some for press only. your only chance is to find someone to give you his or beg for one at e.g. the ETQW#irc channel, maybe some dev will find pity or search the neverending tubes of the internet for unused, press or competition keys. but I somehow doubt you will find something.
sorry to not be of better help
PS: don't ask, I don't give away MINE !!!!

you shouldn't need to open any ports unless you're having trouble connecting to servers. that being said, if you are having trouble, you should be able to choose which port you want to connect on. if i'm not mistaken, just set "net_port" to the desired port, and open that port on your router/firewall appropriately.
for example, if you have BF2142 and consequently already have port 27900 forwarded, you can reuse that - unless you for some bizarre reason intend to run both at once  - by making sure the port is forwarded on your router, then start up ETQW, drop down your console (as instructed previously), and put in seta net_port 27900. make sure to use seta and not just set, as variables changed with set only maintain the modified value while ETQW is running; when you quit/restart, they'll be reset to their previous value.

they should change the name of this post, it wasnt an open beta, it was closed to users of fileplanet. On top of that fileplanet stated that if you were a paying member you had a better shot at getting a key.

Man ID developers SERIOUSLY needs to fix the Vsync/FPS/netcode issues!
I have a topnotch computer and the Vsync problems/FPS problems are just horrible!
Forget about 60fps(+) with Vsync on, that doesnt work att all!
And what's up with the players interpolation? The netpacket handling behaves just like in CS: Source... bad.
Before people start writing about computer configurations and "firewalls" and what not, all I say is this... Im no novice when dealing with computers, I know my stuff... I've tried everything to solve this issues, but no mather what I do, they just wont go away...
Hopefully when the demo arrives this issues will be solved, if not, good luck with the competitive part/players :S.
I hope this game dont suffer the stupidity like CS:Source... Bad, bad netcode handling in CS:Source... Because to be honest I think this game has alot of potential. I ölike this game alot.

Hello, I have the same problem discussed many times here.
My FPS wont rise above 10, i've tried some different settings and even shutting down my firewalls.
And I believe my hardware should be good enough.
I have a AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512MB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/ 7200 GS(thats what my pc says).
Can someone please tell me if my hardware is indeed good enough and/or what i could do to improve my FPS?

You don't need to open a port if you're not running a server. The net_port setting is a server setting. Clients connect to servers on that port (it's the target-port on the server), but the port they use (source-port on the client) is a random high-port.
Your router/FW will know that the connection to the server is trusted because you initiated it from the inside, no matter which source-port you used. This is done via statefull packet inspection.

I installed ETQW beta2 at QuakeCon & played non-stop for 4 days with absolutely no problems. I was given a beta2 key when leaving QuakeCon... but tonight was the first time I've had time to get my PC set up since I got home.
Hear comes the stupid question (you knew it was coming)So how exactly am I supposed to USE my key??? When I follow the URL listed on the key, fileplanet tells me my PC doesn't match the specs for the beta. But I've never told them my specs... & the game runs great on my PC. What am I missing?
Thanks!

are you sure? back in the day, you'd use net_port on Quake 3 to specify the client's receiving port. this can be especially important if you have multiple clients playing from behind the same router; if two people with default net_ports tried to connect to a server, the first person to connect would get "unwanted challenge response received" messages; by setting net_port to different values for each user, everyone would be able to connect to whatever server they pleased.

The link on the ticket was just where you download the beta from. You enter the key in-game. Go to "Play Online", then "Create Account" and make sure you create an online account. Once you do so, it will prompt you for your key - enter it there.
Hope that helps :)

usually this shouldn't be a problem since most routers use NAT (http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Address_Translation) ( (over-) simplified: local addresses/ports for outgoing and incoming are properly rewritten/changed).
AFAIK the new protocol was extended by an ID field (don't remember the exact name) which makes every connection attempt unique. i guess it's up to the (game) client to retry with a different source port if the ID of the response doesn't match the sent one!?
