Now I know this is only the public beta and there is much work left to be done but I just wanted to post my feelings about this game from playing all night long.

Pros:
1. First off I feel the game runs really well on my system. My computer specs: 1gb of ram, amd 3200+, windows XP, and ati 9800 pro.

2. The game copies the original ET game play down to every detail and nothing is left out.

3. The Support classes, that can call down arty strikes and what not, have really nice effects.

4. The Strogg Icarus owns.

5. Game play is overall fun.

Cons:
1. Sniper classes for Strogg and GDF deal weak damage and seems to be over all very inaccurate when firing their scoped weapons.

2. The Strogg Flying Tormentor is almost impossible to drive with its current setup of controls. (We do not need another game that requires a joystick for flying Vehicles IMO.)

3. All Vehicles leave much to be desired. It seems it would be better and easier to drive them in third person mode instead of first person mode (which has a very limited viewing window).

Bugs:
1. The Strogg Icarus sometimes jumps higher than it should.

2. "The Hammer" sometimes does not display an effect when firing nor does it a display an effect when the missile hits the target.

You can switch views to third person with the vehicles. I dunno what the default key is, just go into the controls menu and find it.

hmm the cons listed don't seem to be cons at all:
1. i hate snipers. good to hear they're kinda gimped
2. just seems to show the lack of ETQW flying experience of the OP (i hope you're not talking about BF2 when saying 'another', in which i had no need for a joystick)

Yeah excuse me for not knowing all the controls by heart when the beta has only been out for a day or so.

Don't react to nub comments, your first reactions are important. People aren't going to always agree with you, but that's why it's just an opinion.

Nobody is going to be Mario Andretti or Chuck Yaeger during their first 24 hours in the game. :) I can assure you that the tormentor can be flown, and used to devastate the enemy. The vehicles require some practice to master. This is a good thing as it gives player a skill to hone, and a good pilot can really boost his team. Of course, I'm going to be camping near your spawn waiting to take you out with a rocket launcher, but that's another issue.

The innacuracy and buggy vehicle motion at times is due to known bugs that are rumored to fixed or nearly fixed now, but were not fixed at time the open beta was compiled.

Try using shift to boost the tormentor forward a bit.
The left control key also does 'stuff'. Air brake I think.

Glad you posted that Jask. I also have a 9800 pro currently and was going to install the game on my wife's computer which has a Nvidia 7600 GT. Maybe I'll try it on my computer first since I don't want to move my mouse and crap over. Honestly, there just hasn't been a game to come out that has necessitated an upgrade.
But I have a 8800 GTX all picked out ;)

Are the joystickers going to have a significant advantage over the keyboard-and-mouse flyers?

"1. Sniper classes for Strogg and GDF deal weak damage and seems to be over all very inaccurate when firing their scoped weapons."

GOOD!!

If I recall correctly, the GDF Covert Ops needs to hack the enemy's stuff.. which means he needs to get into the field of battle.. and if his sniper rifle is not a guaranteed one shot, one kill.. then they are going to be more prone to joining in the fight.. i hope.

anything that keeps lame-duck sniper kids from sitting and killing one person every 7 minutes is a good thing to me.
