We are aware there are issues with the 1.4 patch and are currently investigating the problem.

UPDATE : A sever-side only hotfix has been released to GSPs that solves the server crash issue.

My Problem is:
My MouseWheel doesn't work properly. Sometimes it doesn't do anything, sometimes it doesn't even do anything. It worked fine before 1.4 + it works in Windows! I've got a Logitech G5 2007 Edition

the game wont even start anymore... i click on the icon appears to load for a second then nothing. im going to try and reinstall the game+patch and see if that works.

Try and run the game. Game loads up to a certain point (not sure where as it closes to fast) bringing up this error

"Fatal Error"

"Wrong Game DLL API version (expected '6' but found '8')."
"You will need to obtain an updated version of this mod."

Im not running any mod so???

Pressing Ok Brings up this. (Cut it down to where the error is).

my issue isnt really a 1.4 issue because it has been there since 1.2

when im ingame my screen freezes after about 1 or 2 seconds but i still hear sound etc. only way i can play this game if i rename etqw.exe to 1etqw.exe for example

i have a radeon x1950 pro by the way

When I take damage now the game gets all jittery and it seems the damage is split over time, I dont get it all at once :rolleyes:..

When the obliterator is RL it jitters and the sound gets all messed up, I get kicked from servers often and game just seems sheepish

I fixed my gamex86.dll error by copying game000.pk4 from the base folder in the root of c: to the base folder in /My Documents/id software/base. The gamex86 file is inside and stops the mismatch.

Like its says in the error log

Said it on IRC but will say it also here:

When query'ing master server for server, I need to wait untill the query is done untill I can sort by a column (by example: Players or Map). Before Patch 1.4 I could do a sort even while it is updating the server list. Sounds minor problem. Please solve crashes first :D

Anyway, too bad it isn't the roll-out we all had in mind

nvm then. good luck fixing that!

i've had this game since release, but i haven't played it yet :(
when i try to start the game it runs fine, but the screen is a solid bright orange.

Activision said it's because i'm running a 64 bit OS, and that it'll never work.



oh, and 1.4 didn't help. now the game won't even start.

When "r_useThreadedRenderer 2" it's still hanging when I press ESC to the menu. (Not sure if this was supposed to be fixed in 1.4 or not...)

I was getting this error as well after updating to 1.4.

My problem was that I was renamed etqw.exe to etqw_test.exe after installing patch 1.2 as I use an ATI video card. Then when I tried running the shortcut on my desktop which still pointed to the 1.2 renamed .exe it obviously crashed. You might want to double check that you are running the correct 1.4 exe file...

*edit --- although I should say I get dropped back to the title screen pretty much as soon as the match starts anyhow with 1.4

:mad: after playing 5 or 6 minutes (checked on 5 servers) game freezes and return to main menu. In console i have "punkbuster not connected to server".
PB ver is 2.012|A1313. QW 1.2 worked fine. :mad: :mad:

Game crashes when in limbo ... i see glitches in the limbo screen when i move my mouse cursor and then my pc freezes and crashes to desktop when i click strogg or gdf and try to join... everything ran fine before.

Win xp sp 2, ati x1900gt, cat 7.7 (worked absolutely fine with 1.2)
ps i had so many misery with patch 1.1, never got it playable and hope it'll be a simple thing this time, fed up with experimenting with drivers and shit instead of playing games!

Anyone?... damn ati support for this game is really shitty


I'll try to rename etqw.exe to etqw_test.exe again to see if it's got to do with some ati specific exe updates and later try cat 7.10 7.11 ... and that's it i hope this time

lol that sucks. i used to run the game on xp 64 so i dont think thats the problem... btw reinstalling the game+patch didn't work.

Everytime I change gfx settings (aa) then select to restart for change to take effect it wipes my profile out and I'm ending up with my mouse not inverted anymore and my player name and clan tag changed to player.

PS: I got ETQW from Steam,that might be the cause.

Just renamed etqw.exe to etqw_test.exe ...did trick again... I thought this should been fixed and tested too.

My ati card sure doesn't like some of those new 'ati specific executable' optimisations since patch1.2 ... i don't really consider this great graphics card support from ati's side.

SO most ATI probs are exectuable related it seems... find the RIGHT .exe(version 1.4), rename it; and then create the desktop shortcut.

Update drivers, lots of ATI issues if you search the forums you should find the best combo of drivers and settings. I believe it's currently 7.10 with Catalyst AI off.

Yeah, the best thing about this game was the Demo. It worked alright before the patches? Why fix something that works?

Anyway, to stay on topic, none of the above fixed my: "Wrong Game DLL API version (expected '6' but found '8')." error.

I downloaded through the ingame updater.

Copying the pak000.pk4 file to the gamex86.dll directory on the C:\ drive changed the error message to:

This error came from not removing the copied pak file after using the re-downloaded patch from the website. Just my screwup.

ok my solution to this was download the xe file form a websire then uninstall the one that the game installed. run the exe and it worked fine after that apart from the server disconnects

I have just installed the 1.4 patch via the games update installer and now just get kicked back to the desktop with the following error.

Wrong game DLL API Version (Expected 8 but found 6) You will need to obtain an updated version of this mod.

Any help please.

i have same connection problem as after 1.2 patch. connection to server lost. this patch was made to solve this problem and what we get ? this same errors as before. that's a shame on SD team. 2 months of work and product still is bugged !

This is the same problem I have, how do i uninstall the .exe file, I am using Steam (whats its location)

Same thing..i DONT have the steam version, it's store bought and i downloaded the patch from filefront. I can't figure out what the problem is, but i just can not get the exe to work. No, i didn't use a shortcut i used the exe in the actual folder for quake wars. I've tried everything. Nice huge screwup on this one. Now my game is unplayable? christ..

I wish someone replied please,it's getting quite frustrating.
The problem is always the same,"wrong game DLL API" bla bla etc.

I downloaded the patch from the links suggested in the general discussion forum.

I tried to rename the .exe's to _test or everything else that was suggested,nothing happened.

Please,any idea?

On lauching only the punk buster A (PnkBstrA.exe) starts. Nothing happens then. No error message, just nothing. I reinstalled it and nothing changed. Tried the renaming and game000 file. Didnt help.
I dont even know where to get debuginfo now...

same as a few others, got the patch off of jolt.co.uk. Installed and now none of the .exe's work. So i cant start the game. Using the boxed version of the game atm.

ok i have a second installation on the PC of my girlfrined. I copied the whole game direcory so i had again 1.2 then I run again the patch exe and now it works

I have not changed something just a second trie

i have not installed the patch yet, good thing too, cuz of the problems, i always make it a point to wait at least a week after the patch comes out. that way the problems can be sorted and fixes are given

When I take damage now the game gets all jittery and it seems the damage is split over time, I dont get it all at once :rolleyes:..

When the obliterator is RL it jitters and the sound gets all messed up, I get kicked from servers often and game just seems sheepish

:eek: HOLY cows is it the first time you experience LAG? Because what you're mentioning are the exact symptoms of it! :eek:

I had the same problem, my guess what it was caused because I used the game's updater to update steam instead of using the steam updater.

So I deinstalled, redownloaded form steam and it was updated, no DLL error any more it gets past "Initializing: Game" now it stops at "Initializing: Scanning Declaration Folders"
With this error.

I'm not sute ETQW has a "News" window, perhaps that is that "You can Talk to your friends while" steam window that pops up at the beginning of a session, it's hardly news it always says the same thing...
Anyway perhaps steam is trying to call it form ETQW server instead of the steam profile server, I'm starting understand what Danny has against steam, even though you get all games for half the price.

I've got a problem with punkbuster.

I can browse the server I SEE punkbuster is ENABLED. And then;

Each time I join a server, the intro movie starts (HUH?) a message pops up with the following:

"Please wait"

"Connecting to 'IP' "

"You need to have punkbuster enabled to join this server"

then I press okay and land in the Main menu.

After that I go check the server browser and indeed, punkbuster is disabled. I enable it and suddenly the server joins as normal, even without the intro screen.

But when I Quit to windows, and start again I get the whole deal all over again. Check if PB is enabled, Join server, Weirdass fast forward intro movie, and again, PB disabled.

The new ingame achievements popups (num grenade kills record, staying alive,... ) sometimes do not disappear after a few seconds (one stayed for several minutes). I suspect it has something to do with being revived (just a guess from memory, no demos).

ok, here is a linux user :D

I've some graphic bugs, wich weren't there before 1.4
Sometimes the fire which comes out of engines etc is replaced by a grey rectangle.
And when I look trough the scope of the rocket launcher or the GDF Sniper I see no player models, no world...only the triangle( if I hover over a Strogg vehicle) (not by sniper) and the scope.
Nothing else.
I will post a screenshot tomorrow evening if the bug is still existing then and if I'm able to make a screenie.

My system:
Ubuntu 7.10 (32 bit)
AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+
Nvidia geforce 7800 gtx
nforce 590 SLI chipset

I hadn't these bugs before 1.4

This is the same problem I have, how do i uninstall the .exe file, I am using Steam (whats its location)

go to CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE programs

click on enemy territory quake wars and click on UNINSTALL. If there isn't a "repair" option then just uninstall the game and install it again with steam but this time dont update using the IN GAME download. go to one of the listed sites to download the patch and apply it.

so i reinstalled it + 1.4 patch.
then hitting the shortcut same problem again.

the problem of mine is when hitting the exe file nothing happens.

Resolved my problem by uninstalling the 1.4 patch downloaded via the ETQW updater and installing a version from FILEPLANET.

1.i get no mouse icon on my screen once i've joined a game so i can't alter settings etc

2. can't even choose class/side because no mouse icon is present.
3. No crosshair appear on the screen at all, changed loads of setting and is a no go.

5.All backgrounds when a map loads are not present (picture of the map etc)
6. I might sell this game, this patch is a very big let down. I've never had so much go wrong with ANY patch for ANY game. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??

It worked for me and 6 of my mates!, its not the folder in my documents either copy the full path. The application data folder is hidden and you need to go into tools folder options 1st to make it visible! by removing the tick from "show hidden files"

My Problem is:
My MouseWheel doesn't work properly. Sometimes it doesn't do anything, sometimes it doesn't even do anything. It worked fine before 1.4 + it works in Windows! I've got a Logitech G5 2007 Edition

1. I have similar problem. Since i have installed patch 1.4 my scroll is unusable - sometimes it works, sometimes it scrolls 2 or 3 "times" at one time.
The sam I think was in 1.1 patch.

My mouse is Razer Diamondback.

2. Is that alright, that everybody in game i see as "private"? Nobody has any corporal, camptains and son on. And there are no distinction in list of players - no ranks at all. Of course I play on ranked servers only.

Start game, connect to the first server, play a little bit, all ok. Leave server (my initiative, or the server crashes), try to connect to another server.

Get the window connecting. Then the game crashes, it restarts and at the intro video it starts connecting to the server i wanted to join prior to the crash. Tries to connect for some time, then I get the notice: "You must have punkbuster enabled to join this server". Then i enter the normal play online menu and see that punkbuster is now disabled. I reenable it, try to join, game chrashes, restarts, says i need punkbuster etc..

I also noticed sound issues. Not the right sounds in the right places. Echoes when firing the minigun in Refinery. Tormentor explodes near me i hear like it exploded 50 km away etc.

Now these commands allow only -2 and i have 20 to 40 FPS in the game...
Everyone who has a better System and for sure more FPS will win in close combat against me....

Bugs found so far:

Rank icons do not show up in player list.
In chat the colour of the first character in my clan tag is overidden by colour of message (yellow for team chat, etc.) (I have tag before name).
Got a defaulted localized string when I joined a server and the match ended before I got a chance to join a team:

Update drivers, lots of ATI issues if you search the forums you should find the best combo of drivers and settings. I believe it's currently 7.10 with Catalyst AI off.

7.12 with Catalyst AI OFF is also working fine. I get better performance now than what I did with 7.10's.

Just installed the patch on Windows XP x86. Could no longer start the game. Tried completely reinstalling and reapplying the patch, but to no effect. The game just doesn't start. No error message. Nothing. :mad:

Since I have a dual boot system with Ubuntu Linux (7.10) I tried patching there and it works like a charm. Played a couple of mins on a server for testing. Performance seems to have increased too. :dance:

Still I'd like to see the problems on Windows fixed, as I can't fully use my mouse and keyboard under Linux.

After installing the 1.4 patch (torrent download), the game no longer starts. No errors displayed, nothing in the app log or system log either.

Tried re-installing from scratch and applying the 1.4 patch, didn't help.

I guess this is exactly the kind of quality assurance that stopped the patch from being released before christmas, and had us waiting for a month ?

Got to love the equation of spending several painful hours in a job that I hate, so I can buy crappy software that doesn't work.

you do not need the dvd to play the game... for the not starting issue please search the forums.

Re-installing the game from DVD and applying the patch unfortunately yielded the same result.

Same here, nothing start with 1.4, reinstalled a lot , 1.0 work great (ia game only) but can't log on account, say to update, updating and nothing start, tryed 4 times and downloaded others patchs on differents websites, differents nvidia drivers nothing, nothing. Don't see executable when clicking on it in taskmanager, even a few second. Older version seems to work great like before when i try with bot before updating, after update it doesn't start at all.Cleaned registry after uninstall, purged old Etqw files everywhere on hd before reinstall and nothing more new.

Windows 2003 server up to date.
169.21 wdm nvidia drivers (tried others too).

you guys bought it from steam?(there is a topic about the steam issue)... If not try going to the programfiles/idsoftware/enemterritory:quakewars folder copy the et:qw.exe and replace the one on your desktop with the one from the et:qw folder.. If you are still having this issue then do what I did when the 1.2 came out. Install the game to the primary C: Drive as It was not giving me errors and would not start when I installed to my gaming drive.

strange, my post disappeared...

I didn't encounter the "serverside crash" many people seem to have problems with. Manually updated PB, used Patch 1.0 to 1.4 on a 1.2 and played on several different servers.

New Issues with 1.4:

- No ranks shown.

- No passenger list in a Vehicle.

- Still have disconnects on mapchange, but prior to 1.4 I still had my XP and Rewards when I rejoined immediately (if the slots weren't full by then). This is no longer the case, I have 0 XP and no rewards when I rejoin the campaign.

Server2003 R2 fully up-to-date.
After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.4 game does not start at all. There even no etqw.exe process appears in the taskmanager. :/
As i understand - reinstalling the game will not help. Great.
Is there any workaround or ETA to fix this issue?

had problems after downloading 1.4 game would not load, was about to uninstall when saw readme file for 1.4 under known problems it said bullgard and such may cause launch problems, I uninstaled Macafee ( somthing I was going to do as I wanted Kasperski(sp)) retried and the game worked fine, I'm sure dissabling or reinstalling Macafee would have had the same results. Hope this helps

Since Patch v1.4 I have an annoying mouse-wheel problem.

While trying to switch weapons/tools some of the items are skipped, usually it skips 1 item and jumps to the next/previous one.
I have to do 3-4 retries to get the right item selected.
This is very annoying, since it means life or death in a quick battle.

I've tried to lower the wheel-sensitivity in ETQW and in mouse-driver settings but nothing helped.

The mouse-wheel was working fine in all previous ETQW versions.

Steps I have taken;
1) Reinstalled the game
2) Downloaded patch from a website instead of updater
3) Disabled nod32
4) I have another system with the same specs as this one minus SLI, and the patch worked fine on that comp.

I'm also having the mousewheel issue, using a Logitech MX510. It seems to randomly move 0,1 or 2 places on the weapon and chat menus.

I've noticed the system cursor appears in loading screens now too.

Mouse input in general feels more sluggish and erratic, although I could have just had a run of bad servers.

I was just playing on Salvage at "The Rock /\ Ranked Server"
when all of a sudden i decided to change my mouse sensitivity
during the wait time after i got killed. I come back to the game"
and now as im playing and i hear the intro music until the end of the match!!
It kinda distracted me a bit, i wonder bc this hasnt occured before 1.4!!!

besides that i like the new release, it run good and my old ati x300 graphics card
is running it better than any other version, thanks for the help

Well, for me at least :)

I had installed the winxp sp3 release candidate, which worked fine with etqw 1.2. It seems to be causing the problem though...

After uninstalling sp3 the game worked perfectly. Anyone else having the no-start issue after 1.4, with xp sp3 installed, should remove the service pack.

well right after installing the patch i joined up to a server, diggin the new stats at the server screen and the hot list, until i joined the server. First thing i noticed was my FPS was real low about 13fps compared to the 55fps i had with 1.2 with the same settings. Second thing i noticed was my CPU temp was 74ºC which is usually 63~C, and the third came about 2 minutes into a very choppy game, my computer shut off. I'm not sure why at the moment i'm going to check event viewer, if i yield any results i will post a follow up but as of now i am scared to even try again as i just paid about 1000$ USD to put this machine together not even a month ago. I ask anyone with similar experiences pm me just so i know its not just me :)




EDIT~ After the unexpected "reboot", the game seems to be running fine aside from the few servers with 0 people that give errors on connect, the others seem to work fine and my fps is about 60~ fps now so i even see a gain there.

Well, for me at least :)

I had installed the winxp sp3 release candidate, which worked fine with etqw 1.2. It seems to be causing the problem though...

After uninstalling sp3 the game worked perfectly. Anyone else having the no-start issue after 1.4, with xp sp3 installed, should remove the service pack.

Had winxp sp3 and my not being able to enter the game was fixed by uninstalling sp3. BUT :dance:

Now I cant join any server. Hit to join, and just waiting and waiting... empty servers too... damn :eek:

Bugs I've noticed so far:
- No ranks ingame anymore (maybe a plus maybe not).
- Personal best is not kept over maps/campaign (might be intentional but then might as well take it out).
- Since I surpassed the accomplishments for SupCom, my title in Persistent Stats has been ###### bFunk. With the 1.4 patch this has gone on to also reflect into the overview at the end of the map.
- No next achievement at end of map (might be because I am already SupCom), but there are still shields ...

I am also suffering from the mouse wheel problem. Rotating one notch used to move the selector one space. It's like the wheel of misfortune now. Rotate one notch and I don't know where it's going to land. Very frustrating in the heat of battle. Or even just to use the chat menu.

Since Patch v1.4 I have an annoying mouse-wheel problem.

While trying to switch weapons/tools some of the items are skipped, usually it skips 1 item and jumps to the next/previous one.
I have to do 3-4 retries to get the right item selected.
This is very annoying, since it means life or death in a quick battle.

I've tried to lower the wheel-sensitivity in ETQW and in mouse-driver settings but nothing helped.

The mouse-wheel was working fine in all previous ETQW versions.
Model: MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0

I have this same issue. With MS Sidewinder mouse and Logitech MX518. I can't play this game without the wheel :/

Bumping the Mouse wheel issue as well. The game is basically unplayable for a fast scroll wheel junkie like myself. Moving the mouse one logical tick leads to 0-2 movements of my weapons. There's no rhyme or reason behind the ticks.

I also crashed out the first time I tried to connect to an (unpatched?) server on the hot list. Could the two be related, or just an accident?

FYI: Before patch everything was working flawlessly.

How did you get it to uninstall ? I am using Add/Remove programs to do it. Seemed reasonable. When I try to uninstall it I get a error because "Bosnian is selected as the language for standards and formats.... This language is not suported.... please see readmesp.htm to select a different language." I tried to google the error but found nothing.

Just wondering if you came to that error or if anyone knows how to get around this ?


Edit: Well I found a work around, I would put a script I used to uninstall the SP3 going around this error but your machine will lock up like mine did (maybe). And you'll be going into safe mode and doing a system restore to get back to SP3 and go back to lightly bashing my head instead. If you don't get an error like some users did, go ahead. Perhaps it works on some versions of RC1 SP3. I don't know, its late. Good luck. I just hope I log on and theres some reasonable fix tomarrow.

Tried the patch on a Window$ system and the game will not even start, on my Kubuntu box at least the game loads but I'm still getting crappy performance I must say.
Going back to W:ET at least I will not have to struggle for hours searching in the forums to start the stupid game. This copy of Quake Wars is going to the garbage can for what I care, what a waste of my money.
My system runs F.E.A.R. perfectly with a frame rate per second above 100, why the hell this game can't just do the same???
This situation went beyond frustration and dissapointment

I also have mouse wheel problems, it keeps doing 2 "wheel clicks" when I only do one, this makes the scrollwheel useless, especially in the anansi/tormentor. Only when I scroll real fast it sometimes does 1 or 3 clicks (don't know) instead of 2.

I am using a Logitech MX510 mouse with the SetPoint 4.00.126 drivers.

Logged onto a ranked server with 1 person on it and fired up the performance graphs and BOTH cpu_0 and cpu_1 were fired up working at ~90% instead of cpu_0 at 13% and cpu_1 at 90% woohoooo! My setting was r_useThreadedRenderer 2 but soon as I put it to '1' cpu_0 dropped to 13% from 90% and cpu_1 stayed 90%, just like in patch 1.2 When I checked the console there were a gazillion SMP warnings and "Unkown Error"s until I logged off and checked a different server. Didn't mess with the ThreadedRenderer and didn't get any SMP warnings but cpu_0 remained at 13%.

Nothing I did after that returned cpu_0 to 90%. Logged off the game, tried different servers, settings blah blah. Wondering if something was saved to etqw****.cfg or similar not allowing me to get it back.

Other than that game is much smoother and my FPS increased 30-300% depending on the map (45-130). Not sure why but I'll take it!

I installed 1.4 using ETQW updater on my Win XP sp3 release candidate PC and now ETQW will not start. I tried uninstalling 1.4 and installed from a 1.4 downloaded patch with same exact results. Game will not start when you click exe or icon.

Checked Event viewer and this is the error that was logged for the attempted startup:

I'm using Debian GNU/Linux SMP PREEMPT 1000 Mhz on a P4 3.2 Oced to 3.5, 2G Ram and A Nvidia 7600GT Agp (yes, its getting old, i don't care :) ).
The 1.4 works great for me, i have the same performance if not better using the alternative executable with ThreadedRenderer, there are only two things, well maybe just one, i still cant access the console with my PT keyboard, i always have to change the keyboard layout via a script, the other thing is t that the game restarts when selecting a hot server ( in the same way that Q4 does when starting a multiplayer game so i guess this is normal).
Installation went great and the game started normally, connecting to servers also works great.:D
Thank you SD and ID for a great job, please keep up the good work an a special thanks to TIMMO and his team for is great work on the Linux version of the game.
I'm sorry if there are some of you having issues with the patch, please give some time to the guys so they can sorted out, they always do, so don't be so hard on them! ;)

ps: If there is a tread for discussing the Linux 1.4 patch, please point it to me, thanks.

Well, I started up the game and found it needed to Update, saw that it was going to take an hour and logged off and went to FileFront. I downloaded the patch from File Front and it installed requiring MORE swap memory than what it said it required. Now the game will not start at all. I try launching it with the icon and the mouse goes hour glass and stops a few seconds later. I even tried launching the game through XFire, same result. I'd post a log for it, but I couldn't find where it's stored on the computer.

"The Rock" server (plug: one of the best ranked servers(#4) btw ip is 74.86.136.211:27733 )
is that the rank stats show up at the end of the match! I know its a lil crazy but i think im positive about this one (SD dev friends correct me if im wrong).
Forker at the end of the match try to notice it! Things are gonna be a lil wierd for the next few days,lots of crazy stuff im hearing in the voip.

i am using the steam version of the game (german) on windows xp.

- the mousewheel problem. sometimes it jumps 2 or more weapons/items and sometimes nothing happens. its like a packetloss. i am using razor deathadder. so it seems it is not a vendor- or driver-specific problem since other users with ms- or logitech-mouse have the same problem. i hope someone has found a workaround/quickfix. this is really anoying.

- also it seems that the sensitivity has changed. i played with "3" on 1.2, but for 1.4 i need to use "6" or greater (its not fine tuned yet).

- i also had the api dll problem, but this fix works for me: uninstalling the 1.4 patch, rebooting and then reinstalling the 1.4 patch.

- the game says i do not have pb enabled so i was not able to connect to the most server. but this was not true, it was enabled. fix: deleting the whole config directorys and reconfigure everything from the default. since i use a autoexec.cfg which include most of my changes it was not so much work.

- another problem with the profile which is choosen by the game on startup. because of the pb problem i had to completly rebuild my config from the beginning. as i did this and started the game, it asked me for the startup-profile. so i choosed my profile and clicked that "always use this profile" button. then i did some changes in the graphic menu which requires a restart of the game. i said "yes" to the popup which asks for the restart. as the game restarts mostly all changes i did were deleted. fix: say "no" to the automatic restart popup and quit the game normaly, the changes are saved then normally.

on thing to the "ranks" problem: i think this is not a bug, its a feature :-) not to display the ranks of the player on the server is a good thing so player can not choose the team which they are joining only by looking at the ranks of the player inside that team. i think this results in more even teams.

I also think that not displaying the ranks during the match is a good thing. It's not like people should seriously need to display their rank, just so people can see how uber leet they are. And it should reduce whining about stacked teams.

On the topic of team balance, I'm not sure I agree with this "Join the other team and get 10XP for free!" thing. Sounds like a penis enlargement spam. I still believe it must be some kind of joke, since I haven't actually come across it yet. Surely there must be some better way of balancing teams, without resorting to bribery.

Controversy aside, I'll try uninstalling XP SP3 RC1 later, as someone mentioned it fixes the "game doesn't start" problem, which I am experiencing. Has anyone else had any success with this solution?

Still cannot play ETQW on Mandriva 2008.0 with 2.6.22.12-desktop-1mdv kernel, and AMD/ATI 8.44.3 drivers for my Radeon X800Pro. When I had 1.2 patch, I could enter the menus and even join a server, but the game crashed few seconds after that leaving my system hanging - "hard" reboot was the only solution for this. Now on 1.4 the game doesn't even start, it hangs at Loading Game: Load UI.... I did ./etqw > file.txt in console and below is the output, but as far as I can tell there's nothing in it.

downgrading to sp2 is not really a option since i did not select the "archive" option when upgrading from sp2. Is my only option to completely reinstall windows and all my games and restore everything? that is unexceptable !

I have mouse wheel problem, if using to select a weapon/tool or deployable it skips some of the selections and can take quite a while to select what you actually want. Pre 1.4 its always been fine.

When playing online game kicks me to desktop never did with 1.2 It has only done this 3 times to me with no warning. I don't know if this fixed it but i did reboot my computer and it seems to be working. Only played for about 3 hours so ill let you know if it does it any more.

tried running in compatibility mode, re-installing .. have not tried running this in 2003 server sp1, or a non-R2 version of 2003 server

has anyone got a working copy on 2003 server?
Well I can say the following.
On 1.2 my Steam Version of ETQW would not load with an application error but the Standalone Version worked. This was on XP64 on Vista64 both worked
On 1.4 Steam Version is working but Standalone ist not working after the Patch this is on XP64 on Vista 64 both are working.

With 1.4 on ETQW Standalone I click on the Exe and it is not starting. I think that this is a 2003Server Problem as Xp64 has a 2003 core. I also tried all the compatibility modes. An another special Featur is the "fu**edup" MSI-Installer. When i patched my Standalone Version this crappy thing told me I already patched my Game und the only option was "ok" nothing like reinstall or uninstall or anything else,to uninstall it i had to use system restore (xp64)

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention right now you get "monsterlags" and megaframedrops on places where before everything ran smootly. On only shooter which is not running smoothly is crap.
Therefore "welldone" for this patching to get it worse


For all those that have this gamex86.dll issue. Maybe you could delete the old one from your profile and start etded.exe. I saw that after that the dll was copied to the right place

Hi .. I am having the same problem since 1.4 was installed. Game crashes on loading up ... and get the message below:

I have tried copying game000.pk4 into the directory. I am currently downloading the patch again from filefront and will try and re0install. But, does anyone have any other suggestions!?!?!?!?!

i have dwnl 1.4 patch and he says not enough diskspace c i g0t 1.4g free,but my game is on dik h got 77g there now i cant play online anymore help me pls

You need to have at least 900++ MB free on your Windows-Partition to be able to install the patch, because the installer extracts a lot of content to the Windows-Installer directory....

Too bad that nearly all new games and applications are using this method lately.
I would also prefer the extraction to a custom location, since not every user has so much free space to waste on his C:\Windows drive.

I noticed that if I use Rocket Artillery on a deployable (didn't test it with Oppressor, just Field Ops) and it's destroyed, I can't redirect rockets after that, even if there are 2-3 left. Thanks to that I got at least 4 teamkills on the Island map -.-

The same thing - exe is even doesn't load. So the problem is definately with exe file, probably it's compilled wrong? Dunno.

Allright so,I'll post again in the vain hope to get support.
I am experiencing the already-mentioned problem "wrong game DLL API" etc.

After an unsuccessful series of tries,such as:

1. Renaming the etqw.exe
2.Launching the game from the C:\\ folder
3.Copying the .dll file in the suggested folder
4.Deleting the .dll file from the suggested folder,as suggested in the link posted by "Cygnus"
5.Downloading the patch not from Steam but from the suggested links Moderators posted in the 1.4 patch general discussion thread (I DL'd something like 4-5 of them,none of these working)
6.Installing new drivers for my Nvidia graph. s.
7.Begging the pc to freaking launch the damn game
8.Kicking the pc
9.Swearing
10.See above

i've disinstalled ETQW and now reinstalling it from Steam,and I'm going to try again to install this so-called patch (am I the only one finding this hilarious,a thing supposed to solve problems is just causing lots of them).

Do you think it's going to work?

When using the rocket launcher the guy turns the rocket launcher over down to the left, BLOCKING THE VIEW ALL THE TIME. omg he has to push the red button all the time ?!?

1. Remove the extra time it takes to reload a rocket by removing the red button.
2. When he pushes the button he puts the rocket launcher right over the middle of the screen which makes you not being able to watch everything going on. If you would just use the launcher now and then then it would maybe be fine but when it is your prime weapon then it gets really really really really and really really annoying, not being able to see what happens because he has to push a red button, which is just stupid.
3. When getting locket on by a ie anti personal turret: its not really needed to hear a screaming "pip" warning all the time because you are getting shoot at. Why not be stupid enough to put in warnings when normal soldiers are aiming at you so I can take one step to the left or right so they will miss? Seriously the big text and the very annoying sound was not needed by anyone.

When you fix things that aren't broken, thats when people do not want to play your game anyone so often, which is not good since almost no one plays this game anyways because no on knows its out there or getting annoyed as hell on the minor changes you did to almost everything in the game.

MasterMind, I had the exact same problem. I started ETQW (1.2) and refused to upgrade, then I left-clicked the 'Play Online' button. I immediately received an error saying 'Cancelled' or 'Connection Cancelled' or something along those lines. I restarted ETQW, same thing. I restarted my computer, same thing. This time instead of restarting though I went into Options and select the 'Check for Updates' option, I installed the patch and then (without restarting ETQW or my computer although if I remember correctly it forces ETQW to restart) I was able to select the 'Play Online' option. I didn't want to upgrade to the new patch as I felt that there were too many problems to justify it, unfortunately I wasn't given the option. Not sure if this was intentional on SD's part, but I doubt it since I have heard of all sorts of people that report they were able to connect fine with 1.2.

After reading Cloman's post, it sounds like it was intentional. Then I am confused because I thought I saw posts about people refusing to upgrade and it sounded like they were still able to play.

thats what i thought!, i thought i saw posts about being able to connect and decided to try, but it did not work, btw i did not install the patch.... i was sleeping at the time:cool:

good thing too, i'd rather wait for the fixes then take my chance.. even though my comp is as normal as anything can get... not sp3, no ati card (sorry ati), only an nvidia geforce 7800 gs agp card and a pentuim 4 3.4 ghz computer...:)

Does anyone know if or where there's an official thread used by the developers to give update on the v1.4 patch issues. I'm reading all the posts but ultimately I'd like a single place to check for info from developers themselves. For what its worth what I recommend is a specific sticky by the dev team with updates and at the end of every update a date and time of when the next update will be, then I don't have to keep checking every 5 minutes

I'm just winding myself up here because I had plans this evening with friends to play and I'm checking these forums more than my work email. I just want to know officially whats happening and some form of timescales.

Being in IT one of the the first rules of customer support is give your users updates and set expectations. I'm pulling my hair out here and I'm not sure if I'm even checking the right thread (although I do believe that I shouldn't have to try and filter through all our posts to find the official posts I might need, no matter how useful the posts are).

Any links would be greatly appreciated.

I have the mouse wheel skipping problem as well - with a razer diamondback on xp64, using the latest drivers from razers site (reinstalled the whole os a day or two ago as well).

I can work around the menu items by using keys, but cant work out how to select the middle deployable with the keyboard...

UPDATE : A sever-side only hotfix has been released that solves the server crash issue. Clients need not download anything to fix this.

And where can we find it, especially the linux build? It's not in the news, on the bt tracker or in the server admin boards.

Removing Windows XP SP3 RC1 solves the problem of ETQW just not starting! Thanks to the guys who suggested it.

For all of those who don't know how to uninstall SP3, here's a quick quide:


1. Go to Control Panel and open the "Add or remove programs" tool

2. Scroll down the list to where it says "Windows Service Pack 3"

3. Select it and click "Remove" (or "uninstall" or whatever)

4. Wait for the uninstaller to finish, then restart

5. Start ETQW and be happy, like me. :D

The bad:

Don't know if it's bug, but after the patch 1.4, the game is unable to execute the autoexec.cfg (\My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\base) in order to improve visual quality of the vehicles.

They just look like the same ones after the patch 1.2, however using seta image_picMip "2" solve me the problem before, but with the new patch 1.4 it doesn't change anything. :confused:

The thing is, apparently only the vehicles suffer this graphical degradation comparing with other objects indoors or outdoors.

The pic attached shows that, the Husky is closer then the deployable, however it looks washed compared to the artillery. The most noticeable fact is that the Bump Mapping isn't operating at all in the vehicles.

The Good:

-It's not required anymore the renaiming of the "etqw.exe" (ATI 1950 PRO AGP with Catalyst 7.7)
-The net performance did improve, the lag isn't severe while in close combat.
-Probably more, but I didn't notice yet.

lusitania your autoexec.cfg has to be in the etqw/sdnet/yourname/base
so it gets loaded first , if u have it in the normal base folder it got loaded somewhere inbetween

I am not experiencing the littany of issues most have reported, but I have found a decent GDF exploit in the game with the new patch, along with a couple minor nuances.

The exploit is with the MCP modification.... You can "prarie dog" while the vehicle is disabled and do FAR too much damage to the enemy with it. While disabled, you can sit inside all safe and secure against tanks and turrets. But you can keep popping to the minigun position for quick burst attacks against the Strogg vehicles, deployables & people. I even took out 2 tanks by timing their firing of their main gun and then ducking back down to safety when they can shoot again. So essentially you have an almost indestructable attack method that can clear their defenses.

A follow-up issue on this is that the bots will stupidly attack the disabled MCP almost exclusively if you are inside it which will allow the GDF team to sweep away the bots on the Strogg side quite easily. So this is a minor exploit if you have bots in the game.

I think the MCP when disabled should kick out the players in it when disabled and you can only re-enter it if it is moveable again, or make it that no weapons work on it at all when disabled and the bots won't attack it when disabled if a player is camping inside.

Minor issues:

Icarus - I am not sure what "more forgiving lock-on" for Icarus means, but if that means that GDF soldiers with rocket launchers can lock onto them much easier, then that almost makes the Icarus useless :confused:. Previously the GDF rocketeers had NO problem locking onto me and I am one of the better Icarus pilots out there. So making it easier to shoot them down just nulifies the Icarus especially now with its reduced Stroybomb launch speed. I would like to see an alternate Stroybomb release method - e.g. ALT-Fire does impact detonation and regular fire does the 3 second time explosion :oppressor:.

The Covert Ops hack speed on objectives (not deployables) seems WAY too fast now. A good team already knows that all they need to do is keep running up and just "touch hack" to beat down any defense; now with the hack speed increased, it just makes objective hacking WAY too easy for a team that has half a clue what to do.

On the objective hacking & building, I thought there was now going to be some sort of progress decay indicator so you could readily see when the current progress was set to expire. I see it flashes and quickly drops away at decay now, but no warning indicator prior. I would say have it either start flashing ~15 seconds prior to decay, or after about 30 seconds of no further progress made in the objective, it just slowly reduces the bar so it is more a gradual decay (about the same as the build/hack speed).

And a last note on objective building and decay (not really 1.4 patch related) - as noted before, the "touch" hacking or building is a very cheap way teams readily sweep defenders aside. I truly think that the building progress and decay timer reset should not be counted until hacking or building for at least 1 second. If you have a team with half a clue, you can walk over the defending team by just needling the build/hack objectives. By requiring just a 1 second delay in that progress and decay timeout reset, you truly balance out the simple needling the defending team to death so quickly - it prevents the simple "touching" to keep alive & make progress.


Overall still a great game!!!! :oppressor:

same issue as Mordenkainen has in his image. noticed that once this happened, persistant stats wouldnt update until i quit the game and restarted.

for people who have problems, yet can fix them by renaming the exe: it is most likely your video card drivers. if not that, then some other 3rd party app that can detect your games.

i tried to patch ETQW through the in-game download, it froze at 99% and then my game would freze every time the opening movie ended. i reinstalled and tried again, only this time i had to spend several hours download all of the patches, same happened, it froze at 88% and game still freezes. After cancelling patch i could no longer log into my account at all, and i cant un-install the game because the un-installer freezes. i have been forced to system restore once today i do not wish to do it again.

is there any way i can get any patches without my game or pc crashing? also is there a way to un-install without using the disk or add/remove programs?

Has there been any word from SD regarding the mouse issues? Have they been able to reproduce the problem?

I've just tested the mouse input offline, and have noticed that there is hitching and stuttering when you turn (moving the mouse at a steady rate left or right). It's like the mouse input is being intermittently throttled by something.

Reading through 10 pages containing repetitive problems and discussions on how wise it is to install SP3-RC is (or can be) quite a pain i.t.a.

2. Yesterday, I was prompted in game to update, and I agreed. I had to wait quite some time, and after the download, the patch-installer was started. I installed it, and wanted to run the game. I use STEAM. Restaring steam, I see that now Steam wants in its turn to update ETQW. which it still does right now, it's taking hours.

is this normal behaviour?

3. I might be spoiled of previous games, but I fear this is the game with the buggiest patches I ever played (or shall I say: "tried to play").

Since the demo things only ever got worse.

There was an issue that was supposed to have been corrected as far as disconnects where concerned that some isp's were seeing the software as peer to peer sharing. But give splash damage their due instead off not being able to log in during peak times we now can. Just a pity you only get 3-4 mins before being disconnected. Well we are obviously on the right track but to say that the problem was a server side hotfix issue that has now been corrected is not true and unfair to customers still having this issue.

3. No crosshair appear on the screen at all, changed loads of setting and is a no go.

When shooting at an enemy covert ops/infiltrator disguised as someone from your team, ETQW gives you the 'enemy hit' hitsound.
It should be the friendly hitsound, it's a little too easy to find disguised enemies right now:p

Ok i have just realized there is almost no point to getting ranks now beacause they are now hidden on the score board is the intentional or just a bug in the 1.4 patch i realy want to show off my ranks but cant beacause this patch is realy buggy. :( :( :(

First, gotta say, the removal of ranks being seen... lame.

I've never been big on the ranked system, frankly. Only play it cause no one seems to play anything but it. That said, what's the point now of even having them if they're going to be hidden? Either ditch ranks totally, or put them back. Can't have it both ways.

Second, found a spelling error. When in final game score board, if you scroll through all the personal best stuff, "Most Vampires" is misspelled - "Most Vamptires" -- I have screenshots I'll post later.

Third, the "personal best" display stuff at the top middle of screen... I tried to disable it, and 98% of the time it does, but the other 2% of time, it appears despite being disabled, and then it STICKS there -- doesn't fade away. So that's just annoying...

Game no longer quits out to desktop. Now all I get is a black screen and I have to ctrl-Alt-del out.

XPSP3 was out before the 1.4 patch
all versions before 1.4 worked with XPSP3

patch 1.4 is not compatible with SP3 - not the other way around, if any software broke the compatibility then it was the 1.4 patch :mad:

....and it's a bit funny that the thing doesn't work, if you change the installation directory 'though it's an option during the installation. Thx to god the patch worked out fine at my wife's computer (with ATI card!), 'cause she wouldn't have had enough of empty harddisc space.

Okay, now on to my issue:

Since 1.4 I experience weird net lag. The netflow is not smooth. When I start on a map, it runs perfectly smooth. When I fight with just some people around its fine.
As soon as there is more stuff going on around me the game starts to feel like its loosing packets. I switched to 640x480, lowest detail, and the problem is not gone.
Feels as if you are "bouncing" back and forth in very small steps -not a fluent movement but an inconsistent movement- moving a bit faster, than slower again, then speeding up again like its resyncing/catching up. It makes the whole feeling of the controls sluggish and "unsmooth" :)

To add to this, which is also possibly net related, I often have trouble entering vehicles. I press the key and nothing happens. Press it again, and again, suddenly I enter.

(usually I press the "enter_vehicle_key" again, because I wasnt expecting it to suddenly work and so I am leaving the vehicle right away, seeing someone else stealing it just in that moment)

My OS is rather fresh. I installed the OS, all drivers, all XP patches and really got nothing extraordinary on my PC. Its clean as an elven arse (All hail Wintrop :) ).

My specs:
ETC Elitegroup KN1 Extreme(Nforce4 Ultra), latest BIOS, latest drivers).
XFX GeForce 8600GT, latest drivers
2x KHX3200AK2 Kingstom 1GB memory modules
1x WD Raptor 74GB
Creative Audigy2 ZS, latest drivers and fixes
Corsair 450 PSU

I assume it has to do with nvidia's buggy nforce4 drivers.

Hope you can reproduce the problem. Really looks like a packetloss issue. Maybe with the nforce4-ultra network interface?

lusitania your autoexec.cfg has to be in the etqw/sdnet/yourname/base
so it gets loaded first , if u have it in the normal base folder it got loaded somewhere inbetween

same issue here... but with ati grafics.
i figured out, that these "lags" nearly disappear on some servers when you disable the threaded renderer and use setting com_unlock_timingmethod "2".
but they appear...
i tried all settings with v-sync and without.

they completly disappear with com_unlockfps "0". but my FPS are dropping from 60 (using v-sync) to stable 30... and thats not enough for me.

specs:
xp pro 32bit
cpu e6600
2gb ram
ati x1950xtx
catalyst 8.1. with tribble buffering, disabled a.i. (i also checked various combinations in the driver settings... also appear in driver 7.10, 7.11 and 7.12)

Hi!

First of all, I have to say the 1.4 patch is gorgeous. I love all the new stuff you packed in it. Great work Splash Damage! :D

Unfortunately I've encountered 3 Bugs, which were non-existent before the upgrade. These are:

-If i change something in the advanced graphic options (texture quality 4example), the game suggests me to restart. If I choose "Yes" to restart it straight away the game restarts, but all the main configurations will be reset to default. For example the player name is reset to "Player", the advanced HUD is tuned off, etc. If I choose "No" and restart myself then all the configurations stay.

-Another new bug for me is when I stay in an area where the enemy deploys airstrike / violator, artillery / plasma mortar, hammer / DMC I get the same radio warning like it was friendly. ("You're in the fire zone, get out of there!" on the GDF side 4xample) It's pretty cool for me, but also pretty unfair for others, because I found this bug to be unique. So far no one else have encountered it who I talked to.

-The third and last bug I've noticed is in the reload animation of the Strogg RL (forgive me I can't remember the name - Oblilelal33ltor or something :) ) It's just not continous, it looks like the the guy's hands are shaking who reloads them. :O

So far that's all I've noticed. I bought and also updated the game on Steam and I'm playing it on a Sony VAIO VGN-FE41S series laptop. Specs are:

# RAM: 2 Gigs

Nonetheless I've had encountered similar problems after getting a high fps setup and afterwards changing it back to high resolution (in Game ver. 1.2). Before patching to 1.4 I had to clean my system completely from any game files and install it on another hard drive. I must confess: the game was never looking better. I 've been suspecting for quite a time that the textures and/or bump-mapping were corrupt after the changes. But I kept on deleting the config files and reinstalled the whole game one time after another. Now I see the whole high quality textures.

I can only give you the advice to throw the game from your system, restart your computer and install it again. Start version 1.0 once then restart your system again and install the 1.4 thing. Your textures should work out fine now, even when you copy the autoexec.cfg in the destination folder ..... sounds like voodoo, but worked out fine here..... :confused: .....

Since the patch, my game will not start at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

I'm using SP3 and the game worked fine before the patch, so as someone mentioned earlier, the problem was caused by the patch. Yes, SP3 is in beta, but every other game works fine on my system. Hopefully, we'll get a patch for the patch soon, otherwise, as much as I'd hate to I'll have to uninstall SP3. I'll give it a few days. Heck, I might even break out Farcry for old times sake.

My Problem is:
My MouseWheel doesn't work properly. Sometimes it doesn't do anything, sometimes it doesn't even do anything. It worked fine before 1.4 + it works in Windows! I've got a Logitech G5 2007 Edition

I agree. This single problem is keeping me from playing. I've tried rebinding the options to other keys, but it doesn't have the same flow and speed.

<sigh>

I know SD is working on these issues, and I appreciate that. Good luck guys. I can't wait to get back into the game.

i ended up removeing service pack 3 release candidate 1, the bad thing is you will lose every program you installed since you installed service pack 3. I did manage to play online everything was fine, the Cyclops seems to have some probleums though, i fired it at a tank and the tank took no damage at all. about 6 shots right on no damage. It did however work later in another map fine. I'll be sure to take note what map it was next time, so i can post about it. Also the cyplops can only damage the mcp down to the yellow? after that no damage? the driver of the mcp won't die. maybe this is a balance change? but i don't like it.

I'm not 100% sure if the following problem is related to the patch, but I'll post it here anyway:

To cut a very long story short, "r_useThreadedRenderer 2" seems to have killed my XP. After setting it in my autoexec.cfg, I started the game but it froze and then BSOD'd the moment I joined a match.

After that I was unable to boot into XP. Safe mode worked and so did Ubuntu, so I was able to rescue all my data. Tried repairing the XP install but it kept freezing up during the repair process, so in the end I ended up spending the better part of yesterday evening completely reinstalling my system instead of enjoying the patch. :(

I've never experienced anything like it. Has anyone else ever come across this problem?

Btw. here are my system specs:


Windows XP SP2 (had to remove SP3 RC1 for 1.04 patch)
ASUS P5N-E SLi motherboard
Intel Core2 Q6600 (overclocked to 2.7ghz, Prime95 stable @55°c for 2 hours)
4GB (4x1) Geil 800Mhz DDR2 RAM
Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2
OCZ GameXtreme 700W PSU


Oh, and on a side note: SP3 RC1 is not beta. It is a release candidate.

I am quite sure, this issue wasn't described in this thread yet, so I'll post it here:

When you sit in a vehicle and kill deployables or vehicles, the amount of kills does NOT get updated in the persistant stats.

XP SP3 RC1 problem solved Well at least for me the game starts again:

I did some research what happens on the start of the software. I saw that it accesses the rsaenh.dll two times and then quit out.

I just compied the rsaenh.dll from my SP2 system over to the ETQW directory (normaly: C:\Program Files\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars) and it worked.

A short explanation.: Programs always take the DLL first that are in their own directory before trying elsewhere.

WORD OF ADVICE: Do NOT download a rsaenh.dll from somewhere on the net. This is a delicate file since it does all the encryption. It is a nice place to start for virus or malware to attach to it. Ask a friend or clanmember who has still SP2 and ask him to send you the c:\system32\rsaenh.dll .

i cant play any more, every server i join hangs after the map has loaded and eventually i get a "disconnected from server: reliable messages overflow".

oh well, ive only been able to actually play it for about 30% of the time i have had the game.

I just installed the 1.4 patch.:o The game used to run fine no hitches.:)
Now the initial load time (map) has increased by about 10 times (not exagerating):rolleyes:
The main problem though is the game now completley crashes, the most I've been able to play for is one map, previous times it crashed within 5 minutes!:eek:
The problem was not crashing to the main server screen though crashing to windows with the "Program not responding" end now, send or dont send crash info to microsoft speal.
This game goes on the shelf until this "patch" is patched. Quite ridiculous.
Pity as I love the game. And was only just starting to get into it.

My persistence in using the autoexec.cfg in the base folder was the mistake, it did work while back with the Patch 1.2, but isn't necessary anymore under Patch 1.4.

I should had read the info regarding the Patch 1.4 more carefully.

Anyway, here's the pic's before and after.

Any ideas would be more than appreciated, I was able to run the game up until 1.4 in both 32 and 64 bit Os' , now it seems like it just refuses to start, a little flash of the hour glass and poof nothing :(

Edit: the game just kept resetting my settings.

Are you running the release candidate of SP3 with xp? This caused the same problem for me - brief startup of the dvd drive, no game loading.

I removed SP3 and everything worked properly. If you do a forum search you'll see that SD is looking into it. Remember though, SP3 is still in a 'beta' stage.

Under WindowsXP 32-bit try tweaking around, personally I use "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:", disable any anti-virus or specific third-party firewall feature that might conflict with the game.

Reset the video car settings to it's defaults ( incase there's any tweak utility ), other idea is to rename the etqw.exe to something else and run it.

In the worst case, re-install the OS/OS's.

have trouble entering vehicles sometimes. It is completely unmanned, you stand in front of it, the "enter vehicle"-Arrow appears, however you dont get in by pressing G, never, unless you change your position a bit. Noticed it with the hog a lot.
Dunno if it is a 1.4 issue, didnt use vehicles frequently before.

Map loading time has increased for me + the game feels stuttery and I have seen a major loss in FPS since 1.4

Playing on Vista 32, computer specs below.

game settings: 1280 x 1024, everything on High, Shadows on, Smooth foliage on, Soft particles off, Vertical Sync off.

4x AA and 8x AF

FPS now: 25 - 40 in certain areas. 60 FPS in most areas though.

Before it was ALWAYS 40 - 60 FPS no matter what went on in-game

All ranks still missing. This is causing a problem as many are using this as a free for all for stacking!!!

Some people thought that it might reduce the tendency but from my experience of about 10 games or so, there is some heavy unnoticed stacking going on that no one can really do anything about. It's boring on the winning side and definately no fun on the losing side either. It's definately spoiling the fun of the new changes.

Any idea when it's going to be fixed??

I definately have a problem scrolling with the mouse through the weapon menu, i could quickly select the tool i needed before getting to the objective (such as a plasma charge) but now it skips every other weapon..

It's freakin' annoying!

I've tried everything I can think of now. Manually updated Punkbuster, lowering the PS/2 report rate, switching antivirus off, toggling threadedrenderer and the frame limiter settings. No joy. :(

Ok, I finally managed to make this game to run. I have a custom XP installation (NO, I'm not a hacker). I just patched the bloody .exe and ran the damn thing with Vista compatibility and the game now is running fine.
In any case that should be fixed, all that issues are KILLING the game. Somebody needs to work overtime to repair the 1.4 patch @ SD, 9 to 5 is not an option at this point.

You trow a EMP grenade on a Strogg Turret. You go up to the turret, and you see the count down from 30 secondes, to 0. If you start hacking the turret to disable it more, and the count down expires (Gets to 0) then your computer will crash, and the server will also crash.

Massive issue!

The servers dont seem to be crashing anymore, but clients definitely are, I NEVER had any previous issue before this patch, now I can go 10 minutes or 2 hours, then it freezes and crash's my system. I see people getting kicked for lost connection too, which I'm sure are having the same issue.

Noticed three 'bugs' by now.

I reinstalled my QW, being rather confused the first time when I logged in to the game. I tried searching for my account using my serial, nothing came up again and again. I did find my account by using the old way to do it though.

And during warm up the 'ready up F3' message sometimes is missing. Again, rather confusing the first time.

I noticed I'm not the only one suddenly having to admin QW for it to retain my settings other than controls.

Texture issues in Volcano map. I'm using Radeon X1600pro with Cat 8.1. All the graphic settings on Low. So far other maps don't have this issue.

yesterday I did play ranked, no problem.
In the evening I did play again (on k-play) and it didn't get my stats... I did not get a single xp and I played more than 2 hours I think...
on review it didn't display the content of the left side correctly, that's why I already feared it woudn't work...

dunno if its been mentioned but i cant join spectator anymore from limbo or admin(ranked server), i am told as admin that the command was successfull but i dont change.
also i never had issues with connection and now im kicked to main menu with connection lost, definately a 1.4 thing as i say i never had this particular prob, even pb has kicked me once again never heard of though the pb will be because of the first issue

I have a problem hope someone can help.
I re-installed twice with the patch from the auto-updater of ETQW and re-installed ETQW using a patch i downloaded from the recommended site that the forum posted. I also tried the winxp SP3 trick with the .dll file importing from system32 to the ETQW directory, (i don't have SP3 just tried to see if it would solve something). In all cases i get in to the game, see a black screen for 30 secs than the game exits to my desktop. The console log shows this, and i have no idea where the problem lies... here is the log

i'm having some trouble with the new catalyst 8.1

on the first one there is a little texture glitch at the very left of the sniperrifle x-hair
on the second one textures where completly missing and returned when i moved a littlebit through the map ,on the next map which is outskirts in this campaign i had no textures at all,hud was showing up but noch ingame gfx ^^
i had to restart the game to fix it

standard settings with trip buffering disabled,Cat AI enabled and etqw.exe NOT renamed =)

Loss of audio every few minutes during gameplay with CONFIG_PREEMPT=y. Doesn't happen in the standard client (tho I didn't test that for very long).

Since 1.4 i frequently get kicked back to the desktop with the following error message:
"Mem_Alloc request for -996589487 bytes failed"

That bug kicks in usually when loading a new map. Sometimes i get that just when freshly connecting to the server, sometimes i can play a few rounds until this happens. It did never happen while playing, only when reloading maps.

This never happened prior to 1.4. I am using Vista Ultimate 64. For the rest of my config, just see the log below.

Here's a new one.

Strogg launch a DMC in Quarry, the target is near the generator. The DMC flies up the skies, and then it falls down. Lots of kills ... but humm, there was no bang. Yes, there was no explosion, no explosion graphics notg even sound, just dead bodyes.

Come to think of it: I played volcano as strogg, did 3 main objectives (blew the wall & bunker, and PARTICIPATED to drone the final objective. Someone else finished it off. I got rewarded (in personal best I think) with 4 objectives done??? I believe it was even on the final scoreboard like that...:confused: I did not hack, did clear that room constantly and did attack the objective downstairs, but never got around to planting.

the game wont even start anymore... i click on the icon appears to load for a second then nothing. im going to try and reinstall the game+patch and see if that works.

I think the message when an arti interceptor has shut down ur art attack is missing, since 1.4...
(I often overlooked it before, so I`m not 100% certain)
