I've heard a ton about megatexture and how great it is...it's plastered in every etqw related article...but what about the sound? I haven't read anything that even relates to sound...will it use eax and hardware specific functions...or will it just be processed though software? battlefield...dod source and other games that use sound extremely well just make the game feel so much better...is there any info about the sound technology in etqw?

I think it supports OpenAL, no?

Tbh, I think it would be very silly for them to have such a good graphics engine and not also have good sound to back it up. Oh btw, will this game support 7.1?

Laronzo. :)

This game will have pre-recorded voice messages (like CS/BF) or is it voip only? I prefer the latter of course, but sometimes it's nice to be able to quickly trigger off a pre-recorded one.

Im not sure, but i belive both would be best, would be pretty annoying with Voice over ip and having no microphone ;)

Also OpenAL supports sorroundsound up to 8.1, but i may have been misinformed.

Hehe, sure is Kloster. Crossing fingers for both options at launch proper then.

If it doesn't support X-Fi, I will cry. That said, all ID's new games do (Doom 3/Quake 4), so we should be good.
Knowing Activision and patches, I believe that if there is no EAX at first, there will be a form of it in a patch eventually.

Why would they use EAX when there is OpenAL that is way better? EAX is old and outdated.

Also OpenAL supports X-Fi 110% ;)

Wolf:ET had exceptional sound. I was actually playing a couple of nights ago and stopped to take in the sounds. I especially liked the distant off sounds like artillery landing somewhere where I could not see.

Sound is very important. SD and ID know that.

Both systems have been implemented.

Any plans for including voice over IP?

Paul Wedgwood: Yeah, VoIP is in already. We have the same kind of 'v' chat we had in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, so you can type letters very quickly and it fills out the whole sentence and sends it as a fast message. We've got the traditional team chat and global chat as well.

I heard a rumour that voip was pulled out due to not enough time to actually make it a worthwhile feature

well considering it was put in over a year ago (judging by the date of that interview) I would think the rumor is false :)

and now that I think about it...it probably does use openal...prey and quake 4 used it...so I don't see why quake wars wouldn't...those games had decent sound :)

Hopefully, they will have ambeince, echo, weapon, terrain, and weather effect sounds of that compared to HLF-2.. or better.. like.. the whole shoot a rocket and it blows a few feet away from you and you hear an amazing echo.. same with bullet fire..
