Quoted for truth. If there are 3 different teams passionate about making a battle-racing mod, it's probably much more likely to succeed if the 3 teams pooled resources and worked towards a common goal.
I'd much rather see one good mod get finished, than 3 good mods never get completed.

I'm still hoping for a straight rally/track racing mod.
When the tools come out I'm making a track map anyway so
should be ok for any race mod. I would make one myself but I'd need some good tutorials (mods for idiots guide).
How hard could it be.:confused:
I dont think it whold be that hard. I mean you may even be able to do it in the map editor, have a couple of triggers placed around the maps that act as check points and people win for getting around all of them the fastest.
Naturaly modding the main game will lead to a more complete racing game and whould be able to award the individual player but really it whouldent be hard to do it in the editor.

After reading the other vehicle type mods websites they have very much different goals that what I want Wheels of War to have.
WoW will be one giant pisstake, really. Its going to be stupid, intentionally, with a large hint of carmageddon about it.
One of the things I am all in favour for is community development, so I will be intending the dev of WoW to be pretty open, with X-monthly releases of the best community-made content to keep the mod fresh and new - even if some of the stuff added is not as polished as some would like. It's all about the fun.

Oh man i can't tell you how many times this has come up when our team has been talking about interesting ideas...there was even ideas like 2142 vs bf2
Doom3 vs. Quake 4 or 2142 vs. GDF and Strogg vs. (the crazy aliens from prey)
so many copyright infringments! SO LITTLE TIME!!! I'm sure there must be something illegal about doing it lol but damn would it be cool.

Yeah ontop of the implementation the games are vastly different between how the players move and generally partake in the festivities of combat. Not that i'll ever even attempt it but you could use the player models and weapons with the damage numbers from each respective game and pit them intially in a force on force death match in the forest...no objectives just killage....whoever wins goes to the losings team ground...IE in a ET:QW vs 2142 say 2142 won the first round (doubt it :D ) then they would go to sewer ET:QW style. Say ET:QW won the first round then the map would push to say Belgrade or Verdun or something bf2142 nature....who knows sure would be a messed up mod but i know i'd play it :D

I'd like to see various ways to throw / use grenades.
Currently we have the over-arm throw.
However, consider the effectivness in some locations of a under-arm roll (less distance but more horizontal movement). For when you come to a low tunnel for example or want to roll it under something.
Also the cannister-kick available in some ET mods.

In a vain attempt to try and keep things a little more focused on the Tribes mod, I've created a site with which I'm hoping people can gather to use it as a central dev hub. All interested parties can also keep track on progress in one place as current information is scattered far and wide :)

Huh, it looks like now the Admiralmod moved to COD4 instead of ETQW?
I'd like to see a Battlestar Galactica mod, with terrestrial maps on different planet types (for example: defend the eye of jupiter site/escape from New Caprica) and aboard ships (for example: stop the cylon infiltrators from detonating the nuke on the Tillium (sp?) fuel ship/protect the transport of a prisoner...)

I am a long time tribes modder, I also plan on doing a tribes type mod for this, I want to learn to code this on a more advanced level. not just edit, past, copy, witch I could still do some thing ok, and will if thats all I can do at first...
This game has already a lot of tribes in it.. engineer, class.
inventory system. cool deployables, and lots of vehicles..

I think you are against so called "packs". Those include changing sounds, textures or other miscellaneous things (as in: "don't affect gameplay immensely").
Mods (including map packs) can go further than that or change the game even into something else. To get an example, look for a Doom 3 mod called "The Dark Mod".

There's an option to filter only 'pure' servers, don't worry, keep your pants on.

That is not what the pure setting is meant to do.
"Pure" means that all clients are forced to use the PK4's on the server and only those pk4's with a matching checksum on the client's side. The server admin can install all the mod packs he want, and all clients are forced to download the files or be kicked from the server.
I think you are confusing "pure" with "vanilla" (the latter is slang for "original" or "unmodified"). You cannot filter vanilla/modified servers. However, ranked servers are supposed to be always running a "vanilla" version of the game to make sure nobody starts stat-padding. It's one of those few advantages of a ranked server base.
Actually I think the new patch (1.2) added a mod filter in the server browser.

sokay i dont mind so much now aslong as they're not crap mods like 'J-Mod' in wolfenstein and more like 'no quater', no quater is amazing because it actually adds better features to the game not just changing a few parts, leave the sound alone and just focus on maybe more weapons and more upgrades, no HUD changes either....basically im just VERY fussy with mods ;)

Seeing as you have posted this in the modding forum for ETQW, surely you need to get a clue that just about everyone in here is at odds with your opinion -- and yes that would include me too :mad:
If you don't want mods, then consider some or all of the following:
1. leave this forum
2. don't play servers with mods
3. stick with ranked servers

Ok, I should have two versions of a "blood mod" out within the next couple days. One ONLY adds blood to the game, and the other will add the blood plus make some tweaks to the weapons for added realism. For example, heavily armored vehicles will no longer be able to be damaged by regular firearms. You'll have to use explosive weapons to damage them.
These first mods are just my first attempts at modding for the game. As I originally hoped, modding for this game is very easy like D3 was. Hopefully in the very near future, I will be able to begin development on my "big" project for this game. Right now I am in the preproduction stages, researching and documenting the project. Here are a few details so that the project can be added to the list.
Mod Title: Forgotten Heroes
Genre: Realistic WWII Total Conversion
Before everyone starts complaining about this being "another WWII title", let me explain some of the details. The main focus on this mod really is not just "converting qw to a wwii setting", but to explore some new gameplay innovations. Really, our mod could have been placed in any setting, I just chose the WWII era because of my personal interest in it. There will be a heavy focus on squad based gameplay, requiring team work to achieve victory. Further gameplay details will be released once production has begun. Though I have not given a lot of info about the gameplay, I can assure everyone that a lot of new ideas are going to be implemented into this project, and the gameplay should feel fresh and intuitive.
As for this being a "realistic" game, a lot of you might also be worried about the pace of it. For many games, "realism" would typically mean very slow paced action. I can assure you all that this will not be the case with Forgotten Heroes. The plan is to find the perfect marriage of realism and cinematic action to keep things as intense as possible without losing the sense of working strategically within a squad. Vehicles will also be done in a way that makes for some intense, but realistic, gameplay.
As stated before, this project is in the preproduction stages. I will have a full "Help Wanted" list up in the near future, outlining all the positions which help will be needed in. However, there are a few areas where some help could be used at the moment, for those interested. These are:
Web Designer: It is definitely NOT too early to have a web page set up for this project.
Concept Artist(s): Unfortunately, I have none of these onboard right now, and they are GREATLY needed in this early stage of the project.
Researcher: Authenticity is one of the key aspects of Forgotten Heroes. I could definitely use some more help in this area. This is also a great role for people who would love to help make a game, but lack necessary computer skills to do so. All that is required here is good researching skills, and ample knowledge of WWII history.

We will have independent "team managers" taking care of team coordination. I am a designer/developer, and that is all. I will seek out team managers in the near future, as well as give this project a much more professional and proper introduction. At that time, application forms will be put up for the remaining positions needed.

Seeing as you have posted this in the modding forum for ETQW, surely you need to get a clue that just about everyone in here is at odds with your opinion -- and yes that would include me too :mad:
If you don't want mods, then consider some or all of the following:
1. leave this forum
2. don't play servers with mods
3. stick with ranked servers
didnt really see my other comment 2 comments above yours did you? it says 'yesss i only play on ranked servers so that solves my problem' or something like that

We are still working on the project. It's just being kept a private until the time is right for a public release. For now, we're only interested in professional grade artists and scripters, there will be openings for other positions later on though.

Hi I'm sorry for any confusion but we are still trying to build Grimey Mod and looking for help. I saw some screenshots of the crysis version, and it looks freakin awesome.
As a big mechwarrior fan, I'd have loved to see that mod in etqw... :o

Yes they first were but then crytek gave them an offer to work on crysis and they switched. I believe the leader now works for Crytek. :O

I have no experience in modding whatsoever, but, I have came up with a mod idea in which maybe someone could do, what if someone made a mod, where there would be a new game mode and new map.
Gamemode: Stroggification
Map: Processing Plant
The idea is, the stroggs have built a new stroggifier, like the one from Quake 4, the GDF have become aware of this, and are now attempting to shut it down, unfortuneatly, lives are limited for GDF. Strogg are capable of capturing marines and putting them in the stroggifier, i.e hurt them and knock them unconcious so they cant move like in normal game except, strogg can go up to em and press use and put them on shoulder, you go back to stroggfier and place them on a bed by pressing use on the bed with marine on your shoulders and off they go, when they in stroggifier, they are turned over to your strogg team.
similar to an infection, the more marines put in stroggifier the more stroggs and less marines, this keeps going on until there are no marines left, or for the GDF to win, they must place an explosive on the stroggifier core to shut the plant down.
and the best bit is is when your a GDF you go through the whole cinematic like you do on Quake 4. and strogg players can see the GDF players being stroggified.
this may take alot of work and a long time to build, but what do you think of my idea, any of you think its worth building?

Q. How will a change class when im in the stroggifier???
A. The stroggifier will only have a default single strogg that you will be stroggified into, once you come out the other end, you die BY the stroggifier, and then forced to change team, you then spawn at the the end of the stroggifier. there you will be able to choose between any of the classes.

A. No, once you have been placed on the bed, your screwed.

A. The remainder of the GDF team are the ones who must shutdown the plant, GDF have one Life if not revived before capture. Strogg have unlimited lives, you die you respawn.

A. Well, heres the specialty, You respawn as a GDF, if captured and strogged, your GDF life is over, you are now one of the strogg! O_O

Q. This is hardly fair, why can't GDF have reinforcements? they will die easily.
A. Not so, GDF have reinforcements but thats ONLY if they die and ARE NOT picked up and stroggified. they respawn regaurding that point.

A. No they won't im afraid, this the ability to talk with tautns and chat will be removed while being carried as well as your radar location, this will be implanted due to realism effect.

A. Right, you kill a strogg and he magically becomes a GDF, NO! it isn't supposed to be fair in that way, its supposed to be an extremely challanging thing for GDF.

A. GDF are the survivors, Strogg are the Mutants/Zombies in Comparison to the infection gametype, this is infection on quake wars with a little destruction added and will be known as:
Mod Name : ETQW : Stroggification Mod

Gametype : Stroggification
Changes are only listed here, everything else will most likely stay intact like artillery and stuff.

the only problem i have with these games is, your team cant win, like you switch teams halfway thro the game. all of a sudden you have to kill they guys that were ya team mates.
i just dont enjoy it.

if on the other hand the Strogg were BOTS (like in Dusk) it could be enjoyable... if you get picked up, all you can do is scream your location to you team (which see it on their radar) & have to free you before they get to the Stroggifier with your paralysed body...
then again.. there's Quake 4 which has the building etc. already, and when a team-mate dies, he's DEAD.. I've had that a couple of times with a medic.. Iwanted to keep him alive.. and loaded that phase 5 times.. but he probably was supposed to die in that stage of the game.. lol
could be fun.. like it's Q4 CO-OP
also, to keep things fair.. when a Strogg is killed, a GDF should spawn.. (like a reinforcement.. otherwise the strogg can just RAMBO their way in cause the GDF have limited ammo & health...
they die, you win, you die, you retry.. ain't fair is it?

its like an infection gametype, no its not quite fair as such towards GDF if its a TDM, but thing is it isnt, its an infection type, and towards the survivors its supposed to be unfair because they gotta survive with oncoming swarms of " zombies " which in this case would be the strogg. :oppressor:
1. GDF are supposed to have limited reinforcements thats the whole idea, with stroggs having unlimited, because stroggs are the supposed " zombies " in comparision to an infection gametype. GDF also have reinforcements as I said but that is only if the GDF players dies and ISNT placed in the stroggifier. therefore he can respawn on the GDF team.
2.Screaming help help! to attract teammates on radar yes fair enough they find yur location, but it would be modded so that when the strogg picks you up your voice commands would be disabled, as you would properly be knocked out, whereas when your on the floor, your moving and somewhat concious.

1. I ill be The Project Leader and Designer of the mod if all goes well, First of all I need a website for the mod, and am currently recruiting people who are determined to help and build and contribute to it, contribution gets reward by beta testing, Its not in development at the moment because I have no coders, and I need coders and mappers too, and would appreciate help. as I said its in at a very early stage and isnt being built yet, but hopefully will be soon.
2. If all goes well im expecting about 6 months of mod work, it will be difficult as im a very busy person, I also have got several things planned for mine and my partners future, as we been moving out together soon. in which may complicate things for the mod at some point but Im sure i'll still be able to continue work.

It sounds like a rather fun idea, however I think on the stroggification side the capturing strogg should pick what their victims class will be by placing them in a seperate stroggifier for each class so they need to think carefully what would be best class at the time. Also the original stroggs should have to pick a class before the start and stick with it all round.

hmmm interesting idea, although I dont think it would be appropriate to restrict classes, maybe if it was using bots but this is real players tbh I dont think class restriction is a good idea, since alot of people would complain and get frustrated with not being able to pick their favourite class.

Well a website is currently being developed and built for the Stroggification mod, this is where all the information will be, I will inform you guys when its complete what the domain name is. :dance:
Also, we have a concept artist so pictures will be coming around in the next 2 weeks, this is mainly to help with the website that is currently in construction.
As of now, our team is very very small, so almost any help would be appreciated, especially in the coding area as we have no coders as of this moment in time, if there is anyone who would be happy to help develop this mod then please say so, also I would be happy to take on more people to help with either concept art or website construction and administration.
the quicker this is done the quicker the coding part of things will come into place, but at the moment, coding isnt our priority, it is to build a site for the mods home.

I'm curious (and I'm not knocking anyone's creative effort here) but has anyone from this forum - or elsewhere for that matter - actually got a fully working mod/custom map up and running or are they all just WIP/ideas?
I keep coming back to ETQW in the hope that something other than vanilla's on the plate but, Alas! there's nothing but vanilla.

More than enough custom maps around mate, just join the Nirvana server and it'll autodownload everything for you, including promod. Here's a list of maps, although it does need an update for the new viomine versions etc I think:

As far as mods go, there isn't much yet. Promod is a mod that allows admins to restrict rulesets for competition, Duskmod is a zombiemod (quite good!), QWTA is a realism mod which will be awesome once the new vehicles etc are functional, core mod is already available and playable. Then there's Wheels of War, a racing Mod which is unfortunately cancelled in further development, but it's available and working as well, and it's good fun once you get used to the car handling. Not sure if there are any servers running it though.
