your doing fine, keep with field op, try getting a feeling for timing and placing the airstrikes/violaters most effective and your xp will go up.
alternatively you can switch the class and build/bomb/hack/repair stuff for xp, best of all if its the objective itself. but when your not totally ignoring your team and go xp whoring for yourself on turrets/vehicles way off the action you might die quite a lot for that...

Vampires/vios tend to get more xp if used properly. A lot of it is level dependent ,on mcp missions destroy the avts blocking the route. On defense missions use arty to suppress troops at a bottleneck. On attack use rocket arty to destroy heavy armor ect.

use whatever artillary type you think is right for the situation
dont use a hammer when an air strike will be just/ more effective
don't stand in the hills waiting for your stuff to recharge, after you fire your stuff go down and help fight

as a fop i rarely use deployables.. and if i do, most of the time its rockets/plasma for anti-vehicle attacks. i spend my time in the fight giving out ammo and tac shields when i can, but mostly dropping airstrikes/violators.
not that my method is the best, but most of the time if im fop the whole map, i get 75-150 fop xp.
if your up in a hill somewhere, your not going to get much xp. especially if theres more then 1 fop on your team (your ability to call in arty reduces the more fops on your team there are). i also never bother being a fop if theres already 2 (or 1 with fewer players). you will have less to attack because the other fops are clearing stuff as well.

Giving out ammo packs doesn't give you much XP at all, it's something like 0.125 XP per pack (I think it's lower than that!).
I [personally] when playing as F-Ops focus on suppression and destroying enemy shit.
My prefered deployables are Plasma Mortar and Artillery Gun.
You also have to know what to use when. You've got a line of AVTs on Valley, what do you do? Call in some Arty or drop a Vampire?
A teammate just planted on the Generator on Salvage, do you call in some fire support or throw a violator?
Learn the pro and cons of each tactic.
Vampire - quick and efficient. Great for taking down alot of deployables in one go. Not that brilliant against infantry, although you may get lucky.
Violator - slower, but deals much more damage than the Vampire. It's great for taking out deployables and killing/suppression of infantry.

Actually ive gotten some nice XP with mostly ammo (on Volcano mostly)...be a front line FO not a hill hugger and switch your mission list to whatever you are about to destroy for the extra 2.
Personally I dont think its bad to play for XP...just be a team player and a good support player and the XP follows anyway...DEFEND THE OBJ...dont go running off 100% of the time...yea you might run up to a hill to call arty but get back to helping out at the line (all those rocket dudes need ammo a lot)
cover the engies back so he can repair etc.
have fun, and look at all the fine tutorials out there...esp GreasedScottsman

dont play for xp
a fop playing for xp is usually a very helpful player.. unlike a flyer back at previous spots hitting the 1 or 2 deployables left, he is attacking the front lines and taking out as much of the enemy as he can.
were talking about raw xp, not stats. playing for stats would mean running behind a RL and tossing ammo every time he shoots his rocket, ignoring your weapons and arty.

For all support classes, the easiest way for me to earn my XP was to be constantly doing something. If you are a support class, you've got to have the mentality to help them team instead of being a hero.Throw ammo packs around the objective, note where your snipers/rocket soldiers (they run out of ammo quickly) Keep track of the missions in your hud, change them to your benefit. As soon as your hear your artillery recharge, find a target and decide whether a long barrage (artillery/rail) or a short strike (rocket, vampire) will do the job.
Most experienced users ive seen, don't use hammers, unless there is a definite mass of deployables and enemies guarding the objective. Personally Ive seen the best results from well placed howitzer or rail artillery behind or in front of the objective but NEVER ON THE OBJECTIVE unless its been fortified to hell and you are attacking.
Make sure your always shooting or supplying or spotting, dont stop till its over.

1. Choose the right fire support for the situation.
Example: The MCP objective on Valley will require the neutralization of many turrets. Most of them will be clustered. Good target for Hammer.
2. Use the command map to get a feel for timing and the axis of enemy approach. Try to destroy enemy reinforcements as they come running in groups.
Example: Covert Ops is hacking the shield generator on Valley. Command map shows a group of newly-spawned Strogg running in. Throw an airstrike marker at them.
3. Learn to properly direct Air and Violator strikes. Also learn to throw them accurately.
Tip: Imagine the letter "T". When you throw the marker, you are at the bottom of the T, and the horizontal line at the top is the direction of the Air/Violator strike.
4. Place your fire support where they are less likely to be destroyed by the enemy. If your fire support is conventional or rocket artillery, they can be blocked by hills and buildings. Careful positioning is important.
Example: Final objective on Outskirts - you may not be able to reach some enemy deployables in the telecom square if you have buildings between your conventional/rocket artillery and the square.
5. Use stealth and patience. Try to keep as close to the frontline as possible but don't overexpose yourself unless it's necessary for the objective. Time taken to travel from spawn to the frontline is time that could be spent destroying enemy assets.
6. If Oppressor, you can use Shield as a distraction. Some naive players will assume an Oppressor is present if they see an orange shield deployed.
7. If Field Ops, don't forget your teammates might need ammo. It won't give you much XP points, but it can help players who don't carry much ammo (eg. medics or soldiers holding a critical location).
8. If you have the scoped AR/Lacerator upgrade, use it to snipe the enemy from long range while your wait for your fire support or Airstrike/Violator to recharge.
9. Use the "Enemy Spotted" vsay to inform your team of enemy units and deployables.
10. Field Ops and Oppressors are strategic classes. Think strategy. Always consider what you can do to make your team's life easier and the enemy's life harder. You'll find there is always something you can do.

Almost every field op/oppressor I see are hiding in the hills tossing arty every few minutes. They are otherwise pointless as a rocket soldier could do their job with no problems.

Not true. Any FOP that is worth his gall can focus on 2 or 3 objectives, while most, if not all soldiers are primarily focused on that 1 specific task of destroying something or trying to take out single turrets with heavy weapons.
More points for taking out players or for taking out deployables?

There are more points for taking out players. I wish it was equal, but alas that is not to be.

Yeah most deployables don't shoot back. Then again most players don't either.
So there isn’t really a point in taking out deployable unless your planning on using vehicles such as the tank and aircraft?

Of course there is a point in taking out deployables using Field Ops assets... if you want Field Ops XP. :p
Personally, I think Field Ops are ripped off. It's twice as easy to get points using a Titan/Cyclops/Anansi/Tormentor, than it is using artillery; and airstrike/violator only gives XP for destruction, not damage. Furthermore, Field Ops get only 0.125 XP per ammo pack used, and no other alternative method of gaining XP than using weapons and ammo packs.

The XP are also rewarded for damaging as in most aspects of the game. The only exception i can think of now are the obective points.
Since 1.4 you get 0.5XP per used ammopack so dropping all you can in a main route are easy earned 2XP and happy medics :)

Thanks for the info, FireWorks.
Someone needs to update the ETQW4Newbies website. :)
I've been using the FieldOps/Oppressor a lot lately, and having a ball with it. :D
