Hey,

Didn't know that, but Supply Crates are usable through walls! This has two advantages. First, it's possible to use crates inside buildings (granade spamming) and second, they don't get destroyed so quickly.

Man I like the one you placed on volcano, that's a cool looking supply crate. The crate on the second phase of ark is also pretty nice. I need to give it a try.

How do you actually make them go through walls?

How do you actually make them go through walls? I guess you should try to drop the marker as near at the wall as possible.

PS: so you can use the crates without touching them? I have got to try that!

you have to get pretty close, which is about the thickness of some walls if the crate is outside and your up against the wall inside.

some places you have to be careful about placing the marker near the wall. an overhang from the roof will cover the marker and prevent the supplies from dropping.

Whats new about this?

We (medics) used this placement behavour since the very beginning of ETQW :)
The only problem is that not many players notice or use supply crates, which are placed in relatively hidden spots.

So? i've never seen someone use them from inside buildings

That's pretty much been my problem. I'll usually throw one in a good spot now, and the other I'll throw somewhere more open so people will actually use it.

Using these box through some walls seems an exploit of the game in my view... I mean, if its real walls, I admit it on the first screenshot, but thru a wall ! comon guyz :p

Ive used them before where they get placed half in a wall, half out...although you cant get into the building to use them inside, it helps keep the crage from getting destroyed a little.

Also, you can drop one inside the lower entrance for the 3rd phase of salvage (the basement of the building the laser blows up, this is helpfull when GDF have to make a push up the staris inside.)

With supply crates in competition now, I think we will be seeing a lot more creative use of them in the future.

remember that they can be destroyed through walls as well. (if they stick out)

Throw the supply crate smoke at the bottom of the ladder in the second floor building in sewer @ the first objective.

The supply crate falls perfectly down through the top hole.

THAT is awesome. much like on refinery where you can drop the supply crate inside the building at the entrance, bottom of the stairs towards the south convertor.

I'll post one up after I get off of work later. I'm on a lunch break, but I know what he's talking about.

Really nice... I post some pics from refinery.. there are also nice spots to place a supply crate.

Does anybody know how to influence the supply crate orientation? Tried this and that but it seems to be random.

I found a way (on Quarry) to force a destruction of an already placed elsewhere supply crate as well as a plane to fly by but drop nothing ;)

Cause usually if the crate marker is in a wrong place, the plane doesn't even appear.

So.. how I promised.. some pics of creative supply crate droppings. First one is on outskirts and I think most of you know that spot. But the second one on refinery I haven't seen very often, so maybe some of you can use it. ;) It's a little bit tricky because if you throw the supply crate green smoke grenade too far to the left or the right then the supply crate won't drop, I coun't the lines on the floor from the wall and then throw the nade.

the sewer and refinery crates are interesting.. but doubtful to survive for very long.

oddly enough, since this post has been made, i have seen many more crate in the wall placements then in the 6 months prior.

A couple of other useless crate placing:

The first one is really useless, because you have to walk up stairs to use it, thats shit. :P But the second is alright, sure, it gets blown up in seconds by violators, tormentors, obliberator or nades, but it's ok.. not really useless.

Well, come to think about it, I guess the first crate is more useful in fact. To defend mining laser properly there has to be a camping guy on the second floor of this small building. Otherwise it gets immediately occupied by Strogg. And as a Strogg I LOVE to throw grenades from relative security of this window to disarm mines, gib engies and medics, damage turrets and finally jump down with repair tool ready. A supply crate could help there against this, though it will be surely damaged fast. That's why IMHO it's better to place a camping medic there, so he could put these crates therein all the time - it's really easy marker positioning, not like on Refinery.

You can drop a supply crate inside the guard tower near the ship on Quarry. It's not invulnerable there, but it will last a bit longer because the structure is on top of it and it provides some basic protection against obliterators and artillery. I included some screenshots to show how it's done.

The difficult part is to stop the engineers from constructing the tower before the crate has been dropped...

its so damn creative! but you do put it correctly when you say about getting it deployed before the engies construct the tower. i love playing engie but dont know why i have never been able to construct those. someone always beats me to it. :D

near the entrance of the 2nd objective in island. this crate survived for almost 7 or 8 minutes. :) thats a of resilience for supply crates, that too at such a hi activity location. other days (when the whole of the crate is outside) they barely last a few mins!

On the subject of using crates through walls. I cannot verify this for sure, but it seems I've been able to trip some enemy mines on the other side of walls, just by hugging the wall. I've taken no damage, and to my knowledge, there was no other reason for the mines on the other side of the wall to 'trip' the moment I hug the wall. This has happened several times on Outskirts in the data brain transmission area of the final obj.
