Dear Nubie,
Engineers and Covert Ops are vulnerable when they are hacking or building objectives. They usually have to fight their way to the objective by themselves, and they generally die before they get there or have so little health left that even a little splash damage will kill them. If you hit your tab key during play, you can see what the make-up of your team is. Rather than becoming the third Field Op or yet another rocket soldier, maybe you could go medic, help clear the enemy out from area around the objective, kill spawn hosts, and raise your team mates when they die. Also, while your team mate is hacking or building, don’t stand there and watch them, turn around and face the direction you think the enemy will be coming from and be ready to shoot them as they approach (this is colloquially referred to as becoming a “meat wall”). Also, please don’t throw grenades or shoot rockets at the objective. Your teammates probably have very little health having had to fight their way to the objective by themselves, and the splash damage will likely kill them. Also, try not to be too afraid of getting killed. It’s true that while you are re-spawning, your team is down a man and you don’t get to blow anything up, but the only way to become a seasoned killer is to get dirty in the lead zone. Having said all of this, welcome to the game! I look forward to getting greased by you (as long as you are on the other team).
Sincerely,
Sakhmet
