Alright lets face it, objectives don't get you the "Most Kills" which we all know is the only award that matters at the end of the map. You want fame, glory, to be kicked from servers, hunted down, force people to switch their class just to kill you, and to get an e-pat on the back from your buddies in ventrilo without using a hyperblaster.

These are just my opinions and tricks/tweaks/tips and I will keep it updated.

Killing tips

Well, if you already haven't thought about it, more time played doesn't make you better. Many people have been playing this game for a long ass time yet still fail compared to less active/newer players. There is a peak of skill people hit over time and once they hit it it becomes a very very slow climb to get better. Experience is still important, but basically I'm saying not everyone can be MichaelD even if you spent your life on the game. Keep in mind most kills aren't going to be 1v1 duels and playing smart will get you more than having good aim.

1. Paying attention to the spawn timer is a good way to increase your kills, don't go rushing out only to have a 30 second wait because you ran into a grenade. Also it can tell you when is a good time to push out and get kills or throw a nade when they are running out of spawn.

2. Bind a key to /kill(respawn wisely). This isn't always to be gay. A example of proper usage would be 3rd stage GDF on Area 22: If you are a good medic or covert ops you will often run out of ammo or grenades, instead of wasting time asking for ammo boxes or using your pistol just /kill and get rearmed. Smart players use it to fall back to next objectives and other things.

3. Have binds to different spawn points and classes. This will save you a lot of time if a certain situation requires you to go back and get the tormentor or get a oblit.

4. Realize people are going to try and revive people that are lying down. If you are a GDF sniper and get a kill, you can guess if a tech will crouch down to try to revive him and give you another kill. Same thing with knowing when is a good time to throw a nade on a guy that is down and counting on a medic running over only to get blown up. Also keep in mind good players know when to rush when they hear a tech pull out their stroyent tool, but this can also be used at bait(same with grenades, it can be a sign to rush them if you hear them pull the pin).

5. Don't fight battles you can't win. Don't hesitate to fall back if you feel you might lose. Get healed up if you are taking a beating unless you have a spawn host or a good spawn time.

6. Flank them/backrage.

7. Learn to strafe jump well. You will be killed less and get to your kills faster.

8. Get headshots and know if you have to lead your shots in certain servers.

9. Use "stroyent up" frequently(the one that gives you hp, may be _stroydown). It will save you. Binding it to your mouse wheel is a good idea

10. When using rocket artillery or a plasma mortar know you can aim into the air to buy yourself time or get a better angle on the target before raining down artillery

11. If you can see the enemy spawn try to watch how many are landing and plan your attack from there.

12. You can repair your armor inbetween Plasma Mortar shots.

13. You can use _tophat to aim the minigun in the bumblebee.

14. You can use _tophat to get an easier lock-on with the Anansi and Tormentor.

15. Don't always rely on lock-ons for oblit/rocket shots.

16. Jumping is dangerous with a hyperblaster and GPMG. Zoom in as much as you can with the GPMG.

17. Consider keeping stroyent and medkits on the ground if you are camping a spawn.

18. You can toss a nade into an enclosed area and use it as a bluff. Basically make them think it is going to blow up and run in when they are taking cover.

19. Always watch the radar and use supply crates when you need to.

20. Don't concentrate on your strafing or aim. Use the force.

21. If you are quick scoping with a railgun try to finish with a blaster and not another rail in close combat.

22. Go for two shot kill with the snipers if you can. Unless they are repairing, reviving, scoped in, or running/walking in a straight line.

Sound Tweaks/Tips

1. If you a creative sound card, make sure your CMSS 3D is enabled, it will give you better directional sound. Also double check you have everything set to "headphones". If you don't have a creative sound card, then there are probably things you can do that I do not know about.

2. Disable in-game VOIP

3. Lower the inbound in vent, and lower the sfx on players that need to be lowered.

4. Config junk, seta g_tooltipVolumeScale (pro)

5. Turning off Quick Chat sounds can be very good as well in public servers. g_noQuickChats " " I think.

6. Boost bass.

Visuals/FPS

I'm not going to paste a config here. You game should look like crap, makes it easier to track and spot people. You should also have high brightness and gamma.

1. NVIDIA control panel Digital Vibrance, don't hesitate to put it up to 100%

2. Cap your FPS around 125/200

3. Have a high refresh rate and a good response time on your monitor.

4. Use ui_showgun 0

5. Reduce the number of chat lines in game at one time so the spam doesn't fill your screen. (I forgot the command)

6. Remove your fireteam box or make it very transparent if you aren't in one frequently, same with the vote.

Aiming Tweaks/Tips

(see visuals)

1. A lot of people like to change their net_clientprediction " ". Mostly lower than 20. Try putting it up to 200, then put it at 0 like I do. Really 0-15 is a good value. 20 is default. Lowering it or raising it will make your lag-o-meter change, ignore it.

2. Some people lower their m_pitch so they can track heads better. I don't personally.

3. Make sure you have bobbing off in your options so your screen doesn't pretend it has a head.

4. Use a good sensitivity that works for you. Higher isn't always better.

5. Find a FOV (field of view) you like. I use the lowest possible (90) so heads appear closer, but many great players have it up to 110 and such to they don't miss seeing an enemy to their side. Enemies in the middle of a high fov appear slower, so people feel they can track heads better in that sense also. g_fov " "

Tips to surviving servers

1. Once you have become a killwhore, befriend every clan member on the server you are in so you do not get banned.

2. Bind something to "vote n" (normally f2)

3. Say hello when you enter the server, talk if you must.

4. Say hey -enter name- how are you doing? Even if you have only seen them twice. Normally you will get a Hi. Which is good.

5. Revive clan members and give them health. Everyone else you can ignore or use them as a shield

GDF sniper rifle trick

http://www.xfire.com/video/87208/

1. Scope weapon
2. Fire and unscope nearly at the same time
3. Switch weapon quickly and repeat
4. Practice so you don't shoot ghost bullets
(You can fire a quick scope shot once then a no scope that will travel straight and never ghost hits.)

I'm a bind noob. How do you bind stroy up to the mouse wheel? What's the input for the mouse wheel.

Sublim3
06-30-2009, 05:52 AM
Mouse3

bind "MOUSE3" "_stroyup" "" "team_strogg" // Health -> Ammo Strogg

This is mine
bind "r" "_stroydown" "" "team_strogg" // Ammo -> Health Strogg

because the strogg dont need to reload anywa ;)
You can see the use of the context bind there, specifying which team (GDF or Strogg) to use the function of that key.

I agree with most of that, but you forgot one thing:
Learn to fly the anansi and Pwn the entire server.

I think if you use siblim3's binds you'll need to define "team_strogg" but don't quote me on that.

Also, his bind will put stroydown when you click the mousewheel, you could bind to mouse wheel up but I can't remember what that is (MOUSEWHEELUP maybe?)

TreeFrog
06-30-2009, 01:29 PM
yeah, i was wondering more about having the mouse wheel when I wheel the mouse "up" or "down"

I know how to MOUSE3, but what about when scrolling the mouse wheel? I currently have my stroy button as "r" but seem to forget to press it sometimes whenever I'm in a big firefight, because it is hella hard to move and press "r" at the same time.

bind "MWHEELDOWN" "_stroyDown" "" "strogg"

Or MWHEELUP, obviously...

Szakalot
06-30-2009, 02:28 PM
the easiest way to check that is to bind something outstanding in the options and then check it in 'bindings.cfg' for that profiel

raccoon.
06-30-2009, 03:22 PM
I have it on

bind "MWHEELUP" "_stroydown" "" "default"
bind "MWHEELDOWN" "_stroydown" "" "default"

Both for me. I just rapidly scroll it for dear life while strafe jumping around and dropping stroyent packs =/. Usually works best in pubs. I edited my post so people know I'm talking about Ammo -> Health not the other way around.

GUNSL1NG3R

May want to change the default to team or class so its not a useless function when playing GDF.
Not comfy for me to scroll while pressing M1 to fire so I bound the stroy to thumb buttons.
My scroll wheel is set to, (as techy)
bind "MWHEELUP" "_weapon5" "" "technician"
bind "MWHEELDOWN" "_weapon2" "" "technician"
and is a quick switch from stroy cells to lacerator as tech

defib to AR as medic
plyers to AR as engy
arming tool to main weapon as sold/aggressor
etc

BobMem
06-30-2009, 04:00 PM
To be honest it's pretty useless IN firefights as you can't stroydown whilst firing, there's a cooldown. I find it most useful for healing myself when reviviing people, to hammer after you've pwnd someone 1vs1 or to use when running away from a big group of bad guys whilst cooking a nade!

raccoon.
06-30-2009, 04:10 PM
It works good during 1v1s if you are losing and are good at strafing. You can play ring around the building and can usually get a huge hp boost and have ammo left to kill him. I like to run and strafe in circles in 1v1s until the GDF person has to reload. I just keep stroying up then finish him off. It's more fun that way.

And I don't use the mouse wheel for anything on the GDF side so I just keep it default.

Some good tips raccoon!

People should lower their graphics settings, I can't stress that enough. It's important to avoid sudden drops in your frame rate because those will get you killed when you're fighting a decent player. I haven't brought them down to the bare minimum but my frame rate is steady and somewhere around 120 fps.

I'm not exactly a killing machine, but I do end up with most kills once in a while, and that only started to happen when I lowered my graphics settings. My explanation is that it will keep you from losing fights that you would have won if it weren't for the drop of frame rates with higher settings. It won't turn you into something you aren't, it will just help you win fights more often.

I think if you use siblim3's binds you'll need to define "team_strogg" but don't quote me on that.

Also, his bind will put stroydown when you click the mousewheel, you could bind to mouse wheel up but I can't remember what that is (MOUSEWHEELUP maybe?)

Correct, you need to define that to get it to work.

Here's my script for binding "_stroydown" and "_reload" to the same key:

//general section to make it possible to select the same key for different things depending on class/side
seta g_class_context_aggressor "team_strogg"
seta g_class_context_technician "team_strogg"
seta g_class_context_constructor "team_strogg"
seta g_class_context_oppressor "team_strogg"
seta g_class_context_infiltrator "team_strogg"
seta g_class_context_solider "team_gdf"
seta g_class_context_medic "team_gdf"
seta g_class_context_engineer "team_gdf"
seta g_class_context_fieldops "team_gdf"
seta g_class_context_covertops "team_gdf"

bind r "_reload" "" "team_gdf"
bind r "_stroydown" "" "team_strogg"

This will enable you to have more team specific binds. Just use "team_gdf" or "team_strogg" instead of default when you want a key to do something specific for either gdf or strogg.

I don't have any trouble with moving around when stroying down and using "r" for that, but I have my forward key bound to mouse2. I realize I'm an exception :) .

You can see the use of the context bind there, specifying which team (GDF or Strogg) to use the function of that key.

You could also just do that in the option menu, at the controls if your feeling lazy :)

Good tips though, thanks alot for this!

I added a few tips for sound and visuals. Anyone remember/know the command to reduce the amount of chat lines that are visible on the screen at once? I reduced mine but don't remember it. It helps to keep the screen clearer.

Unrelated I have my fireteam list removed also for pubbing

DrFunkenstein

That's true. Am I excused because I have no need for those?

Seriously and this is a genuine question, why are you using specific binds for specific classes? Could you give some examples?

I've bound the medic and technician vsays to keys specifically for that class.

You know the ones:

"Medic on route"
"Hold on, I'm gonna TK revive you" <-- this is my favourite and you NEVER hear it in pubs!

thats what Light said, surely has more potential than a simple quick-scope, but i never sniped so much to bother to optimize it, and it can be hard to pull of without proper practice.

the motion when the player kicks his nuts with the sniperrifle and the red bar disappears is when he switches to pistol and back to rifle instantly.

While i consider the very technique demanding (especially when your being shot at, and your processing 5 different things) its certainly worth it, however, it looks like a little too much of a macro heaven to me, and so id rather have it FIXED:p

omg read Light's and my last post

after quick-unscope you switch to pistol and to the rifle, you need to time it well; too fast, and you wont 'restart' the reload animation, too slow and you will equip the pistol, making the move pointless.

I've tried and tested my move and it is not pointless if you get the timing down lol. Its saved my ass a lot. you just aren't THA COON MENG THE COON PULLZ OFF MAD SHEET

but for real...the first 5 shots is the only example you need<--- its easy to do. the rest was like zomg how fast can I do it. who was that person who dared to lame my video.

I am under the influence right now but i will help u.

1. scope weapon
2. click fire and unscope at same time
3. clikc 2 amd 3 very quickly
4. repeat

pr ui cam quick snipe and just like fire and run away fast like when u have a railgun. works well lik that also. sry i wont rememeber posting this in the morning.

Its nice of you to finally explain it to those that dont understand but learn to F****** read!

:p

If you press 2 and 3 in succession too slowly => you will equip the pistol => the move will be pointless, because actually equipping the pistol takes more time than not bothering with the move at all.

The move is not as easy as you make it seem, surely easier for you, but, why then, you didnt manage to make a 10 in a row without fault?
Dont bother to make a 10 in a row, im sure your capable of it, it just shows that even an experienced move-user will get it wrong sometimes.

I tend to consider moves done with less than 90% efficiency to be risky in killzone environment.

Its like stacking up to plant a dyno on the gun's barrel in W:ET siwa oasis -> looks great on paper, and thats about it.

I think Murka had some macro stufff for the sniperrifle quickshot.
I tried it out in warmup, but it was too much of a hassle and I failed too often to make it worth trying in a real game. I need a bit of time to aim anyway, so if I spend all my attention to pressing the button sequence with the right timing, it'll not enhance my accuracy I'm afraid. :p

bind "r" r _stroydown" "" "technician"
bind "r" r _reload" "" "engineer"
