Alright lets face it, objectives don't get you the "Most Kills" which we all know is the only award that matters at the end of the map. You want fame, glory, to be kicked from servers, hunted down, force people to switch their class just to kill you, and to get an e-pat on the back from your buddies in ventrilo without using a hyperblaster.
These are just my opinions and tricks/tweaks/tips and I will keep it updated.
Killing tips
Well, if you already haven't thought about it, more time played doesn't make you better. Many people have been playing this game for a long ass time yet still fail compared to less active/newer players. There is a peak of skill people hit over time and once they hit it it becomes a very very slow climb to get better. Experience is still important, but basically I'm saying not everyone can be MichaelD even if you spent your life on the game. Keep in mind most kills aren't going to be 1v1 duels and playing smart will get you more than having good aim.
1. Paying attention to the spawn timer is a good way to increase your kills, don't go rushing out only to have a 30 second wait because you ran into a grenade. Also it can tell you when is a good time to push out and get kills or throw a nade when they are running out of spawn.
2. Bind a key to /kill(respawn wisely). This isn't always to be gay. A example of proper usage would be 3rd stage GDF on Area 22: If you are a good medic or covert ops you will often run out of ammo or grenades, instead of wasting time asking for ammo boxes or using your pistol just /kill and get rearmed. Smart players use it to fall back to next objectives and other things.
3. Have binds to different spawn points and classes. This will save you a lot of time if a certain situation requires you to go back and get the tormentor or get a oblit.
4. Realize people are going to try and revive people that are lying down. If you are a GDF sniper and get a kill, you can guess if a tech will crouch down to try to revive him and give you another kill. Same thing with knowing when is a good time to throw a nade on a guy that is down and counting on a medic running over only to get blown up. Also keep in mind good players know when to rush when they hear a tech pull out their stroyent tool, but this can also be used at bait(same with grenades, it can be a sign to rush them if you hear them pull the pin).
5. Don't fight battles you can't win. Don't hesitate to fall back if you feel you might lose. Get healed up if you are taking a beating unless you have a spawn host or a good spawn time.
6. Flank them/backrage.
7. Learn to strafe jump well. You will be killed less and get to your kills faster.
8. Get headshots and know if you have to lead your shots in certain servers.
9. Use "stroyent up" frequently(the one that gives you hp, may be _stroydown). It will save you. Binding it to your mouse wheel is a good idea
10. When using rocket artillery or a plasma mortar know you can aim into the air to buy yourself time or get a better angle on the target before raining down artillery
11. If you can see the enemy spawn try to watch how many are landing and plan your attack from there.
12. You can repair your armor inbetween Plasma Mortar shots.
13. You can use _tophat to aim the minigun in the bumblebee.
14. You can use _tophat to get an easier lock-on with the Anansi and Tormentor.
15. Don't always rely on lock-ons for oblit/rocket shots.
16. Jumping is dangerous with a hyperblaster and GPMG. Zoom in as much as you can with the GPMG.
17. Consider keeping stroyent and medkits on the ground if you are camping a spawn.
18. You can toss a nade into an enclosed area and use it as a bluff. Basically make them think it is going to blow up and run in when they are taking cover.
19. Always watch the radar and use supply crates when you need to.
20. Don't concentrate on your strafing or aim. Use the force.
21. If you are quick scoping with a railgun try to finish with a blaster and not another rail in close combat.
22. Go for two shot kill with the snipers if you can. Unless they are repairing, reviving, scoped in, or running/walking in a straight line.
Sound Tweaks/Tips
1. If you a creative sound card, make sure your CMSS 3D is enabled, it will give you better directional sound. Also double check you have everything set to "headphones". If you don't have a creative sound card, then there are probably things you can do that I do not know about.
2. Disable in-game VOIP
3. Lower the inbound in vent, and lower the sfx on players that need to be lowered.
4. Config junk, seta g_tooltipVolumeScale (pro)
5. Turning off Quick Chat sounds can be very good as well in public servers. g_noQuickChats " " I think.
6. Boost bass.
Visuals/FPS
I'm not going to paste a config here. You game should look like crap, makes it easier to track and spot people. You should also have high brightness and gamma.
1. NVIDIA control panel Digital Vibrance, don't hesitate to put it up to 100%
2. Cap your FPS around 125/200
3. Have a high refresh rate and a good response time on your monitor.
4. Use ui_showgun 0
5. Reduce the number of chat lines in game at one time so the spam doesn't fill your screen. (I forgot the command)
6. Remove your fireteam box or make it very transparent if you aren't in one frequently, same with the vote.
Aiming Tweaks/Tips
(see visuals)
1. A lot of people like to change their net_clientprediction " ". Mostly lower than 20. Try putting it up to 200, then put it at 0 like I do. Really 0-15 is a good value. 20 is default. Lowering it or raising it will make your lag-o-meter change, ignore it.
2. Some people lower their m_pitch so they can track heads better. I don't personally.
3. Make sure you have bobbing off in your options so your screen doesn't pretend it has a head.
4. Use a good sensitivity that works for you. Higher isn't always better.
5. Find a FOV (field of view) you like. I use the lowest possible (90) so heads appear closer, but many great players have it up to 110 and such to they don't miss seeing an enemy to their side. Enemies in the middle of a high fov appear slower, so people feel they can track heads better in that sense also. g_fov " "
Tips to surviving servers
1. Once you have become a killwhore, befriend every clan member on the server you are in so you do not get banned.
2. Bind something to "vote n" (normally f2)
3. Say hello when you enter the server, talk if you must.
4. Say hey -enter name- how are you doing? Even if you have only seen them twice. Normally you will get a Hi. Which is good.
5. Revive clan members and give them health. Everyone else you can ignore or use them as a shield
GDF sniper rifle trick
http://www.xfire.com/video/87208/
1. Scope weapon
2. Fire and unscope nearly at the same time
3. Switch weapon quickly and repeat
4. Practice so you don't shoot ghost bullets
(You can fire a quick scope shot once then a no scope that will travel straight and never ghost hits.)
