View Full Version : Avoiding being Hogged

Just a little trick I've come to notice recently. Haven't experimented a lot with it... But I've found I can often get away with being hit full-on by a Hog going at full speed, without significant damage, in an Armadillo.
How?: Play chicken with the Hog driver.
It's not a guaranteed thing, but I've found that quite often, if you floor it at an oncoming Hog... You quite often end up going underneath it and flipping the Hog into the air. Sometimes you get away without any damage, but you usually lose around half the Armadillo's heath. Better than death, though. And as a bonus you're still going in the direction you want to go.

be footman, trading speed for safety and be ready to cook grenades for hoggers. and to jumpstrafe, roaring "torro !" in VoIP.

Grenades don't kill hogs unfortunately.
I've never tried the armadillo thingy though, sounds a bit counterintuitive to me, but it may just work :)

1. 2 perfect frag[or one fg+little AR fatality ;] hits kill. or ong good GL hit.
2. better fit infantry itself. like RL-soldier, supported by Fieldops and medic. for best result - from dominating height.

@OP
totally dependant on what the surface is, ive never seen it happen on a perfect horizontal megatexture.

i never see "perfect horizontal megatexture" in ETQW. ever.
but yes, its depend on many things. but with some patience and [even]rudimentary tactic, Hog can be defeated singlehandedly. using obstavles/cover/evasion are essential, btw.
Megatextures are by definition perfectly horizontal, because they are a 2d texture
I know what you mean though :p
knowing you knowing im, use this worl to underline misschoosen word ;)
and we both know what this mean - Hog is favorite vihicle of Megatexture-related iD developer and huskies are for those, who dream about fly and SuperMan was Evlis in disguise and NASA now fabricating new Moon landing video, under disguise of "restauration".]
i didnt explain myself properly, but run a custom map if you want a perfect flat surface. There is an abundance of those in customs, due to lack of work hours to mix it up (and its not that badly needed)
why not ? :-) especially for indoor[excepct some Stroggs buildings, maybe], flat surfaces are still useful ;)
i hope, sometimes ago, 3D hardware/API's shift to Spline based-3D-surfacaces[lovely NVidia approach in past], or at least, industry swith from triangle only-usage to fractal one, as min-appx, element.

if you floor it at an oncoming Hog
Sorry, I don't understand. Can you explain further? Thanks.

This is the mistake a lot of pub titan drivers make, if you drive straight at a hog in the titan it won't kill you in one ram, giving you a chance to have a second shot (as you clearly missed with the first!). If you back away to try and get 2 shots in he'll kill you dead.
Hogs are very weakly armoured and can be taken down by concentrated small arms fire, if you see the hog from far enough away in the 'dillo use the MG before he gets to you!
@anunbis: Floor it means go quickly forward, pushing the throttle pedal to the floor.

it wont work in qwpro though, hog has one ram one kill ability there.

its tweakable "per-server".
btw its another good reason, to keep at least one RL-soldier, in team ;)

what works better is a some quick steering... evade the oncoming hog up close (chicken out), flip your vehicle round & hit him on his arsch... (the average pub hogger hits something after you chicken'd out losing all of his speed) if you hit the hog's wheels aren't glued on correctly.. they let go quickly :) hit a hog on it's tail (try it with a stationary Hog & a Husky) and it's wheel(s) come off.. :) no more speedy hogging after that :D

I was hogged once a long time ago. I stopped drinking after that night.

Lol @ Hellight.
IMO the hog is the most destructive vehicle for those of us that don't have a pilot's licence. :) (that's me BTW, 9k hog xp, about 73 anansi XP)

Speaking about hogs, i was roaming around in my brand new HOG, and soe GDF punk shot of one of my tyres, making my hog spin around in circles, doing badass donuts on the pavement!
I engaged the nitro and had a burnout session, until an anansi showed up and ruined all the fun. :(

I am going guess what lets you survive a hog straight on like that is the lack of anti lag on vehicles. You are experiencing a no reg hit from a hog.
I have rammed a deployable with a hog at full speed and the hog exploded while the deployable took NO damage. It happens quite a bit actually. I think you will find this tactic to work well enough some days and not at all others :) GG ETQW netcode

best way to evade hogging is ... use Hog y itself ;-P
or use Anansi ;-)
but i remember at least one Anansi rammed by Hog from ramp jump ;)

I'm trying to practice how to jump over these things, but I don't think the game will let me. Maybe a trick jump might work.

I mean, if a Hog is rushing towards me, and I'm on foot, I want to learn how to jump over a hog.
Something like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIWeEFV59d4&feature=related)
And not this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAoatO_kvz0)

you 'could' do that over a really steep incline

Brings to mind ye olde UT and the superjump powerup :)
Id say its impossible, cos the gun turret will smack you in the family jewels, but id say the dillo is doable :)

Kobe could probably do it, but I dunno.

Yeah, done it. Also works if you rampjump off a hill or something. Flat ground though? Not gonna happen.
