View Full Version : Island: No Deployed Turrets?

I wanna ask:
In Island, at the final GDF spawn (after blowing the Vault and trying to get the Data Disc to the transmitting console), is there a reason NOT to have turrets defend the spawn?
There were 3-5 Engineers and not a single turret visible at the spawn. For the sake of the team, I was the only Covert Ops so we could have radar (normally I play rocket-spamming Soldier). So the Strogg Tormentors and Desecrators repeated rolled all over us at our spawn and kept wasting my Radar (but any sensible Covert will have his 3rd eye somewhere to cover the crucial spots), the only deployable there.
I ******** about it repeated with text messages; got someone angry enough to initiate a (failed) kick vote against me. If there is an obscure reason NOT to have deployables at that junction, please enlighten this noob who is trying not to be too noobish so he won't whine about the lack of deployables  .

I notice that deployables here always seem to get blown up quickly, maybe they got fed up and stopped bothering.
Still you are right, that's not really a reason to stop deploying them.

All it takes is one determined engie with pliers to keep that spawn rolling with deployables if the rest are smart enough to put them down.
If you're on a decent team, someone slaps down an AIT in the back, hopefully a covi puts down radar, and then you just need an avt and someone watching for oppressors throwin violators.
Sadly it tends to be an easy spawn for the strogg to backrape with a pair of opressors, so there are occasions where you should probably focus more on getting the disc up the hill and into the room.
Not putting up deployables at all is just lazy engies tho.
As an engie all you have to do is spend 3 seconds after spawning to call down another if it's destroyed, and maybe 10 more seconds of repairing the other stuff up to non-disabled status on the way out of spawn and down the hill, and your team can actually focus on doing the obj.

i agree that what they did is noobish, but spamming text messages like 'deploy that radar' are soooo annoying.

If they are all engie and don't deploy, thats dumb.
Better to switch to medic or field ops for the crates and airstrikes.
Lot's of nubes playing lately. Cut them some slack, or try to say it kindly.

Maybe one or more of them had their turrets further forward, like up on the hill. But yeah, you need an AVT and an AIT back there if you're getting camped. But if not, move them up when you get to the 3rd phase.

AMEN!
As a Covey/Inf it really is irritating when your radar is getting owned by vehicles and other things that can be countered and your team is bitching that you aren't keeping the radar up. If I can throw up radar I can't repair. I can redeploy as much as possible but I really appreciate good engi's who keep stuff running.
Also: When moving to the next objective, spamming deploy a radar, we need psi radar, is not helpful. Most coveys/inf's are moving the radar closer to the next objective. :)
Now if you don't see a radar up but sniping going on then feel free to rip me a new one!

I usually spam this cuz even if the secondary "job" of engies are to repair stuffs, your main "job" is to keep a radar up, if your radar get continuously powned just redeploy it as fast as you can, I do that as covie and even if I'm less usefull for my team (I kill less ppl), I think that covies are so lowerpowered compared to anything in this game that I focus on gettin a radar up all the time, with a good third eye on the obj.
Some uber sniper or backstabber wont agree with me here, but if I want to kill ppl I play medic or soldier, covie is just to limit the enemis movement by sniping or stuffs like that (ofc I can kill pll with sniper ;) but it doesnt happens enuff to be really important)
Regarding the spamm when you move to objective I think its allways usefull to remind ppl that in pub with average players, the sooner you get a radar up, the easiest you win the game.
Dont take it as a grief tho, I spamm it cuz my english sux and I'm bored to loose time writing down to Xplayer "x plz deploy a radar we need it", when I spamm it its not like I was saying you are a noob, just that we need it at the front.... when i'm angry enuff I switch to covie, keep a radar up and snipe ppl... which is a loss for my team cuz even if I'm not the best outta there I'm more usefull at the front or inside shotting ppl...
peace
