After the gdf destroyed a grate, it's much faster and safer to go trough the upper route instead to go trough the grates, because the gdf always plant mines and bombard the regular exit(including me :) ) It's also a handy spot to defend the grates in the second phase:

DAMN!! I saw that open grate last night and thought perhaps the GDI could use it. They need a sneaky way in like good old ET maps use to give you. Like perhaps a way to hack the force field controls for a split second to let in a soldier to blow the grate. That would be cool.

doubt that would work... but a good covert could walk in himself and then snipe some people from behind the grates or just be ready for when the grates blow and wait in his disguise till he can get to the sewer controls

Yeah, a lot of people forget about/don't know about that route.

This morning I got there with Covert Ops in disguise before grates were blown... then waited and waited then it blew and then those doors were opening... very very slowly.... waited.... and waited... then constructor came to place mine... backstabbed him... then technician came to revive... tried to backstab him and didn't work... then I died and wasted about 2-3 minutes:p but it could have worked:D
