Six and a half years ago on a Monday morning here in London, I sat in front of my computer and wrote my first ever developer diary. Back then I was the Project Leader for a non-commercial modification to id Software

The thing im most pleased with is that despite all this commercial success, you guys still have the time to come chat with us/play with us on irc etc.

This is perhaps one of the only major games ive seen developed where the devs still maintain realtime connections with the community whether new or old (gawd bless you IRC)

Great concept in a few ways...

This idea makes good business sense - community support helps ensure success for the game, and also builds brand loyalty etc (eg. look at how many ET sites etc are driving ETQW hype).

From the point of view of an ET server admin at some gaming networks & ladder admin of the main comp in Aus I think this is a great initiative.

I also really like the idea as a player - being able to have this resource where I can hear about all the cool features, news, and views on various community sites around the world is great.

Paul you're not the only one who is astonished by what you've achieved. I've probably told you enough times but you're my hero. Persuing a dream like this rarely pays off as well, but if anyone 'gets out what they put in', its you. From humble beginnings to setting the new bar in FPS gaming, you've truely earnt your success. I'm glad I knew you before all this, so that I can honestly say your dedication and enthusiasm to MP games has never changed. Yeah congrats, already this game is getting people's anticipations high, and tbh, I really feel part of a community here. I've been hovering round forums for a bit, but there seems a good morale in your camp @ SD and there's good vibes from here on the forum. Heck, the team seem decent and nice. Quite a change from getting such crap from other games. - It seems like certain developers staff don't even want themselves to be known at times and just whack the game out and forget there's people playing it!!
