OK, first off, I'd like to say... I DON'T WANT THIS ADDED TO THE ORIGINAL GAME!!

This is an idea for after the game is released (ie: goes Gold!)... but does anyone else think that some really interesting game modes could be modded into the game?

For instance... a capture the flag mode, that requires a Covert ops to hack a shield or be in disguise to cap the flag? Or it could be done the old fashion flag cap.

Or a "Find the Covert Ops/Infiltrator" where a single covert ops/infiltrator is dropped into a map and must complete an objective by sneaking past a team of enemies?

I know that I am a little early on this idea as the full game (and SDK tools) are probably a long way off... but the idea came to me and I thought I'd post it. Any other ideas that folks might have for mods post release are welcome as well.

Oh, and one more I thought of... make the Covert Ops / Inflitrator class much harder to find... ie: able to use all the weapons of the disguise they are in etc...

Just an idea for after game release. :cool:

EDIT: Yes, I am fixated on Covert Ops... it's one of my favorite classes. Sorry!

I don't think that a game type such as CTF would fit, although I could be wrong.

Perhaps headquarters would work, best way I suppose if for the modders to play once the SDK is released.

It will be interesting to see what does come out of the modding community though!

Goo*: Agreed. CTF was just the basic idea as I wanted everyone to understand where I was going. Although I am personally not a modder (I just don't have the patience for it... oh well), I do think some VERY good mods are going to come out for this game, seeing as how they will have a great base to work from.

I'd bet you'd even think adding a LMS mode, where you can't respawn if you tap out, or get "gibbed", and the objective is to eliminate all of the other team.

Might be interesting, but I've never been one for the "single life" in a team work based game (I'm sorry, I don't know what LMS is), because one team can go sniper and pick off the other team from across the map... especially in this game... still, it might make folks use cover a little better!

where is the modding subforum anyway?

We need ETQW Baserace!

Baserace is a map designed by Cpt.Triscuit, its a race to build your base! You need to sneak into the opponents base, steal construction boxes and bring them back to your own base, where you can choose between various structures to be build strengthening your base and / or your team.

Also, LMS is allways fun. in W:ET it was much more tactical with gibbing and stuff..

Trenchcoast kind of maps for ET:QW sound cool as well, just like capture the flag.

CTF is great fun and would be an excellent mod for the game. Slipping in the classes would add a lot to it I think but you'd want to keep the pace fast too. If they could mirror some maps to provide a level playing field and perhaps allow for you to field gdf vs gdf or Strogg vs Strogg I'd love to play it. Damn my anticipation for the SDKs release is nearing that of the game.

Types of Mods that may work are:

King of the Hill (Not capture the flag but remaining inside a location, defending it, or locations, in order to win the map)

Bounty hunter (You get more experience if you have less experience and you kill someone who has more experience than you; than if you have lots of experience and you kill someone that to you is a easy target). If you were vastly experienced in comparison to your targets, you may even get Zero experience.

Sainted, Fade2Black, Jelster.... great ideas! Keep em coming!!! I might just have to learn how to use the SDK tools and get some of these put together when the game comes out!! (Drooling... can't wait for gold release!!!)

The one not mentioned here (as it tended to suck being the VIP) is the old CS based "Protect the VIP". In QW it probably could be "protect the commander", and it would be more of a mobile game where the most skilled player on each side became the "commander". The "commander" may even get bonuses to their health for every friendly within x range. Hunt down the enemy or protect your own.. your decision.

I like the idea of a stealth map, with your covert, but there could be a stealth team vs team. E.g., bots activate on loud noises. So the map would be dark passages, laberynth, stealth, water splashes, breathing, gravel on some floors, make loud noises - even the sound of running may awaken the ULTIMATE KILLING BOT/s. Find your enemies and deal with them quietly and avoid awaking the UKB's. Or awaken the UKB's and evade them, run through enemies luring these UKB's towards your enemies. UKB's should be Uber, Hard to Kill, and downright nasty.

@MidnightShadows I think this idea and other varied types of gamplay could be implemented by mappers with scripting. Baserace is a great example.
Personally i like the siege type from COD whereby you have to hold/flush a building and then move on.

Jailbreak would actually fit in nicely with the current maps and with a little tweaking might be able to take advantage of the classes to perform certain tasks. You could for example need an engineer to cut the power to the enemy jail, plunging it into darkness. Covert Ops of course would then have night vision. Rather than have people instantly moved to jail when they die you could give them 10-20 seconds before the transport beam/helicopter picks them up, in this time the medic could revive....

We need ETQW Baserace!

I've got an idea in my head for a Baserace on steroids. Think baserace with more of an RTS aspect.

I'll be converting quite a few of the game modes dveloped for the Refractor engine to QW. Below is a short list and a couple are already 75%+ finished.

-Rally Racing (will be quite fun w/ the ability to enable advanced vehicle controls).
-Classic CTF.
-CQTF, like CTF but you need to carry flags from your base to control points to take control of them (think like the old TeamFortress Canal Zone).
-King of the Hill
-Bombing Run (similar to CTF, but think UT2003).

Wow... never thought I'd get this kind of response... ok

@Fade2Black: I like the idea of what has been called "DarkMatch" which is what you described, only the addition of bots is a nice touch... how about a bonus for actually managing to kill one of your UKBs?

As for the VIP thing... I've played a few of those... didn't really turn my crank... but it might work if tweaked properly.

@Jelster: Jail break is definately one of the game modes running around in my head... especially considering the objective based play in game definately supports the idea.

@Sponge: SWEET!!!

@Mach10: wait... not bombing run... PLEASE not bombing run... that game style always drove me nuts. Somehow, running through the middle of a battlefield without a weapon just seems foolish to me. Now, how about using small arms while holding the ball and being slowed down to walk speed?

The way the game modes come out are the way I think is best. Feedback and opinions don't carry much weight.

@Midnight UKB

Yeh, I would see these bots requiring concentrated fire from 3+ sources to take them out, so the reward should be special too... but not too lucrative to get people to spawn them all the time.

@Mach10: Umm what? No feedback or opinions means that you end up with a finished product that... well only a few people like... anyway, if you've already got those mods worked on, KEEP IT UP! And let me know if you need any help with sound... it's what I do all day anyway.

@Fade2Black: Yea, make it difficult but not impossible, no concentrated fire... but how about just a really high amount of health? To the point where it would take a LONG time (and alot of ammo) to take one of them out? Besides, if it's a "darkmatch" wouldn't trying to kill those bots give away your position and make you a target for the players as well?

@Midnight

Yes.. the UKB would have to work that way.
Feel free to use any of the mod ideas I gave!

Uh, Conquest mode :p

Really, a C&C Renegade style game would be awesome.

Laurean; yet again, thanks for your opinion. But please provide something useful instead of a pointless comment next time.

Brinkman: I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean? I'm not worried (nor I think, is anyone else really) about XP or 10 map rotations when it comes to mods... especially considering that mods will have to be run on "unranked" servers.

Uh, Conquest mode

camper1: isn't that sorta like "Base Race"? (Sorry if I am being ignorant) I mean, isn't Base Race a bit like RTS mixed with FPS? I dunno... still a good idea tho!

KEEP THEM COMING GUYS!

Side Note: To all you folks that are looking forward to actually making mods for ETQW... keep an eye on this forum! Alot of good ideas seem to be popping up!!

I was thinking of redoing some gametypes that can be adapted to be more suited to the etqw gameplay/story:

* King Of The Hill:
In a big fight on earth, some real important information has been gathered, which must be send to the headquarters. there is only one spot in the area that is high enough to transmit the signal. Try to capture the hill and send the signal. you have to defend the area for some time so all information can be send. This applies to both teams.

different way:
a meteor which contains large amounts of energy has landed on earth on a hill, you need to capture the hill and move the on a transport platform so it can be send away /strogg need to build a rocket to send it to space.

* TeamDeathMatch:
a large open field where 2 teams fight eachother..
the more frags you do, the more the frontline gets moved to one or the other side.
players spawn a specified distance away from the frontline, so they don't get spawn raped
and have to run in direction of the enemy which makes it look more like a war scenario.

* kind of a 'One Flag CTF':
a very valuable piece of information has been dropped somewhere on earth, and gdf must try to get it to their base.
strogg must prevent them from doing so and get it to their own base so they can send it to their motherships.
