ok so its just a basic stuff how not to work against ur own team. the situation is the EMP is online and the next line of defense are the grids.
GDF, dont plant HE on the left grid, tho the XP is tempting, you will only give the Strogg a faster route inside the control room. its better to have the right grid as a choke point if the team is not filled with pushers.
Strogg, when the GDF planted HE on the left grid, tho the XP is tempting, dont defuse it, it will give you a faster route which might be essential when rushing to kill the hacker(s).

I've actually changed my mind on this. The successful strogg D relies on spawnhosts, not getting back to the room from spawn a bit easier. If you are stuck getting through the south and top hatch, the north can spread the defense out enough for people to get in.
Planting the north also often take enough pressure off the south that you can get a plant in.

What ReyalP said, and i must also say that if i want to get to the Hackable objective i usually take the small corridor from the Strogg base. (the one where ppl usually stands to use the drones. evil guys)

Yea, this is not an easy choice as on fueldump. With the nade defence that many do, I would vote for "blow up that gate as well".

I disagree with OP, largely in part to Yojimbo's nade defence line. Constructors also can spam the plasma launcher easily through south without ever being in line of fire if it is the only opening.

The potential nade/sniper/hyperblaster spam that comes out of an entrenched strogg control room defense makes blowing the far grate necessary most of the time.

Yep, it depends on if the Strogg are able to put up a good defense on that choke point. If GDF are able to control the area around the control room right off the bat, then you wanna hold off on blowing that 2nd grate.
Blowing both grates as GDF gives you two ways in which to storm to control room, which is helpful as it limits the direction in which the Strogg can actually defend. As Strogg, we've had great success at holding a single choke point through use of stroyent drops and spawn hose use. The occasional blast shield thrown right at the stairway keeps GDF from rushing in guns blazing.

Grates, not grids.
Maybe they should change the voice so it's easier to understand? Then again it displays the objective in text...

Don't forget that in addition to blowing the other sewer grate, you can also blow the overflow hatch.

You should always blow the overflow. This is also good if the strogg are inside spamming the grates before you plant.

A bit OT, but is there a way to plant charge again? That is when I plant it but it lands in wrong place so it won't blow up the objective - is there a way to take it back [I haven't armed it] or waiting for a new charge is the only option?

I doubt you could do that. I played around with the HE charges and Plasma charges, and once you plant, the charge bar depletes, and you have to wait for it to recharge. You also can't pick up that same charge again. So this means that you have to carefully plant your charges rather than randomly planting it somewhere thinking that it might blow up the grates. One time I planted the HE charge with half of it touching the grate, and half of it touching the wall. The grate didn't blow up. I was like d'oh. Actually I was like d'oh when I saw that the timer bar on the hud signifying the amount of time before the grate blows up didn't start.

But quite often it doesn't plant it where you point your mouse. You aim it correctly and then it places it in awkward place, like few centimeters from objective... and you can either arm it and hope you do not kill teammates or just wait [and probably get killed]. I really wish you could pick it up...

It could be made to work the same way as landmines in W:ET. If you place a landmine on concete and try to arm it, it disappears but you regain your charge bar.
I don't see why would anyone place a charge on anything different than an objective, deployable, or vehicle. I suppose it would be as effective as offensive dynamite in W:ET

Actually you can't do it, so placing it near objective is a bug. It lets you plant charge only on objectives, vehicles and deployables.

Zeldor :
You can place a charge "anywhere"... People use charges sometimes on the controls in sewers, at choke points when defending, etc.
If you have seen a post stating its a bug, please provide a link... but only allowing you to plant on objectives/destroyables and not at random places doesn't make a lot of sense imo.

Hmm... I wasn't able to lay charge just on the ground, but I will check it again.

You can't plant charges on the ground. Any vertical surface is fairgame though.

Oh, I slapped some charges on the ground. You have to crouch to do it though.
