I am looking for a better PC for quake wars because the only PC in my house if for the whole family and runs extremely slow. Anyways I saw this offer on Craigs list for $1000 dollars and wanted to know what you experience pc gamers think.

It's awfully light on the RAM.

Hmm, this is the computer I just ordered (hasn't even shipped yet -- and I see that the video card JUST RAN OUT OF STOCK ARGHHH!!!)

http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=1884170

That comes to $1000 but has no screen/peripherals/OS... but I'm going to assume you already have those.

Here are the prices if you were to put together the PC yourself (from those specs)
CPU: $136 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116238
Vid Card - $220 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130048
RAM ~$70 (and this is some good ram too for 2x512)
MOBO ~$100
CD Drive ~$20
Case + PSU ~$150 (for a very decent case)
HDD ~$50
Widescreen LCD 19" ~$200
Keyboard, Mouse ~$30 (I think, unless Logitech is worth more)
Your OS ~$80

That comes to a bit over a thousand right there BUT it's used _AND_ you'll have a hell of a time getting replacement/support if something goes wrong. It's a sour deal, in my opinion -- I would just simply buy the parts for that much and put it together myself.

Well it's safe to say he doesn't know how, because if he did, i'm sure he would rather do that.

DEADLINE - That computer will do fine for Quake Wars but I suggest you buy another RAM stick. 1GB is a little low. Other than that, looks fine to me.

it is by no means the 'ultimate' gaming pc as it claims, however it should run things acceptably (but no 1600x1200 4xaa and all that stuff)

the question is whether or not you are willing to pay a little extra because its pre-built. a diy system is tends to run slightly cheaper (and/or better) but thats not really an option if youre not technically inclined (or can get someone to do it for you)

I wouldn't give up my commodore 64 if monkeys fell out of the sky.

Agreed about that one! You could build a Core2Duo rig with 2 gig of ram etc. for less!

It's a bit outdated rig, plays well but it's overpriced. You can easily get C2D + 8800GTS rig for 1k.

Overpriced, wouldnt even buy it for 800$.

Yeah, I've never even looked at the inside of a computer so I'm not that good with them. Mostly just a console guy but want to hop to pc for quake wars. My step-moms brother however is supposedly awesome at making his computers so I'll see if I can get him to do it.

It's overpriced.

I would buy new parts and do it myself. Get 2 gigs of ram. If you can manage it, also get a DX10 video card.

yes thats overpriced, i got my pc for about 800$ in 20oct 2005:
P4 3.2GHz
1x1GB 500Mhz RAM
160GB HD
ati x700
ASUS P5GPL motherboard

and this is called overpriced xD

so id suggest better ram, never go two 512 cuz after when you are full on slots you have to throw away some, and when you buy, buy the best so it wont get outdated.

btw never buy MX revolution(that mouse sux)
