Anyone come across the settings for the slow tactical or fast shooter settings for the servers? I may have seen it, just didn't know it. We would like to run a couple of each.

in W:ET, the command for speed was g_speed. You might do a tab complete and see what the current setting is. I believe standard is 322, General Jung apparently has one running at 160

Thanks, i will try it out tonight.

Looking forward to testing out what a slow Id game is like ;p

Ok, i have 2 servers running now with these settings. After walking around some, i think the settings may need some adjusting. Not fully sold on the jump height at 32.

-)G(- Public Server

and

The Gathering's US Tactical Server

Also, another question. Since the etqwconfig.cfg is located in my documents and both servers seem to be pulling from it, do i just add a line into the addtional parameters to use another config? the "+exec config.cfg" line? And should i put it in the same folder as the original?

That would be my guess

the admin command in the console is: admin execConfig <CONFIG NAME>

from http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103211#post103211

so it might be +execConfig <CONFIG NAME> also

Alright,

After some testing i have come across a couple of things.

First, when editing the additional parameters tab, the "/" disappear from your +fs_savepath directory. When this happens you start getting a "could not load dynamic library" error

Second after i added the settings in my default config to slow down the speeds, i had to state what the default speeds were in any additional configs i had or it used the slower speeds.

Hope that helps anyone else from pulling their hair out.

"The Gathering's US Tactical Server" is the slower server with....

seta pm_runspeedback "140"
seta pm_runspeedforward "160"
seta pm_runspeedstrafe "140"
seta pm_sprintspeedforward "280"
seta pm_sprintspeedstrafe "160"
seta pm_jumpheight "32"

-)G(- Public Server (Normal) is running

seta pm_runspeedback "160"
seta pm_runspeedforward "256"
seta pm_runspeedstrafe "192"
seta pm_sprintspeedforward "352"
seta pm_sprintspeedstrafe "160"
seta pm_jumpheight "64"

Try it out and let me know what you guys think and i can adjust one way or another.

Hello Forum,

the settings from The Gathering's US Tactical Server are really good. I also test similar settings at my server. And will set up a slower server on my root when the linux server is out. A slower speed offers the full strategy of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars.

nice work on the slower server, but making jumping heights lower, and running speeds lower is one thing. but have you also tried editing the vehicle speeds.. since it sort of corresponds to your 'slow server' settings? i havent had time to look into such things..
like

in_heli_side_speed
in_heli_forward_speed
in_hovertank_forward_speed
in_hovertank_side_speed
etc... etc...

few other ones for player speed itself that might be useful for your server.. dunno if it matters to you

pm_crouchspeed
pm_pronespeed
pm_proneheight (would this stop snipers from clipping mountain sides? if it was increased)
or maybe this one? pm_proneviewheight
pm_runbob (change the amount you bob around while your running)

Yeah i was actually thinking about that. I guess its just going to take some testing to see what fits. I dont guess it would make much sense to leave the vehicles at normal speed with foot speed slower.

Hell i get in to test stuff and i find myself playing the game and completing objectives:dance:

LOL, there is no way the GDF will ever finish Valley with slower speed. Your wrong tho, it offers a different kind of strategy. Both fast and slow have a wide array of tactics you need to employ to finish the map they are just different depending on how you play. One does not outshine the other although some people seem to think so.

Damn slowbies.

You'd probably need to add another 10 minutes to the map. ;)

I would love to see a half speed GDF team getting owned by oppressor artys on bridge point while the strogg team sits a mile away and has sandwiches.

Hello Forum,

You have to use more tactic, you have to think before you get out, because you can not jump out of the area of an artillery strike.

I could be wrong, but I would guess that slowing down player speed will shift the balance far in favour of vehicles and spam. Some people already consider the vehicle spam pretty severe. On the other hand, mines will probably be less effective. I guess we'll have to try it out and see.

I still wish people would look out for my arty, but with slower speeds, they wont get too far. More TK's for me I guess.

Slowing down the speed of the game to me seems like you're chaning the mechanics of the game and breaking an already fragile balance. It doesn't make the game more tatical, it make the game unbalanced. Picture having to walk to all the objectives at slow pace.

You change 1 thing, you need to change a whole lot of other things. Especially vehicle spawn time, and more importantly deployable spawn times/recharge times.

i have yet to give the slowed settings a chance, but i can see there being issues already. I guess it will just take some tweaking.

a side note..
has anyone found the command to change the waterfriction/speed?

Wolf ET speed is, if I am not mistaken:

seta pm_runspeedforward "256"
seta pm_runspeedback "256"
seta pm_runspeedstrafe "256"
seta pm_sprintspeedforward "352"
seta pm_sprintspeedstrafe "352"

(same speed in all directions, regardless if you walkback or sideways)

Sprint-strafing is disabled in ETQW, (and I dont know if/how you can enable Sprint-strafing). But there *is* the pm_sprintspeedstrafe command. Is this cvar false? The reason I wonder is because, I've tried changing pm_sprintspeedstrafe but it seems to be the same speed regardless of value on the server. Which would be natural, since you cannot press shift to sprint when strafing. pm_sprintspeedstrafe_enable "1" please?

Hello -)G(-PunisheR,

is the "The Gathering's US Tactical Server" down?

Yeah it went down a couple days ago and ate the profile and cfg files somehow. It wasn't too stable for somereason. And actually i wasn't too impressed with it so slowed down. I might put another one up with adjusted strafe and jumping to aggrovate the bunny hoppers, but other than that, I have gotten used to the normal pace of ETQW that anything slower is kinda wierd.

What was the overall take from your community about the slower game speed. I could see where that would be fun, BUT, it would require a whole lot of config balancing to make it play in a balanced fashion IMO - more than just slowing down player speeds.

I don't know about slower run speeds, but off the top of my head I'm not too excited about that.

I was on a server last night that somehow changed the build decay on the bridge and the hack decay. I usually switch covert and just continually bumrush the hack obj to finish it, and on this server I couldn't get back fast enough spawning 2 seconds after I died and travelling in a Badger... the hack would disappear (progress) about 5 seconds before I got back. Totally sucked.

Just a fwiw, the default run and sprint speeds have increased slightly in the current beta.
old: pm_runspeedforward "232"
new: pm_runspeedforward "256"
old: pm_sprintspeedforward "320"
new: pm_sprintspeedforward "352"

None of us really enjoyed the slower speeds server since we are all used to the default speeds. We returned both servers back to default.

id like to see a 'faster' server though lol :) not for vehicles though.. they are fast enough lol. just faster sprint speeds or something. or faster speeds in water.
make it a real 'quake' server. no speed slow down when jumping.. here is also something i dont find realistic.. there are no kickbacks from anything like in quake.
like a rocket or nade lands near you but doesnt kill you.. there is no kickback from it
none of that can be done with the cvar commands though :( so i guess i gotta wait for a mod to fix it
