This (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2597917&Sku=E145-8000&SRCCODE=PRICEGRABBER&CMP=OTC-PRICEGRABBER) is the video card I am thinking of getting. I have heard some decent things about it but I don't want to trust the hype. I don't plan to run it SLI as i can't afford 2 of them and my motherboard doesn't support it so hopefully just one will be more than enough. What do you guys think?
Also, my power supply is only 500w...think that will hold?

The 8800GTX is awesome if you have the specs for it. I'm betting the power will only be unleashed if you have a high end Core2Duo. I use a pentiumD 950 @ 4 GHz and I still don't use all of the 8800GTX even though my CPU is equal to a midrange Core2Duo. Iit's a solid card and the drivers are VERY GOOD right now. And your PSU should be good as long as it's not one of those bargin PSUs.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2038MB RAM
Hard Drive: 320 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card: SigmaTel Audio
hehe :-), the new video card will replace that 1, how do you guys think all that will run quake wars?

Easily, but OC that cpu if you buy GTX, it should do around 3ghz easily. Also how many ampers do you have in 12V rails of your psu, and what brand is it?

Like I said, if it's a bargin CPU, invest $150 into a good brand name. Unstable voltage is why bargin PSUs are such a bargin. I upgraded to an OCZ 720W Modular PSU so if I want I can SLI them. But the new PSU is worth it.

huh? overclock? whats that mean? and how do i do it? lol
lol As far as the PSU, i have no idea, only reason i even know its 500w is cause i called the manufacturer with the model #. The powersupply is discreetly hidden into the top of the case.

Err...overclock means to clock the part higher and force more performance out of it. This can be done with incrased clock speeds as well as voltage. You do it in the bios..if you dont know how then don't touch that because the best bet is you'll screw something up and fry your CPU. If it looks like a cheap PSU it's most likly a bargin bin PSU and you'll need a new one if you dont want to toast the 8800GTX.

overclocking sounds nice but a bit risky... :-( Either way if i really only have 500w, i doubt i want to OC a 450 requirement vid card.
As for the PSU, i doubt its crappy because this is a manufactured gaming rig with duo core, 7600GS and all, really think theyd give me a crap PSU? The comp came with all this stuff except the extra 1gig of ram, it only had 1 gig when i bought it. Is there anyway to check the PSU?

They do that to save costs. Thats why I custom build my PCs so I know all the specs and can make sure everything is right. If you bought the rig then more than likely it's a cheap PSU. And I'm not even going to touch my vid cards clock speeds till I get my quad core CPU.

ok...so is there a way i can check what my PSU is like? besides taking apart my computer and pulling it out
also, why do you need a quad core to mess with your clock speeds? i doubt any video card out right now would require a quad core, most games dont even take full advantage of duo core

as long as you have a very good CPU you will be happy with ur 8800GTX, if u have a crappy CPU, it will not run that good;).
Few days ago I have upgraded my pc aswell, have a AMD X2 3800+, but didnt buy the 8800 cards cause it wouldnt run that good anyway. Now have a 7950GT, which performs nearly as good as the 8800GTS

My set up is like ghost_op except I have a 7600gt and my PSU is a thermaltake 430w. I want to get a 8800 gts. I have the recommend watts but its the amps that worries me. The specs recommend 26 amp on the +12v but mine only gives 18 does it really matter. I will only have the motherbroad, cpu, dvd drive, hard drive, and the new card receiving the power. Do I really have to upgrade the PSU?

Yes it really matters. if you don't have the needed amps your card will run on low specs which is crap.

Moncealyo, you have 18A in 12V rail, but you should have 2 of those rails, and 12V1 + 12V2 rails = total amps. Thermaltake is good brand too.

Personall, I would go with the GTS. The GTX is just so expensive. But, if you have money to burn and you want THE best, then why not...

Here is what my thermaltake 430 chart has for max load
+5 v / +3.3v / +12v / -5v /-12v /+5vsb
30A / 28A / 18A / 0.5A /0.8A / 2A
This isn't good enough for the 8800 gts huh?

because right now I have an overclocked PentiumD. A quadcore CPU will greatly improve my performance.

Maybe I'm reading the chart wrong but I only have 18amps going through the +12v. The recommend is 26 amps through the +12v. Can you explain?

You don't need to pull it out of the case, just open the side panel, specs are on the side of the PSU.
I'll pm you the bank account you can deposit the 5k ;)

Hmmm, wasn't there 12V1 and 12V2 rails? You should have 2x 12V rails there.

my case is built in a way where you can't see anything but the bottom of the PSU unless you pull it out. :-/

Oh you have P150 or similar with PSU at bottom, well it's not much work to pull it out either.

the 8800 is a great card, chuck of alot of heat though make sure your case is well vented

Ok i know i can run the game but how well do you think i can:
Specs:
3.07 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
i have an asus 800gtx 768 and its awesome a few m8s got the evga, its the overclockers choice tbh.
The asus one comes with lots of cool software and extras and i paticular need the gametheatre software that records all that you do to an avi like fraps but with no loss of FPS :)
if you dont need that functionality that yes the EVGA is a very good choice and will easily clock to the acs3 and KO clock speeds with no effort at all,
you will need more that 18 amd on your 12v rail but dabs.com etc.. have a value range that do 35amps on 12v for £35 ($70) so im sure it wont be astumbling block
as the new ATI card seems to be only capable of 8800gts speeds this is definatly the best card to get for your next year of gaming in dx10 etc..
