Has somebody already gained some experiences on how much ram and cpu the linux server is using with a certain (higher) ammount of players (12-32) on it? For now I've had a maximum of five players at the server which wasn't very conclusive

RAM seems to be consistant from 0-18 players. CPU peaked at 48% on a Celery 2.8ghz (uuuuuuggggggh)

RAM usage was 256 MB for me (16 Players).

spikes up to 300-400mb of ram
25-30% CPU usage
with a full 32 player server
im too iffy to run a second server off the same box lol. im actually surprised how these gameserver providers run so many servers off one box.. probably running it off virtual memory which is the reason the ranked servers lag more.
but ya be prepared to dedicated alot of resources (at the moment) for a full 32 player server if you want no lag on it ofcourse..
also make sure you got the bandwith supported for the game
i am not sure why the 'default' network rate is set at 16000 for server and client, i checked through lagometer, this causes alot of yellow packets (which means lost packets)
i bumped my server up to 25000 rate, ofcourse the client themselves will have to have their client setup for 25000 aswell to get the full effect. but i have told some people on my server to set it up to 25000, and it does help a bit at chokepoints when there is alot going on. especially on the larger servers

Running with 22 bots per server (for testing):
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
10431 qwbetate 15 0 272m 204m 12m R 24 0.8 1:39.44 etqwded.x86
10597 qwbetate 15 0 271m 204m 12m S 24 0.8 1:27.52 etqwded.x86
CentOS Linux 4.5, 2 x Quad Core (8 cores total), 24 gigs of RAM, 10k RPM WD Raptors, and hardware RAID 5 with 256mb.

played on the 72.5.248 addy server... approximately 22 or so players at the time for at least two maps. seemed relatively stable. some laggishness, which i'm sure will be cleaned up in the final release.

Did anybody measure the network traffic caused by a 32 player server ? Need to know what kind of connection is required for that, if the server is not housed at an ISP with a 1gbit backbone.

125kbit per client is probably a safe estimate, as it the default max server rate. Generally, you'll only see half of that, until we get VoIP that is which will obviously shoot up bandwidth very quickly.
