View Full Version : Username Reservation

The first part is clear: someone pre-orders ET:QW, gets the code, fills in the desired username, couple details, receives the Thank You, your username is reserved email.

Next you need a CD-Key to fully activate that username. But does it have to be this exact CD-Key that comes with the exact copy I pre-ordered or will any valid key do?

As an example: Bob pre-orders ET:QW, he lives in Scotland. He picked an username, received the Thank You email. A couple months later ET:QW comes out but Bob lives in Russia now, he moved. He goes to a store in Russia and gets himself a copy, comes home, opens that Username Activation page, fills in the russian CD-Key and...

...yes, and will this work or will he be required to call his brother in Scotland and ask for the other CD-Key?

Oh, and one more question: Someone buys ET:QW (not a pre-order) and is allowed to register 3 usernames. So one CD-Key = 3 usernames... does that mean that if my house burns down and I'll loose everything my usernames will be gone too because they are linked to that exact CD-Key or will any CD-Key do?

Methinks if your house burns down you will have a bit more to worry about than your cd key, your computer and desk and kitchen etc. will all be gone:rolleyes:

I guess the cd keys will be added to your account, like in Guild Wars. Doesn't matter where it is from.

Whilst it seems technically possible for me to change the linked CD-key if you can still log-in using some kind of master account, I don't know if Activision will support CD-key changes.

"Un-registering" a cd-key could help the second-hand game industry though, contrary to Steam where a bought game cannot be sold to someone else without handing over your whole Steam account. (AFAIK, I haven't looked into all dark areas of the Steam mechanisms.)

So, I put in my info... but I still haven't received any email. It is possible I made a typo in the email I submitted, because it is a new email. If this is the case, what should I do if I don't ever get that email from id?

And what are you going to do with your username when you have lost your computer, game, internet and basicly everything you need to play the game?

I pre-ordered mine from Play.com (UK) and I haven't had any code to pre-register my username... what gives?

Though I would agree that I wouldn't think of gaming in such a situation...

A lot of people have had problems with play.com, have a read at this thread (http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16376) on the splash damage forums. Seems a lot of users cancelled from play and ordered from GAME instead... that's what i did, got my key 5 days later.

I have never seen this man before in my life. Do not trust him, he is dangerous. Not that I'd know, as I said I've never seen him before in my life.

*backs away slowly*

tbh do you think that splashdamage have actually finalised all the parts to do with the cdkey/username/account area?

Seeing as the beta has been delayed I'm doubting they have the time to worry about the details that are only needed once the game is nearing full completiton which if you think there is most likely going to be at least 2-4 weeks between beta and release, is still a very long time away

I think any other system than letting any CD key be valid would be a nightmare to handle, also all CD keys is usually hidden inside the case or box so how would they be able to match them? Giving the distributers the CD keys would just lead to people stealing some of them.

Insurance covers your house.

Insurance doesn't get you your ETQW username :P

I always figured that the accounts were going to be universal accounts, of sorts. Kind of like how an MMORPG account system works. You make your account with a valid CD-Key, thus proving you bought it at least once, then your account will be accessable from any computer with ETQW on it.

For instance, you go to a friend's house and he has ETQW, instead of playing as your friend, you can log into your account and play as yourself.

I was under the impression that it would work like that, in which case after you create your account with a valid CD-Key, as long as ETQW is installed, you can access your account. In other words the CD-Key is linked to the account, not the other way around. Maybe I'm wrong though?

Im pretty sure he's correct, look at BF2 and BF2142, both are cd-key saved onto your accounts once you register it, after that you can use it anywhere, only downfall was that if your friend had booster packs it would only be registered onto his account so you wouldnt beable to access the same data through your own.. so im pretty sure something like that will be involved with ETQW

I had the same problem. I contacted Activision Support. After a few days of emailing (due to time differences) it turned out that "some ISP's" were not receiving the automated confirmation emails.
The solution was the support guy got me to create an online email account (I used gmail) and he resent the confirmation email to it.

If I was you I'd get onto it right away.

Well the execution of this part of the process is a tad rough around the edges,as of yet I still haven't recieved the code.
