I'm playing Quake 4 on the Xbox 360, not that many people play on this version. I'm thinking about running out to get the computer version of Quake 4. So my question is, are people playing on the computer version more then the Xbox version?

I've never played the Xbox 360 version, but I do play the PC version every once in a while. I never have problems finding any games.

I have the PC Version, had it since last christmas (christmas '05) and I loved it when i first got it. Gave it off to a friend when i started playing Wolf and Bf2, then asked for it back last week, tried to install, and it won't! Sigh, i miss that game, but i'll make it until QW.

I played the game again today, theres not a wide variety of active servers, but always seem to be a few game choices to hop into.

Single Player is pretty fun, just cool to look at the levels. However online play blows.

Quake 4 online is like Quake 3: Arena with different weapons. In my opinion, if you're gonna play a game like Quake 3: Arena, just play Quake 3: Arena.

Q4 MP might be like Q3, but it's just worse. Dissapointemnt for me.

SP mode is great. Very good game, that i enjoyed. But MP, like NoControl said, is crap. Worse than Q3.

If you get it, I'm always up for a dm play.
There is an opencoop mod for it, which brings Co-operative gameplay to the single player levels. IMO, the Single player of Quake 4 was great. Simple shooting, with a wide range of environments and strategies.

You know the feeling in your stomach that you get, when you eat something really rotten. Well thats the best I can sum up q4.mp for you. ITS CRAP.

for those of you who think the q4mp is terrible: what exactly makes it terrible?

is it the graphics (whether textures or models), the gameplay (weapon balance and movement), the maps, the engine, etc? is it caused by changes made to the q3 dynamics, or because there were no real changes at all?

I just don't see a purpose in playing it when I can play Q3. They didn't even get to the point where it was a Quake3 clone-- it was inferior in many ways, especially performance, weapon balance (ugh railgun) and not many stock maps that were good for 1v1.

How do you manage to aim with a controller? I'd play it on quake4 just to have a better experience tbh, accuracy % would improve going from one to the other hugely.

how is the quake 4 online multiplayer... i was always curiousIt was what the fans asked for: similar to Quake 3. And once it got released, people said "but it's a Q3 clone!".

Just more proof that people don't know what they want.

Q4 didn't move an inch from Q3, which I found kind of sad. It seemed like they wasted all the time on the Singleplayer side of the game, and then slapped 2-3 multiplayer models with 2-3 skins and copied all the other stuff from previous quake versions with more polygons and bigger textures. Q4 was a letdown in my eyes, Raven isn't up to the task when it comes to a series as big as Quake.

Quake 4 MP is, in my eyes, completely different to Quake 3. While yes, the gametype is the same, but the actual 'feel' is more solid and somehow, bigger (As in, your character is bigger in the maps, rather than smaller people in Q3 - sounds rediculous)
However, why fix what aint broke? Quake 3 MP ruled, as does Quake 4.

If Quake4 really was an exact clone of Q3, then that would be good. However, the first releases of Quake4 were inferior in nearly every way. If Quake4 took the Quake3 deathmatch formula, and improved on it, as id did in many people's eyes with the previous incarnations, then you would have an excellent point. But to claim that when in fact the clone did not meet the original is ignoring some of the information.

Mind you I've all the respect for Raven in the world, but the release was a bit of a disaster. They made an excellent decision in bringing on SyncError as the "community guy" but I feel it was too late at that point.

With that said, I still enjoyed Q4 SP and MP, however there were very good reasons that the game wasn't adopted more widely.

Quake 4 is prdominantly dueling. There is some good insta CTF and freeze tag servers that are always crowded. The game does not have a very big community tho.

me and friend just got back into quake 4, I wouldn't mind practicing a bit with some other people. 2v2 Freezetag on 1v1 maps is a ton of fun.

Yeah I play freezetag now and then.. unfortunatley I hav't played in long enough that now to connect to any servers is a nightmare :(

I played it when it came out, and it didn't play very well, but after the updates, i played again, and i found it sweet. The graphics are Q4, the gameplay is Q3, my only complaint is the lack of power of the q4 "BFG", but q3's bfg is nothing either. Q2's BFG was the BFG.

I usually play on normal CTF servers and get a kick out of it. I have some movies on Youtube.

Problem is, people are spreading thin between communities of quake 2 ( that still go) quake 3, quake 4 (which didn't get many people) and now quake wars, not counting UT2k3, 2k4, UT original, CS, CS:S, and stuff, people branch off and there aren't enough gamers to fill the servers for any game.

It's because Quake 4 simply isn't n online game. It's more of an afterthought "Oh yeah, and lets put some DM in." If you get Quake 4, it's for the singleplayer campaign.

The Co op sounds fun though. Though it has to be alot harder then Quake 4 on the hardest mode then.

How many of the haters have tried the 1.4.2 patch?
Heck, after getting accustomed to crouchsliding and the Q4Max 0.78d changes, I can't get back to Q3A anymore.

It's a nice change of pace from QW, pure speed deathmatching. And yes, better than the UT3 beta demo
