Let's play fanboys for a while. List game developers you like the most, because of games they made and/or support.

ID Software
Splash Damage
Human Head Studios (Developers of Hexen*, Heretic, Hexen2, Rune, Prey)
Relic (Homeworld1, 2, Warhammer 40k, Company of Heroes. Really great and original games !)
Looking Glass (System Shock 2, Thief1, Thief2)
Blizzard (While I have mixed feelings about games they make, their support, battlenet etc are superb. One of few game developers who focus on quality and long-term support)
Epic (Unreal, UT etc. again, a bit mixed feelings, I like some games and some not, but support is good and they support Linux)
Westwood (Command and Conquer minus Tiberian Sun and Generals and Tiberium Wars; Nox, Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder, Dune2.... while their support sucked big time compared to Blizzard, I prefer their RTS formula to Blizzard's a lot)

------------EDIT-------
Yeah, these two really deserve it
Bioware (Really good RPGs)
Bullfrog (Dungeon Keeper1,2 ; Syndicate, Magic Carpet1,2)

* The people worked in Raven Software at the time, but left to create their own company

I've been an id Software fan since I was a child, I just didn't know it. I played all their games since Commander Keen to Quake 4. I enjoy most games but id Software games are what I look forward to.

Actually, the more I think about it, this more I realise I should have said this:

EA

Blucid
05-13-2007, 09:13 PM
Isn't EA a publisher more then a developer other then all the sports games out there. EA did not make any BF games, until they bought out Dice. EA does not know how to create quality games, so they just go around a buy out everyone and then destroy good projects, cause they are whiny assholes.

Rockstar games

Not a developer. Rockstar Games is a brand and a division of Take Two (a publisher) which consists of a bunch of games studios. GTA is developed by Rockstar North, which is one of many studios which are part of Rockstar Games.

Bullfrog - dungeon keeper one and two (neither of which work on xp ;_; )
Bethesda softworks - Morrowind. Just morrowind. All day. Every day.

I really dislike Bethesda Softworks. Their releases are always really buggy, and instead of fixing bugs they release crappy expansion packs and mini content add-ons which they charge money for.

I would agree that oblivion was a big dissapointment for me. Morrowind however retains a place in my personal best games ever collection

Hmm, I'll skip the ones you listed in the OP, but some I'd put alongside:

Looking Glass Studios - responsible for Thief 1/2, where I have gotten my fetish for sneaky gameplay, and System Shock 1/2

New World Computing (NWC) - responsible for the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise.

Bungie. (Halo FTW!)

Id Software. (I love them for the Doom and Quake series.)

Splash Damage. (Not really payed much attention to them, but I'm pretty sure they are the ones for designing the Enemy Territory gameplay, am I right?)

Massive Entertainment. (Creators of the Ground Control series and World in Conflict.)

Blizzard Entertainment. (I've never really liked their games, nothing in my taste atleast, but their community and development team sure is great!)

The Creative Assembly. (The Total War series.)

Bioware. (Best RPG developers, ever!)

Valve. (Creators of Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and the Half Life series.)

Well, i think you guys are wrong including Splash damages in your lists. Some of you didnt play RTCW:ET. And this, -yes it was great, but that is not the point-, was a remake of RTCW, full game, yeah, but only one game, not enough to get the level of others, like Valve, Bioware...

This is the second game they develop. I think they are has a bright future, but i dont see them as best company ever...really.

Human Head Studios (Developers of Hexen*, Heretic, Hexen2, Rune, Prey)

Just FYI.. heritic, hexen and hexen 2 were all developed by Raven, Prey was developed by 3dRealms.. although human head does get a plug in the opening vid.

EDIT: Sorry I looked up prey 3drealms is the producer so Human head was the dev.

MYLIST:
1) id
2) epic
3) bungie (even thier old RTS games were great)
honorable mention.. Singletrac.. the company dosn't exist anymore.. and only released 5 or 6 games (not-including sequels), but they were all kickass. The company ended up splitting becuase of differences between members of the ownership.

I graded my list based soley on the games th ecompany has released, not quntity. Every game produced by these companies I have found up to a level of quality sadly lacking in the industry.

They didn't? Who did make Counter-Strike and Team Fortress then?

Walker, Cook and Caughley made Team Fortress in Australia. They formed Team Fortress Software that was working on Team Fortress 2 before they were bought out by Valve. Valve made Team Fortress Classic, but not the original which was for quake 1 or quakeworld.

Minh "Gooseman" Le and Jess "Cliffe" Cliffe were the modders that created Counter-Strike.
