I installed et:qw demo tonight and, like when i tried to start the public beta client, an error showed up:

It wasn't possible to start the appliction because the side-by-side config is incorrect. Take a look at the Event Regist of the Application for more details.

Sorry for my bad english, but I can't find the answer to this problem in portuguese websites...

Is this an issue related to video resolution or something like that?

Resolution? I dunno, but i have the last drivers from ATI (7.9)

If it is from the resolution, how can i change it?

I downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package but when I try to install it I got error
"command line option syntax error. type command /? for help"

why i cant install it??

make shure that bitdefender, firewall or antivirus software does not block etqw!

Make sure the drivers you're using are directly from ATI or the manufacturer and aren't 3rd party drivers (someone reported Omega drivers causing problems).

I too am getting the side-by-side error and it's very frustrating. Tried removing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package and installing
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package and that fails on install. I've tried both the X86 and the X64 versions and they both fail. Even tried removing completely and reinstalling the demo by itself and had no luck.Also tried the latest Nvidia drivers (162.22) and even the beta (162.44) and neither helped.

Unreal, I think you should write "device manager" in the search box when you hit start in vista.
Then you should expand the "display adapter" tree and right click the graphics card in it.
Press uninstall, and when prompted if you wish to remove the driver software click yes.

Now you go online to www.ati.amd.com and download catalyst 7.9 driver.
You can identify the driver version by looking at the name of the file you are downloading. it should mention catalyst 7.9 in some way.
restart the computer before and after you install the new driver.

yes, this is very important. that's the problem that causes the side-by-side error. you should see how you can fix this. i have no idea what it does to cause that error, but when it can't eg register a component, then you might get problems.

yes, i downloaded the file and put it into My Documents.
Then i unninstalled everything that has "ATI".
Restarted.
Installed.

btw, Joe999, I don't understand much of computers, that's why i'm on panic. besides, this computer is new, my father will get angry if i tell him that i can't install the drivers in a computer with just a few days...

get the driver cd that came with your computer. install the driver from the cd.

this looks like it didn't correctly install the drivers and hence runs in vga mode. do as rafty says: get the dvd that came with the computer and install the graphics drivers from there. those won't be the current 7.9 ones though, but i guess it will solve your problem.

this laptop was parcially paid from my father and from me.

1- I'm not sure if this laptop has any Drivers CD. But my laptop stuff is on the garage. Gotta wait my mom arrives. :S

well, my mom has arrived, and there isn't any drivers cd in the computer stuff. There's only one cd. It is to reinstall Windows and all the Toshiba stuff again. hat's another way tio get the drivers back.

- doubbleclick the video card in the device manager
- click on drivers and then on "update drivers"
- then let it search for a driver
- if it finds something named ATI... - choose it and click ok
- restart windows
