X800XTPE 256MB
opteron 165 (dual core 64bit)
2gb ddr

In vista, the game hardlocks after 30 seconds to 7 minutes. But it invariably hardlocks, complete with sound buffer repeat followed by silence and a frozen screen (last frame of game, not black). It plays the game fine while it runs, but then it eventually just locks.

In XP, everything works as it should.

Installed cat7.9 on both Vista and XP.

Any ideas?

Still locking up computer :[
It seems to work fine if I join an empty server and I just shoot walls and jump around, but if I join a full server it locks pretty quickly. I have all of the gfx settings on ultra low to try to avoid problems with anything fancy... but it doesnt help.

I have run orthos and memtest for awhile to ensure it's not a hardware problem.

Ah I just posted a thread about the same problem. (http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8532)

Im on a nVidia 8800GTX so if you're having the same problem with an ATI card it's probably not the GFX drivers fault. Guess the game isn't optimised for Vista then.

How are you getting an error message? Mine just freezes with the contents of the screen up on the monitor and the sound quits after about 10 seconds. And that's it. No errors, no nothing, just done.

I might go out and buy an 8800gts 320mb, just to see if it works.

There's an error message in the Windows logbooks about it though (check my topiclink I gave in my earlier post).

I have Windows Vista Professional, 32bit, and I'm getting the same problems. At first I started to panic, thinking my equipment was failing on me, until I realized it was only this game.

I'm sort of relieved to see it's not my computer, but most likely the game at fault (at least I hope.) Worked just fine for 1.1, but 1.2 and a few minutes in I get a hardlock. After committing to the 3-key-salute, I may get a bluescreen. If I do manage to get to the task manager and end the program, my PC will bluescreen in a few moments anyway.

And here I thought my PC problems were starting up again because I reinstalled that shamble of coding called Planetside. Vista has been my most stable OS to date (ironically enough) and I don't want that to change so soon.

Pity, I really like this game too. Been a while since I had a decent non-realism based shooter.

LOL! Sometimes information technology is really funny!

You are forced to play it on XP, because Vista make it crash.

I am forced to play it on Vista, because XP make it crash ("when hitting ESC" in particular).

I have no prob. on Vista [Punisher crosses his fingers].
