I have mouse lag issues in the game (including the menus) where all mouse movement suffers a slight, but debilitating, delay.
I do not have this delay in any other games (cs, q3, etc) nor any other programs or on the desktop. It is not an fps issue as it runs with a minimum 30fps (locked or unlocked) all the time.
My system specs:
Athlon 64 3500+
EVGA 6600gt
2gb DDR 400
Windows XP SP2
I use a logitech mx500 with 9.80 rev0 drivers.
Please help! Game is unplayable with this mouse delay. Thanks!

I have mouse lag issues in the game (including the menus) where all mouse movement suffers a slight, but debilitating, delay.
For menu:
seta com_fixedtic "1"
(No more laggy mouse in menu. And no more 30FPS cap in menu)
For online play:
seta com_unlockFPS "1"
seta com_unlock_timingmethod "0"
seta com_showFPS "1"
For play against computer:
Nothing you can do about 30FPS cap, when plaing against computer.

This fixed my mouse lag in the menus. But, this variable is forced back to 0 whenever I join a multiplayer game and when I try to change it back to 1 it says this cannot be changed in multiplayer mode. What gives?

I really like having this fixed as well. It's nearly impossible to aim if my gun is half a second behind my mouse.
Setup:
P4 2.8Ghz
6800GT
1GB DDR400
MSI 865 P-FISR
Audigy 2ZS
Logitech MX510 Mouse with and without logitech drivers
G15 Keyboard
Both in XP SP2 and Vista Ultimate (with and without logitech drivers)

Me too! I also have a logitech mouse a G5, I have tried it with a razer copperhead from a friend but its the same. I dont use the logitech software either so thats not related. I do use timingmethod 1 though if that makes any difference

i bought a G5 today, plugged it in and have no problems at all
One of the problems is that m_smooth is forced to at least "1"
Tbh.. I have never played any game with mouse smoothing! m_smooth is aim killer!!
seta m_smooth "8" and check out if you are even able to hit a tank or building :D

Damn, have the same mouse and thought it was a flaw and wanted to go back to store to exchange it.
Hmm, have to get used to it too,i guess:)

I use that button for iron sights so use it all the time, otherwise it would have taken much longer to get used to. I found arching my finger so the tip of the finger sits on the button made it easier.
I use 1.7g in the weight cartridge lol, the tin that they came in looks cool though :oppressor:

indeed, and how it glides on my desk with that teflon coat :)
i have probs too with that mouse wheel down, it's harder to press compared to my previous mouse. gotta get used to it. i also thought about rebinding the mouse wheel click to the mouse wheel left/right which is a lot easier to press. but for that i need to install that software of which i read some troubles here on the forum.

I've been working on a different mouse input method that might help people. How are Doom 3 and/or Quake 4 for you btw?
The reason m_smooth is a minimum of 1 is because that means 'use one sample'. So m_smooth 1 == no smoothing.

Great you're looking into this, as far as I can remember, I've never had any input problems with Doom3 and Quake4. Quake3 was the best of all of course.
I'll install Quake4 tonight or tomorrow and compare.
I've noticed that the lag is most pronounced when fps hit just below 30fps, so probably when the game gets out-of-sync-?? with the tics JBRAA talked about.

I get mouse "lag" too, but not as bad as it was when I had Logitech's software installed.
If you are using Setpoint, DON'T. Uninstall it immediately. It works SO much better without it.

Thank you so much for your reply. It speaks volumes about how much Splash Damage cares about its would-be customers.
As for D3 and Q4, I've played both and don't remember any mouse lag. Unfortunately, I don't have either of them installed or with me so I can't install/run them and double check. But, that said, if I had this problem in either of those games I would have distinctly remembered. The mouse lag makes the game pretty much unplayable.
Would you care to elucidate on what fixedtic does and why it is reset whenever a multiplayer game is joined (forced back to 0)? Again, when I set fixedtic to 1 the mouse lag disappears from the menus but returns in multiplayer games ( because it gets reset to 0 ).
Thanks!

Just a quick note. I don't have mouse lag in any other games but ETQW. Games that I've played without mouse lag include quake engine games (CS, DOD, etc), Source Engine games (CS:S, HL2, etc), q3 engine games (ET, q3, cod, etc), unreal engine games (ut2k3, ut2k4), and strategy games (starcraft, warcraft 3, sup com, etc). This is not a complete list, just for a quick reference. I also uninstalled the drivers and had the same mouse lag.
This leads me to believe it is not the logitech drivers and is ETQW itself.

I want to echo this issue once more, as I get a distinct mouse lag both in the menu and in multiplayer. I'm using a mx518 w/o setpoint and I'm running the usual CS/Q3A/desktop apps without a similar problem.

Compressed sounds does not help me, timingmethod 0 helps, but still, for example in limbo menu, now I already accidentaly pressed respawn a few times because that mouse lags behind my movement.

in D3 and Q4 people wont notice the mouse lag as much because they are running at 60fps. but in etqw running at 30fps it is very noticeable. is it possible for you to perform the mouse input calcuations during the unlocked intermediate frames along with the prediction used for creating unique graphical frames? it should be possible to unlock any aspect of the game that doesnt involve rounding errors (as rounding errors -> fps dependent behaviour).

if you knew what that cvar does, and the philosophy of the physics of the idTech4 engine, then you wouldn't be asking that question.

For me the mouse lag was pretty bad with my G5 - I'm currently using a mx518 and it seems to have gotten a little better, but in Quake 4/Doom 3 I was getting mouse lag there too. Made Quake unplayable for me as it lagged so hard it would actually lock up (and it wasn't even hitting 1/5 of the mouse malfunction speed) :/
It's better in QW though. It's glad to see you guys are looking at it :)

Yeah I am getting a similar or same problem. When I make really fast mouse movements (ie try to spin around 180) it just freezes. In ETQW is the only time this happens, never happened in another game or in the desktop in xp.
Mouse = logitech MX518 (I have the setpoint drivers installed, might try uninstalling them)
When I unlock the FPS it helps alot but still stutters / freezes if I move it really fast.
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if SD come up with anything

For my testings:
timmingmethod 1 + v-sync 1 = 60 constant FPS with mouse lag
timmingmethod 1 + v-sync 0 + com_unlock_maxfps 60 = 60 constant FPS without much notice about mouse lag
timmingmethod 0 + v-sync 0 = +/- 130 FPS without much notice about mouse lag
So I assume that v-sync is strictly related with mouse lag.
Also its a real pain for LCD users having v-sync off as tearing in this engine is very noticeable if your are not able to achieve high frame rates.
I would realy like to understand why mouse input is an issue with this engine having v-sync on, as in other games even with lower frame rates, movements feel much more responsive.

That is indeed correct. V sync waits for your monitor to refresh to display the next frame, thus you will get a short delay after moving the mouse to seeing it move on the screen.
My only problem with quake wars is that this mouse lag gets much worse sometimes and my fps are always at 60... Normally for me it will depend on the server that i am playing on which is odd.

the intensity of the mouse lag seems to depend on the server - i connected to an empty server and the lag disappeared in game and menu but it comes back when i go offline

Good for the Technical explanation but in the case of QW this short delay that would be rather noticeable in other games, here is like lightyears.
Seriusly I feel sad for this issue. Its not a minor problem for a game which was meant to be the sequel of Quake or RTCW:ET.
I mean, thought that hardcore gamers should have been taken into account by the time of developement and things like this "softwarelike" mouse input lag and a 30fps default capping should have been just as unacceptable to you as it is for us.
Not to mention some other issues with the game, I think your loosing many potential cutomers because of this. :(

I'm having the same problem on my laptop with a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 with the latest drivers (just updated a few days ago). I don't have the mouse lag problem in the menu, but I do in game, and I didn't have the problem in the demo version, just the retail version after installing it today. I have no fps problems or any other lag of any kind or anything, the only thing different is the mouse delay...extremely frustrating.
EDIT: I guess it might be worth mentioning I have Vista Ultimate on a Centrino Duo T5450 (1.66 ghz), 2 GB of ram and a ATI Radeon HD2600 (1024 MB of memory, 256 MB on the card itself)

Anyone know if QW limits the resolution or Refresh rate of the mouse somehow?
sivvo
10-03-2007, 04:12 AM
afaik in QW fps is limited, that affects the cursor too in mp it seems to depend on the server - switch on the lagometer (type in console "net_clientlagometer 1") and have you ever connected to an empty server?

If you turn off the timing methods then you wont get the mouse lag. All of you just dont want to do that for reason a and b
a: Turning off the timing method is not working because your not setting it correctly
b: You dont want to uncap your fps because you dont get overall fps while playing or you want to totaly max out your graphics and cap it at 30 so its semi smooth and you get all the eye candy
But 30fps is NOT good for a first person shooter. This is not a mouse problem if you cap your fps in any other first person shooter it will have the same lag.

I had this same problem with mouse being terribly laggy. I tried Doom 3, Quake 4, and Quake Wars... Same problem. Then I decided to try disabling my second monitor (I run two monitors in DualView on my 8800GTS), and PRESTO! With only one monitor running, I get no mouse lag in any of the games, they all work flawlessly.
Let me know if this works for any of you, and if so, maybe it'll help find a problem for it.

Disabling secondary monitor did seem to help, but not a valid option to play a game.

use an autoexec.cfg to unlock fps
if you don't know how read this: http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2042
i had the same problem and it comes from the limited fps
i would recommend timingmethod 1 with maxfps 90

what about those of us who buy the game simply to play it and expect it to work as we all hope it would. All I read about are tweaks on how to adjust fps based on vsync and other variables. I want the best out of my games as well but I don't think anyone, user or guru, should have to tweak all these console settings to get a game to run smoothly.
sivvo
10-16-2007, 10:59 AM
i totally agree
for those who don't like to write such files i post my autoexec - it is a txt file just rename it to autoexec.cfg an copy it into
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\sdnet\[ingameusername]\base
it only works when playing online
to see fps in game type in console com_showfps 1 (or 0 to hide)

Question:
by creating an autoexec file it makes me wonder, do I have to type those commands in every time I launch the game for them to work? Is that why you created this file?
BTW, not that those commands aren't helpful but in the end it was uninstalling my Setpoint software that stopped the mouselag issue I was having.
(and to be on the safe side, I am using the autoexec.cfg)
sivvo

in an autoexec you can make setting that are loaded each time you start the game

I have a Razer Copperhead and I get mouselag too. It's not as bad as it used to be I did some tweaking and it's alot better. My mouse doesnt feel as responsive as it does in other games. My aim is affected by this alot and causes alot of deaths on my part. It makes it alot harder to try and follow a persons head with my crosshair when they are moving.

I turned on the FPS display and it is horrid -- like 8fps when I bring up the options menu. I've applied all those settings in the autoexec to unlock things and it still is terrible. I'll disable my second monitor and try again.
Maybe I need to do some more searching on video card perf. I have the latest driver. This is crazy. One more night trying go get it going and I give up.
FWIW, my system isnt uber, but should be okay:
