Resolution Switch

I've downloaded the demo few hours ago, installed, runned.
i tried first to change resolution from 640*480 (default) to 1024*768, screen turned black (as every generic resolution change) and then pc freezed with music gone in loop. Rebooted and tried to change it to 800*600: same problem...

I managed to play online an hour, but you know, 640*480 makes it look like ugly :p .

Heres my spec:
Centrino 1.7GHz
1GB RAM
GeF 6600go 128MB (Forceware 78.10)
17" 16:10 (even tought it could be some screen ratio setting problem)

I've Half-solved the problem:

I write the solution, maybe it could be useful for someone.

Go in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\Documenti\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars Demo\base

open "etqwconfig.cfg"

change rows to:

seta r_aspectRatio "0"
seta r_customHeight "1024"
seta r_customWidth "768"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_displayRefresh "60"
seta r_mode "5"

Half-solved because when i clic Disconnect, pc freezes before going to main menu...

Any ideas?

Have you tried to ESC to get to the options, go to the Setting tab and changing resolution there? Make sure you select the right aspect ratio first, then screen res, the hit the Apply button

ok dude got the same problem , got a normal 19 tft no widescreen (benq fp93 gx+) and an amd athlon 64 x2 +3800 , 1 gig ram and a 7800 gt

from start in settings theres 5:4 and 800 X 600 , but i wanna get 1024 or more pls help :rolleyes:

I get the same problem changing resolutions. It with give me the Default 800*600 16:10Wide or I can do a custom 800*600 16:10Wide with Lighting, Foliage, Shaders Effects at Normal with Terrain, Debris & Shader Level at High with Anti-Alisasing at 2X. If I change resolutions or aspect ratios it goes to a black screen, after 45sec I can hear the music and escape. ctr-alt-del, etc won't work, if I just wait 2mins I get a NV4_disp blue screen of death. I've tried setting screen resolution to game resolution,...same.

My Specs:
Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop
Intel Duo Core T2400 1.83Ghz
2 gigs 667MHz DDR2 ram
Geforce Go 7800 256megs
WUXGA 17" in. screen (at 1440x900 res)
WindowsXP Pro sp2
DirectX 9
ForceWare 78.59 A01 (1/06)

Try setting your aspect ratio to 4:3. If you're looking at 5:4 ratios, you'll only see those resolutions.

Thanks Ifurita, I tried changing the aspect ratio and it doesn't work. I can only use the Default or Auto Detect (to High).

Jesus I cant belive we are having this much trouble setting resolution ( me included). How long do you guys need to sort out simple stuff like this?


Its putting the game further and further down my, and I am sure, others, purchase list:)

wtf? no1 can simulate all this different hard and software configurations of all the players around the world. even though too much ppl forgot to post their systemspecs/operating system...



here's my suggestion:
-> download the latest drivers for your videocard
-> uninstall the old drivers (maybe use a drivercleaner tool)
-> install the latest drivers

Exactely the same problem. Can't switch the resolution (only 800*600) if i change, crash and reboot :(

GeForce7950GX2
Forceware 165.01
Windows xp SP2

Same problem... black screen then blue screen of death.

now, i know the problem may be the Driver, but last time when i updated to the latest driver, BF2 doesn't load up. It says, cannot display in this mode.. 1. Analog or something. Got so scared, that i did a system restore so I can play my twl match and forgot to check to see if QW works.

So has anyone found another solution other than updating the driver lol.

problem fixed. Updated my Driver and it works fine now. Also when I downloaded the Driver and set my display settings to clone which is why it couldn't display BF2.

ok i found my prob , i got a 7800 gt and with the new nvidida driver the dont support it any more , so i apllied teh latest 78gt suportet driver and it works ^^

Your right, I should have got the latest drivers, and I do have a bizzare operating system (XP) and my cpu is one of the lesser known ones ( Core 2 Duo). Your right, how could I have expected it to be compatible with my pc?The off out of date mish mesh concoction of hardware/software that it is ('nt)

I fixed my problem by downloading this driver off of the Guru3D site (optimized for GeForce Go cards): NGO NVIDIA Optimized Driver v1.16218 here's the URL:

also used the RivaTuner application suggested with settings by Herr_Doktor on this tread: http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1987
now it works and I can change resolutions :D :D

I changed my driver from 165.01 (beta) to 162.18.

I try the "Compress to DXT3 instead of DXT1" but i was already with this good setting.

By changing the etqwconfig.cfg file with "seta r_aspectRatio "2"
seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_displayRefresh "60"
seta r_mode "5"
seta r_multiSamples "0"
seta com_unlockFPS "1"

I have a 1024*768 resolution. And if i try to change the resolution in game, i got black screen, then BSOD and reboot :s

Any help ?
