Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2GB DDR
Geforce 7900GT (have tried latest stable and latest beta drivers)
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

Hey, I installed the demo today and tried to start it. But after the splash-screen the monitor goes black. After a few seconds I can hear the sound from the game but nothing happens when I press any buttons. So I have to do the famous Ctrl + Alt + Delete and log out and in again.

Tried to reinstall it on a different place on my harddrive, updated to the latest Nvidia Beta drivers (163.67), installed all the hotfixes for Vista etc.

Have checked around for some hours now and found some other people with the same problem, but they have ATI cards and they just forgot to install the new hotfix for ATI users. But I have Nvidia and my card should work great with this game.

Thankfull for all the help I can get!
Thanks.

I have the exact same problem, only when I ctr-alt-del I get a colorful screen with horzontal lines and I have to hard reset my computer.

Q6600 on P35 chipset
2GB DDR2
7900GT with latest beta drivers that were just posted to nvidia website today
Vista Ultimate

Same here... But if you press ctrl + alt + delete you can press "Down, Down and Enter" to log out. Then the screen will go back to normal.

I also get the strange green and blue lines.

Edit: Btw... We both have 7900GT. Could be it. Or it's something we installed or Vista ultimate.

Just so you know, so far I have tried copying the installed folder onto my desktop in case having it run from inside the program files directory was causing problems. I know some programs won't have write permissions there. I was actually looking for some kind of error log file but there was none that I could find.

I also tried disabling the Aero theme, which by the way cause more colorful horizontal lines, but when I rebooted, the desktop theme was the windows xp style. Tried to run the demo again but still no difference.

I think I have also tried running it as administrator. I have a feeling the problem stems from incompatbilities between our 7900GT's and Vista. Seems like other people with 7900's can run fine, and so can other people with Vista, but maybe not people with both.

Ok... I've tried running it as Administrator and also tried to change the compatibility to XP when running it. But nothing works...

Must be some problem with 7900GT + Vista. We can't do anything, so I guess we have to wait for some new demo or patch or something. Let's just hope they fix it before they launch the game. :(

Doesn't support 7900's?!?!?!!? They told us all 7000 series cards at least 7300 or higher work! I tried downloading it a second time, so I'll see if it works this time. Wish me luck :D

Yeah, I get the orange screen as opposed to the black screen... sound is in the background, I can see my xhairs and the mini-map in upper right corner, but overall, just pure orange... sort of like these smilies..

I don't see anything... no minimap, no crosshair.

I click to start the game. The screen goes black and then I hear some music. After that nothing happens. Do you get into the game?

I know!

Someone must know how to fix it. Or are we only 2-3 people in the whole world with this problem? Do we really need to install XP or buy a 8800GTX or something? I don't think there is a solution to this... :(

Just when I got everything working in Vista, don't want to reinstall XP now!

Hey. I got some "good" news... I completed a game on Vista some days after I installed the OS. Then it worked fine, after that I installed some programs etc. When I tried to start the same game now it had a black screen too!

So it has to be some program I've installed... now I must figure out what program it could be. Maybe Adaware 2007, Nero 7, Skype, Ventrilo or some other program. Will try to uninstall some of them and try again within a few days.

Edit: It wasn't Skype, Ventrilo or Ad-aware 2007. Tried to uninstall them but still the same problem. It could also be some Windows Update...

Edit 2: Uninstalled the beta of Kicks Online and the other game worked fine. But still Quake wars get a black screen

The problem is the games default setting for resolution is set to 800x600. This is not recognized by some monitors because it's too low, so here's what I did to fix it.

Go to your 'My Documents' folder and find the folder called 'id Software'.

Now open this folder and find another folder called "Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars Demo'.

Open this folder and find another folder called 'base'.

Open this folder and find the file called 'etqwconfig'.

Open this file and then click the 'Edit' button (up top).

Select 'Find', and search for the following: r_fullscreen "1"

Now, you'll need to do some editing.

You'll need to change the '1' to a '0' in the field you just searched for >> r_fullscreen "1", so it now looks like this:

r_fullscreen "0".

This will make the game launch in windowed mode. Save the changes you made to the file, but keep it handy, because in a minute, you'll need to change it back to what it was originally.

Now launch the game, and find your options for video resolution, and set it to 1024x768. Click apply and then exit the game.

Now go back to the entry you searched for earlier in your 'etqwconfig' file, and change it back to what it was before: r_fullscreen "1". Save the file again.

Now you should be able to play in full screen. Also, now you can fiddle with the resolutions to see what works best for you.

Hope this helps!

Tried it and it didn't work like it should work. But, for the first time in my life I saw the menu in this game! When I started it in windowed mode it worked, then I changed the resolution to 1024*768 or whatever, started the game in fullscreen again and got a black screen and sound in the background.

Then I tried to change it to 1280*1024 and it didn't work either when in fullscreen. So I have to play it in windowed mode right now... atleast better than nothing!

Thanks for the help, and I hope this thing gets fixed within a few days.

For the hell of it, set your desktop resolution to 1024x768 first, then launch the game and see if it works in full screen then. I own another game (Test Drive Unlimited) that I have to set the desktop resolution to 1024x768 or I get a black screen when launching it. Same thing with BF 2142. I know, it's a pain in the butt lol...

Haha OK... Will try that sometime. Need to sleep now.

Thanks for the info!
