What version of vista do you have 32Bit or 64?

Too many game issues on 64bit, so ended up going back to 32bit.

I installed the hotfix, then the game, had one instance of the game closing with an exe error, I rebooted, and it's working.

I found the error on MS..
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms235342(VS.80).aspx It looks like the game isn't Vista compliant..

I'm a software engineer/developer, my computer has to be up to date.. I've had vista since Nov when it came out on MSDN..

I just found a sight that mention a reinstall of Framework 2.0 may fix the problem. I'm downloading it now from MSDN.

On a side note for any developers out there, Visual Studio 2008 beta is downloadable from MSDN..!!! woot

Reinstall of Framework 2.0 didnt work.. Got a message saying it's already installed.. I'm going to try 3.0..

Chizl

I'm uninstalling and reinstalling and I notice this.. Without a doubt it should support my system, however the only one that I'm concerned with, which I'm not sure I understand is the chipset at the bottom. X700 or higher, X1650 or higher.. I have the X1600, which is higher than X700, but why would they speparate it out like this??

Well, I'm pretty serious about my gaming and I have a rule. If it takes this much effort to get the game running, I don't look back. Maybe next game id..

ok, I uninstall Vista went back to xp and the game installs nicely..

Now for my whining..

DEATH TIMERS!!! I HATE DEATH TIMERS!!! DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN..

What happen to the good old days of doom I, II, Quake I, II, and Tribes I, II.. Tribes Vengeance came out and I dumped it within the month because of death timers.. Played Halo for the PC when it came out and dumped it within 2 weeks because I felt like I was walking on the moon, meaning way too slow and death timers.. Everyone is putting death timers in the game, why, it sucks, put random spots for ppl to spawn or static at their own base, but remove the stupid timers.. I hate paying for a game, I'm waiting 15 to 30 second before I can play each time I die.

Play this game a bit more and you'll see why that is a very bad idea. Some objectives require a wave respawn to get the job done. The objective just can't be completed with people trickling in and then dying off. This system works very well for this type of game.
As the game has the same basic gameplay as Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I can't see one reason why you'd be surprised that ETQW works this way.
Oh, and the spawn timer for this map is 20s so the most you could wait is 20 seconds unless you were waiting for a medic and didn't tap out.

FYI, the game works fine on vista (x86 and x64). It looks like your vc++ 2005 SP1 runtimes weren't correctly installed. You can obtain and install them manually from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displaylang=en if you run into it next time.

the game works only with the vc++ 2005 version which comes with et:qw. doesn't matter what OS your're using.
i don't know much about this catalyst stuff but i would try to install the "driver only" file.
is there any chance to install catalyst in custom mode and to exclude the vc++ 2005 blahblah?

I was getting tired of the crap on vista anyway, I'll wait till the next OS, I seem to jump every other OS anyway.. I'm a developer, I have Visual Studio 2005 installed, so I'm unsure why QW cant use the runtime.. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I'm pretty much done with this QW at this point.. After a week or so of playing this game, it's nothing more than another online shooter with a crap load of limitations.. I was hoping for a bit more out of id. Now all my eggs are in one basket, Crysis.. Hopefully they will bring more to the table.

My issue isnt what the error is, the issue is why it's being thrown for QW.. And if you look up, you will see I posted the error message link from MS..

I have to disagree with this statement.. For little over a week now, all the players are not working together. They are all going in different directions, so putting a death timer only makes it worst. Trying to force teamwork doesnt work unless their is an advantage or bonus for it. Too many kids playing that all they care about is running in and killing everyone, including their team. Put something in like squads or even allow ppl to get armor bonus if working close together. Then ppl will start going down this road, not death timers so we can sit on the sideline for 20 seconds because a teammate killed us.
