1. Well I gotta see if I can learn how to mod the game to have all the weapons at the beginning and the game

2. I like big outdoor maps only. So I would like to see a CTF mod if it is possable. So if the map tools for Quake Wars are easy maybe I can see about making some big outdoor maps like in Tribes 2.

I'm kinda sketching out some ideas on paper right now...I'm a huge fan of urban/close quarters combat so I got a bunch of ideas on layouts and so on...but it's kinda tough to design a map for a game you haven't played yet :p

regardless it should be a fun experience...I've done a few maps for ut2k4 and a fear map but never did any editing with quake/doom engines before so I'm looking forward to see how it compares

i created a map for ET a while back but never released it... i played with some of my friends for a quick test... but i just kind of gave up on it.. i think i'm going to revive that map idea.

i do love urban warfare so great to see some with those ideas.. but my map idea is more for fun and is based on an awesome canadian show :)

How does the mega-texture work with map making?I'm not a reference on this, but this is what I gathered from one of the "workshop" videos:
1. Create your terrain model. (This can be done completely in a moddelling program or by converting a set of good old brushes into a model.)
2. U/V wrap it, AKA "apply one virtual texture to the whole model". (A moddelling specific term, tutorials will explain this for sure.)
3. Import the model and run megagen to set initial parameters. (Eg. which texture should apear on slopes, what on flat terrain and what on high altitudes?)
4. Take the whole thing into the map editor.
5. Add "projectors". These things "project" a texture on the terrain.
6. Generate the MT. (So it is rendered to one big texture.)
7. Stamp extra decals onto it in-game.
8. If it's textured somewhat wrong, go back to step 5 or 6. If the terrain model is wrong, you will need to go back to step 1 and do most over again. So make your mind up first!

Once more: this is how I think it works. Don't blame anyone other than me if this is wrong.

ofcource i'm gonna make maps for ETQW!

i want to work as a levelartist so i'm going to do maps alot, althou i won't release them all, just the ones that are good enough.

I was creating maps for Jedi Knight Academy , but that's just not my thing. I love Programming ;)

I tried to Make Maps for Doom 3 and Quake 4, so for ETQW, I will naturally have to give it a go. Although, I will have to give it a better go than before. I wanna make a great map :D

Not gonna happen though. I lack imagination...

I'm hoping someone is going to make a racing map for vehicles, basically just a goofy map which will have numerous obstacle courses to try and get the driving skill improved, you could also do the same with a type of red bull air race style flying course, with rings you have to fly through and columns to weave around.

any takers? ;D

Yeah, I already have a map planned out, even some prefabs made. However I will probably need help for such a big project... Maybe I will find a mapping partner here. :)

You could easily start your map now. Just map in quake 4. Then you can import over buildings or whatever you make into ET.

Yeah def going to give it a blast, I have done a little bit of mapping on a few games and am looking forward to seeing what QW has to offer.

If the bulk of the community plays exclusively on the "ranked" servers (as is the case for BF2/2142), then its probably not worth the effort except for possibly mapping for a mod. There's just not a whole lot of point in making a map that no one is ever going to play :(

I tried using the bf2 editor...and I just thought it was plain trash...it was cumbersome...unstable and completely unintuitive...plus the little to no documentation didn't help either

They said the editor can import .map files, so I've got quite a bit of geometry worked out in the Doom 3 editor. Some rough geometry of buildings I'm working on for an Alactraz map; note little texture/lighting work done, or much detail... these are mockups.

Did you ever play that alcatraz mod for doom3 or map i think for the expansion. Was called last until light or something like that...maybe it was survive until morning...its was a damn cool alcatraz map in d3 engine.

Already begun....at least in so far as asset creation is concerned. Textures and prefab models all underway.
Until I get a feel for game play, movement, scale etc creating a 'real' map as such wont happen.

You've got some nice maps on your site there dONKEY. It will be interesting
to see the different styles on QWs from Q4, ET, BF and other mappers.
