Default electrical outlet question.

I live in North American of course, but I want to play an european exclusive pal PS1 game. I will buy a european PS1 or PS2 just to play that game, but the problem lies in the fact that my house delivers around 120 volts and the euro ps1 or ps2 needs around 240 volts.

Is there any adapter to plug a european machine into a north american house?

Also is it the TV or the console that designates if it is PAL or NTSC? If it is the TV, then there is no way to play PAL games in north america, and I will just screw my plan.

Have you tried playing pal games on a ntsc television set, and ntsc games on a pal television set? Is there any difference than when you play games on their respective tv sets?

Considering how my TV won't let my friend play NBA 2k9, which is a PAL version, there is a slim chance I will complete and play all YDKJ games from all regions. Oh well. I guess I will play the AMERICAN speaking copies.

if your tv's so low end it can't handle pal then don't waste money on a power-converter (or 1337-€uro tech either)

Bahhh don't make fun of our having to adjust the tint TVs.

My main question is, how do I play a PAL PS1 game in north america?

Need converter, PS1 from europe, and that is probably it. Will PAL games work on NTSC TVs?

You can get a transformer to convert 120 to 240 at United Unlimited on Dufferin

you should check the stats of your tv-set if it can display pal or not...

I have a HDTV with S-video, and um the red green blue thing etc. I think manufactured in 2003. Back in that year, is there a chance that my TV can accept both PAL and NTSC signals?

probably, but wouldn't bet on it, my bttv-pci card from early 2k renders NTSC and PAL very well on any monitor attached to my computers...
the jvc-s-vhs-recorder I had around the same time handled stuff like that also very well (till it got lost in chinese movie productions)

Does S-video and component cables not distinguish between NTSC and PAL? So if I use a component cable to plug a PAL ps2 into my TV, will it fix the image to how the image is supposed to be?

If I use S-video to connect a PAL ps1, 2, or 3, into a NTSC TV, will the image look distorted? As in Black and white, or perhaps no image at all?

You have several issues,
1. 110v60hz North American Current vs 240v50hz EU Current. i.e the converter must not only change voltage, but also frequency, otherwise the PS1 will not run properly.

2. S-Video or Component video or HDMI or RGB, etc are not related to PAL vs NTSC vs ATSC, etc. they are simply connectors. If your signal is PAL signal protocol and your tuner is NTSC protocol then regardless of the connector, the TV will not properly translate your signal into a picture - you'll need a newer monitor for that.

3. S-Video is a native 480i resolution. Playing at that resolution may not be as much fun as you imagine. Also, S-Vid has no sound, you will need a separate sound connector.

I have seen some converters that convert PAL signals into NTSC, do you know of any good ones? Do they even sell them in run of the mill electronics stores?

Also which costs more?

Getting a PAL exclusive Playstation game imported from europe, a PS1 or 2 imported from europe, a step up transformer, and a Pal to NTSC converter with the price of the euro and GBP being double the CDN dollar?

OR

A PS3 and a xbox 360 along with a copy of ETQW on 360 and on PS3, 2 subscriptions to xbox live, one copy on wolfenstein on the ps3, one copy of RTCW for PC and xbox, and 2 copies of Wolfenstein on PC and 360 totalling to 4 copies with the price of american dollars, and having the risk of getting my 2 PS3s and my one 360 smashed if I do happen to get a second set of the 7th gen consoles?

Is it better to do the import route just so if I go overseas, I can bring a PAL ps2 overseas to play PAL games there, so I don't have to worry about TV problems, but the problem here is getting a PAL ps2 to work on my NTSC TV, which I don't think has any PAL support, or when I do buy PAL games in australia (good thing I bought a PC game there, or else I would have been screwed), I could bring them back home, and use a PAL ps2 that I will buy in the future to play these PAL games?

I don't know which route to pick, but I have all the time in the world to decide. That is, until the guy from ebay takes down the listing for the game I want, then I'm screwed.
