Hi
I'm trying the ETQW demo on Ubuntu 9.10 Linux, and have an Nvidia 6600GT. I get < 1 FPS normally, but tried setting r_useFBODestinationBuffer to 0 as specified at http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/etqw/. This drastically improves the performance so that I can actually play the game, but after a short amount of time the performance will go back to as bad as it was before. Then if I check my ~/.etqwcl/base/etqwconfig.cfg file r_useFBODestinationBuffer is reset to 1. I've tried adding the command to an autoexec.cfg file but that doesn't help. Anyone know a fix for this? Cheers, Adam |

That cvar works for me in my autoexec.cfg.
If the autoexec.cfg is in the wrong dir it won't load and then it will just use defaults Just to make sure your doing the autoexec correctly. The autoexec goes in the player dir and not the base dir. So typically in linux it would be something like /home/<account>/.etqwcl/sdnet/<player>/base/autoexec.cfg you need to include most of the stuff in these two files in your autoexec.cfg /home/<account>/.etqwcl/base/etqwconfig.cfg /home/<account>/.etqwcl/base/etqwbinds.cfg then make the changes as needed in the autoexec.cfg I don't know if the file structure is exactly the same with the demo and the full game but i am assuming so. i used to use a 6600gt on an athlon 64 2800 when i first started the game, i got 15 to 30 fps without that set to 0. Do you have the nvidia driver installed and 3d enabled? I dont believe ubuntu defaults to having that installed. I use opensuse so i am not sure. Opensuse doesn't. You could try using Seta r_useFBODestinationBuffer 0 in your config. That should make it stay like that

I did have the autoexec.cfg file in the base dir, so I move it and added everything from the other files. It doesn't seem to have helped though. It's quite weird because the first time after I changed r_useFBODestinationBuffer to 0, I had a really drastic improvement, although now I'm thinking that may have been a coincidence. It seems to just be as bad as it always was now. Even showing the menu while playing, it takes a couple of seconds for the screen to update after moving the mouse.
Yes I have the latest 190.42 drivers installed. Other games like Urban Terror and BF2 via Wine work OK. My computer is about 5 years old now, I've got a P4 2.4GHz processor and 1.5G of RAM so maybe it's something else that's the problem other than my video card. I'm getting a new computer soon and also planning on switching to OpenSUSE or Fedora so I'll try the demo again later and see if that works. Thanks for the help. ![]() |
