Default Using Covert Op's toys effectively

Covert is my favorite class, so I'll share a few of my tricks and just general knowledge.

Strogg - Flyer Drone, Teleporter

Ah the Flyer Drone. One of the GDF's most hated things to see. Many ways to use this, but most simply try and find a spot to hide their body, and go fly it around looking for kills. A great spot for this on Sewer is the upper Strogg only entrance... look for a ladder on the wall within the Strogg base, go up and follow the path, you'll see a side shielded door to your left high up the wall. This spot can only be breached by a GDF Covert in disquise that takes a long time to traverse, so it's usually safe to camp in the upper tunnels.

Go prone when using the Flyer Drone. That way if it's destroyed you won't move forward when it switches you back to player mode.

Another good use of the Drone is in battle. Simply run around a corner from a pursuer, bust out the Drone and fly it back at him. Catches 99% of people by surprise.

The Teleporter is an under used piece of gold. Allowing you to reach areas others can't or unless they have an Icarus, you can find some mighty fine camping spots. Upon entering the inside part of Sewer, there is a ledge above the doorways... I love teleporting up there and camping any GDF entering the area... they never notice me til it's too late.

The Teleporter can also be used as a quick escape tool. Toss it near the hack objective, then run out and fight GDF...they about to kill you? Simply teleport to safety, get some Stroyent, and repeat.

Last but not least, flanking. In a gunfight with a GDF, shoot the beacon past them, teleport and then own them from behind.

GDF - 3rd Eye Camera

While most people love the Flyer Drone, I think the 3rd Eye Camera is much better. It has radar built into it, act's like a triggered grenade, and is very unobtrusive.

The radar can be used effectively since Strogg never notice the camera (throw it somewhere high) inside areas like Sewer, but it also can be used quite sneakily. If you managed to get into the Sewer and are about to hack, but Strogg are around... throw the 3rd Eye against the wall to the back, and then start hacking while watching the radar for nearby enemies. When they come for you, switch back to the 3rd eye and explode it... the only place Strogg can see you hacking is where the explosion will go off. Takes some time to perfect, but very effective when you get the hang of it.

Another sneaky way to use the camera is to simply throw it where you know Strogg will pass... and then wait til the opportune moment and destroy it with them in the blast radius. Spots like outside the shield they all run out of int he beggining, or those circular shielded tunnels that they mostly come into the sewer area from.

Other Notes:

Strogg Coverts can hack GDF base doors.
GDF Coverts in uniform can pass Strogg shield walls unharmed.
Mines are not triggered by a Covert in disquise.
Hacking deployable is mega-XP, like 4-7 per hack. Grab an Icarus and go behind enemy lines to gain some levels.
The ONLY way to tell for certain a Covert is in disquise is by their heavy breathing when they run alot. You show up on radar as friendly and look exactly like the enemy in every detail. In disquise make sure you let off sprint every now and then so your breathing doesn't give you away.

I'm starting to dislike this forum, giving away all the nifty tricks. I thought i was the only one to use the teleporter in game, haha, best kept secret in the demo imho.

Nice tips. Since the beta is brand new a lot of people haven't gotten used to the flying drones. I used it in the sewers once and I literally had 2 guys just stare at it for a few seconds as I flew it in between them......

Gotten many promotions killing with the Strogg drone. That and the technician are my favorite classes. Very cool converting a human body into a Stroog spawn.

Is the Smoke Grenade still in the game ?! I can't find anyone mentioning it. No smoke grenades in screenshots, videos. Nowhere.

Another way to use the 3rd eye camera is to drop it close to a "destroy" objective (like the sewer grates) when a soldier arms a charge there. Then fall back. If the Strogg manage to reach the charge and their Constructors try to disarm it, detonate the 3rd eye camera. Boom!

And yes, Coverts do have smoke grenades.

ROFL! So THIS is why I got blasted last night when I was amongst the GDF ranks. I don't know why, but the thought of getting discovered because I'm panting like a warthog is pretty damn funny.

also could happen when you were acting suspicous

today nailed about 2 or 3 coverts in disguise while I was Constructor... first was disguised as technician.. I kept using V say : Need Stroyent but he wouldnt give and he kept switching between spikes and lacerator but nothing else(which are btw the only things a Disguised covert can keep in hand while under disguise)

then shot him once and he still wouldnt gimme... so I shot him again when he was running away saw a red circle indicating that I was indeed shooting an enemy then followed the green indicator on top of his until he came back then shot his ass

second time was guy staying right behand a tech's back and spotted him while he was trying to knife the tech... didnt work though but in the firefight I shot both him and the tech

Also I think you can also spot disguised people by their walk... at least I read somewhere once that Strogg and GDF both WALK differently including when disguised... so if you carefully monitor real teammates walks and suspicious guys you might notice it then kill him!

It might be useful if you drop it ontop of a teammates mine, however yes it is pretty useless as you can see through it quite well or just jump through in a second or two.

ET smoke was downright nasty, throwing one into the guns on oasis when they had an armed plant and watching axis engineers panic over where the plant was was quite entertaining. Be interesting to see if smoke and some of the other features become even more useful when some of the other maps appear.

smoke grenade is worthless in this game for one reason... the big red triangles over the enemies head... doesnt matter how thick or big you make it... if you can still see triangles you know where to shoot

Another way to tell an infiltrator is that their icon in the minimap doesn't rotate. I'm pretty sure it's a bug, but nonetheless it works.
