Default Fire support, best way to get XP?

Dispensing ammo doesn't give you XP to make it worthwhile - due the fact that Strogg can't?

How many people has to die for 5xp points in Fire Support?

By far the best way to get Field Op's/ Oppressor XP is to use the airstrikes... not Hammers, Dark Matter, etc... just the regular airstrikes. Try to throw them not only to hit players, but deployables and vehicles in the area also. You seem to get XP based on damage dealt to things like turrets, so even if nobody is in the area, it's a good idea to airstrike those 3 turrets around the objective.

Hammers/etc can give good XP also, but take a long time to reload in comparison to regular airstrikes. The bad part about them is any smart enemy is going to look up into the sky and guess where it's going to hit... and then get inside or away from the area.

It only seems to give you 1XP per 2-4 ammo packs picked up, so that isn't a great way to gain XP, but since it's independant of airstrike charge, you might as well spam them around your spawn.

Hammers are way overrated. The primary artillery (rail howitzer etc.) is great, and the secondary has laser guiding (just hold down where you want the shells to hit, and they will hit there)

yup.. use the artiellery/rail howitzer for clearing an area of enemy infantry, deployables and vehicles. And use the missiles/mortar to take out specific targets.. like titans, cyclops or annoying turrets. I play as an engineer and i almost always deploy the anti-thingie which, imo, is always needed, so try to air strike that first (if they have one) or hope that your cov ops/infil buddies are team players and go disable them and not just sit 2 steps from the base with a sniper..

if you time right a hammer/dark matter can blow up a whole spawn wave

That being said, i agree it aint the better air support.

I've found quite balanced way to gather it, darkmatter gun would need it to hit everytime to fullwave to be as effective.

I mostly used the missiles/mortor artillary, i found this usefull for the team as well as getting xp, takes a whole 2 seconds to lock on and kills vehicals and turrets fast.

Aye I find em the best for helping the team, cyclops and other vehicles go down fast and can clear a turret supressing the infantry

Regarding the Airstrike marker, is there anyway to dictate which direction the strike will come in? I throw the smoke grenade, and the line seems to come up almost randomly (Frustratingly, There was a Cyclops and Devestator all lined up, and the bombing run came in the other way ) only killing one :S

It is perpendicular to you.

The Oppressor throws the violator beacon at the ground right infront of him.

I love strogg arty.

plasma mortar for the gdf coming up to the base, or the rail arty to spawn rape the forward spawn before the EMP, and the big huge mutha when you start to work out spawn timer and can blast an entire wave in one hit. Took out about 6 people with the rail arty, finished off 2 more with the lacerator.

I'm not quite certain about the missile arty though.

Thus far I have on strogg:
Rail Arty - You lock on a target, and 10 shells goe there, in a slightly randomised pattern around the area. I have seen it have 2 lock on spots though, maybe you can do 2 areas or something.
Missile Arty - You lock on, then iirc 6 or 8 missiles go in the area in a lower trajectory. I'm not exactly certain when, but the missiles will retarget based on where you shoot. They will also lock onto a vehicle or deployable.
Big Honking Space Gun - 1 shot. HUGE radius. Will wipe out anyone who gets near it. Takes long to reload.

Next time I play GDF I'll check out their stuff, I think it's similar.

Does the big honking space gun get intercepted by the anti-arty?

Hammer is the GDF big honking space gun. (I've not actually done this in-game, but I'm sure it's the same as the Strog BHSG.

It's a huge missile.

You need to go the "Field Ops" Class. Stay inside your base.

Choose the "Deploy Tool".

Choose the "Hammer" (it's the big patriot missile looking thing), should be the choice on the right.

You will go into 3rd person view, and walk and look around inside your base, the hammer will show as a "wireframe". On the ground, there will be either red or green squares. You need 4 green squares, and not on top of another buildable.

Click, and wait.

Choose the "Targetting Tool" and point it where you want the missile to go. Do not move it or you will have to wait more. Once it locks on the missile will fire.

Wait for the reload and start from the "Targeting Tool" bit again.

This is the same for the other artillery.

ok thanks, but I have another question: I saw people with deployadble such as anti vehicle, or the anti artilery of the strogg. My question is how people get those things?

Those are engineer deployables...have three, anti-infantry, anti-vehicle, anti-artillery.

Covert ops have the other 2 iirc, radar and something else I think.

Okay, last night I played GDF and used the Hammer.

It's good for taking out the Strogg deployables.

I will also say that the reload time is so long, that you should not be holed up somewhere like I was, but you should spawn at the front. Locking onto an objective is pretty quick so if you can hit it from a forward bunker then you should.

If you can't and it needs to be taken out, take a vehicle, drive to a point you can see, fire and drive off again.

I also used the GDF artillery, I don't think it's as good as the Strogg Rail Artillery.
