Default The selfish medic

I've been enjoying playing this game and especially the medic/technician role. When doing so I'm quite selfish when it come to healing myself. Now here's the way I figure it:
- If I run out of life and die, I can't heal anyone
- If I can't heal anyone, teammates die faster
- If I'm dead, I can't revive

Based on those factors I feel doing what I need to stay alive is paramount. I stay in the action and can help.

Some would argue that is quite selfish, and I agree. However it's selfish for the betterment of the team.

How do you other techs/medics play/think?

techs are the selfish problem, GDF medic or field opt can't own alone because he needs the second thing, this is what takes out the selfishness of everybody.
the strogg techs don't heal because they will be easily killed, they have both ammo and health so they are the best way to be rambos.
one day i called a vote to kick out a rambotech because he didn't heal and never gave stroy, well i even shot gim and yelled "GIEF SUM STORY BIOTCH" he tk-d me.... so i called teh vote and luckily he got kicked....

In regards to rez'ing Techs have to be selfish due to the nature of their slow pickup. Unlike their GDF counter parts that can flash rez, a Tech HAS to kill first before attempting the pickup. Stroy spamming though shouldn't be an issue since it always benefits the Tech themselves and their team to spam stroyent on the floor.

In the case of who those Med Packs/Stroy Cells go to, in my opinion as a Tech you should stroyDown to maintain your HP and allow the team to pick up Stroy Cells where as GDF Meds have to feed themselves and TK/Rev + 1 pack when ever possible.

TBH as the GDF medic I'll lay a ton of packs and people nearly dead just run right by them. I don't think they are visible enough though I bet they are plenty visible in the snow but not on the sewer. Especially in the water.

Additionally I'll try to heal them with packs but they just run off. Getting to where I use the packs for myself and the defibs for everyone else.

seems like any time I tk/rev+1, the guy I tk/rev files a complaint so I stopped doing it after getting kicked for too many complaints one night. I thought it was obvious what I was doing, apparently they didn't like being tk'd regardless if I rev'd them w/more health than they had before or not.

As a medic / technician you can spot enemies in disguise: if their health bar isn't full but they don't pick up medpacks / stroyent that you drop. Happened tonight when a gdf snuck in the control room. I figured it out just before he dropped his disguise and I was able to make him into a spawn host.

I guess this tactic will catch on eventually... if you see a medic defribbing you to death just let him kill you. However, one time I was hacking the sewer controls and a medic started TK'ing me from behind, I thought it was an enemy covey so I started running away until I noticed he was holding the rez pads, but it created a weird situation where I was even lower on health, and not hacking the controls for a few seconds... The moral of the story, this tactic isn't always appropriate... Could be helpful to program a keybind to team_say "I'm TK/rezzing you!" if it's a tactic that you use a lot.

I think we will get a mod where you will be able to use pads to restore health as with revive for severely wounded people, instead of having to kill them first.

I think this is deliberate. This is probably SD's way of taking stance on TK/revive. This is similar to the 'respawn' button - it's a way of saying that /kill is ok.

But TK/revive is much better than doing nothing, because most of the time you have no med packs to throw. And respawn should be an option to choose, like waiting for a medic is.

b0rsuk, I disagree with you. TK/revive has been a part of the game since RTCW:ET. The devs would not take a stance against that part of the community that is transfering to this game.

What is the point of TK/revive? I've never heard of it.

Curly: What TK/revive means is that the medic TK's you, and then revives you.

This is a common strategy that is used by many of the best medics. It is used because many of the times, the medics are out of med packs, and since the TK/revive brings the person back to 50% health, they do that. It normally doesn't take longer than a second or two, and better equips the person being TK/revived for battle.

Where exactly did I say the devs are against TK/revive ? Problems with reading comprehension ? Hmm ?

You were not necessarily clear on your post. You make it sound as if the devs are against it, if that is not the case then i apologize, and I would agree with you. If that is the case then I will disagree.

-The Glavin

oh and by the way, flaming is NOT the answer :P

Perhaps I made too many shortcuts in that post. My reasoning was like this:

in W:ET, you have to switch to another weapon to TK and then to syringe to revive. In ET:QW, defibrilators deal damage to standing players. If they made defibs deal damage, it must be because they wanted TK/revive to be a little more convenient to perform.

The point about respawn button was that it makes /kill accessible even to people with console-o-phobia (a.k.a. windows users). They wouldn't make /kill more accessible if they were against it.

* 'to take stance on sth' means to, essentially, vote for or against it.

Exactly. I see where you come from and I agree with you.

However, the means that you go about attacking people I do not, I think people in this forums are old enough to be past the bullying tactics.

Some may try to stay alive but many just stay alive to keep fighting and don't actually help the team, all they want is kills.

I never see medics at all anymore in beta2, the problem with the strogg medic is that it's ammo at the same time. Instead of saving the stroyent for the wounded anyone just picks it up who fired one shot.
Outcome: no stroyent left and all die ^^

I miss the bug in W:ET where disguised enemy's health bars would bug out when you look at them and appear empty for a fraction of a second and then fill up to full. Made things much simpler.

Dont assume every player you TK/REV actually knows what you are up too, especially those from BF...they assume your statpadding and just padding your revive stats.

I am still at the stage where I dont complain about ANY TK's, as I have made some silly mistakes and have been forgiven (except once - noob ), so I wouldnt of complained...but would of considered the medic to be a statpadder.

Hehe, it aint ETPro, remember it is the public crowd in the beta, in ETPro you got more skilled players who actually bless you for a tk/ ress.
People running past stroycells are because they really dont see that their healt is low. Call them nubs or whatever, I will call them beginners, if that made any sense

im the same, unfourtunately everyone wants to go covert ops or field ops on australian servers, because of the arty, or sniper rifle. So im usually the only medic, as everyone respawns too fast to revive and get xp...
I personally think there needs to be class limits of field ops, as 5 at a time can be ridiculous, and a limit to snipers... like some et servers had...
